Around Azeroth: I love a parade

The unofficial rainbow realm of Proudmoore held a Pride celebration on Saturday, and according to Riege of <The Tainted Ones>, the event went off without a hitch. "The after party at Booty Bay was the perfect end to a day of just enjoying the game," Riege wrote. "Alliance and Horde, gay and straight, ogre or human or gnome...it didn't matter. We were just a bunch of people who were having fun. How often does that happen?" But Riege, where are the feral druids? Everyone knows you can't have a good pride parade without bears. *rimshot*
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, gold seller ads, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran.

It's either the Sylin' Jungle Hat (http://thottbot.com/i25682) or the Battered Jungle Hat (http://thottbot.com/i45998).

LOL Love this so much. It is really cool that the LGBT community got a shout out on the site, considering how many players are from the community. Happy Pride guys.

"We were just a bunch of people who were having fun. How often does that happen?"
I think that's a rather sad statement. I see to have fun most of the time in game.
Is the whole Gay Pride thing an American deal? We don't seem to get it much here in europe. I can't say I really understand it.
Mariku Jun 22nd 2009 10:23AM
There are gay prides all over Europe! Just unfortunately not in Azeroth EU as far as I know :(

I can't speak for other countries, but here in America, there's been a long standing prejudice towards the gay community, especially during the 80's. So it's nice for the gay community (I'm not quite sure what the p.c. word would be for it) to get together and promote understanding and toleration. It really boils down to a celebration of American ideals.
All in all it's a very positive event and as a heterosexual, I approve greatly. Though, it's hard to disapprove of anti-discrimination events, though I suppose some people find a way.

Pride events started here in New York City, the birthplace of the modern LGBT rights movement. On June 28, 1969, police raided a gay bar called the Stonewall Inn (back then, police harassment of gay establishments was sadly the norm), but the patrons fought back in what would come to be called the Stonewall Riots. On the first anniversary of the rebellion, LGBT groups in New York held Gay Liberation Day, and had a march to commemorate the occasion. This was also done in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and a couple of other American cities. Today, Pride parades have largely become giant parties and celebrations of our community, but there is still a political element to them, especially now that we're knee deep in the fight for marriage equality.
There are Pride events all over the world (one of the biggest anywhere is the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney), and it is just as huge in Europe as it is in America, but more so in the west. Acceptance of LGBT people is more widespread in Western European society, which is probably why people don't make as big a deal about these events over there. It's just another big party. But there are still places where Pride can't even happen, which is why it's still so important IMO.

"I think that's a rather sad statement. I see to have fun most of the time in game."
I think you're reading a needlessly sad meaning into it. I have fun most of the time I'm playing or I wouldn't be playing, but there's a difference between the fun of a good heroic and the fun of a social event which corresponds to a real-world social event.
"Is the whole Gay Pride thing an American deal? We don't seem to get it much here in europe. I can't say I really understand it."
Europe has gay pride events. I mean, "Europe" is obviously a big place, so trying to speak for the whole of it would be stupid, but I can say from experience that Nantes, a small-or-medium-sized French city, had a pride parade in 2001. It happens.

unfortuneate use of the word rimshot.....
Extremitus Jun 22nd 2009 10:38AM
I thought it was pun-tastic! Hope Elizabeth did it intentionally. Unlike a friend of mine who recently wrote a review for Bejewelled 2 and abbreviated it to "BJ" unwittingly. This led to such gems as "otherwise authentic BJ experience", "you can’t say fairer than a free bit of BJ action" and "reinforce that warm fuzzy BJ feeling when you score high points"
Beartaku Jun 22nd 2009 10:27AM
We did have a Bear "float" in the parade!!! A bunch of us feral druids as well as people riding bear mounts and who had bear pets. :)

I want to thank the Spreading Taint for throwing an awesome party! The dual-faction Path-of-Frost disco party ON Booty Bay harbor was definitely the highlight for me. As a temporary reroll, I had nothing fun to bring, but kindly Tainters helped us out with tabards for the temporary guild, focusing lenses, fireworks, ogre costumes, and deviate delight.
As seen above, costuming at the after party was just great. (Belf male in nothing but a Brawler's Harness? Startlingly appropos.) I also liked the orc DK who'd managed to carefully assemble an entire set of pink/purple-colored leather gear.

WOW..... that is just.......... beautiful...... i mite cry........
errors like that are what make life worth living.
"reinforce that warm fuzzy BJ feeling when you score high points" may well be the funnyest thing ive read scince the historic timeline of scientology
