TurpsterVision: FigurePrints review

We can't believe it either – Turpster has been let loose on WoW.com to bring you videos from in and around the World of Warcraft! You've heard him on The WoW Insider Show now see him on TurpsterVision right here on WoW.com
This past week I undertook an epic unveiling of not so epic proportions in opening up my very own FigurePrint. Fortunately for you, the lucky viewer, I've captured this live on video -- a first encounter of the most awesome kind -- which can be found below the break!
The first thing that struck me upon opening the package was the weight of it all; the dome is real glass and is a fantastic way to display your character, keeping them free from dust and many other household evils that lurk outside of Azeroth. The reason I would want to go for a FigurePrint would be to immortalize my character, preserving the culmination of four and a half years hard gaming, and this extra layer of protection allows that to happen. It does however present a barrier, much like we have when playing the game, where we can't touch our character (This statement takes on a whole different meaning with some of Night Elf female mailbox dancers out there) but obviously it serves the purpose of protecting the FigurePrint so I guess I can let it slide.
Click on past the break to catch the video and check out the gallery getting up close and personal with FigurePrints!
The vibrancy of the colors had been an issue which some of the early FigurePrint lottery winners felt their FigurePrint hadn't lived up to their expectations. At Blizzcon '08 we spoke with Ed Fries who commented on their customer satisfaction and I can say that I am blown away with the overall quality of the product, but if you don't believe me, check out the gallery to see for yourself!
I will say that I am not a huge fan of the font used for the name on FigurePrints. It's been a long time since I have used the default fonts in WoW but I am pretty sure that there could be some better options than a sans serif (the font type not Eva Mendes from The Spirit - though I would totally be cool with a FigurePrint of her) bright yellow block of text, but maybe that is just me.
The FigurePrint was easy to create (see the gallery for some of the screenshots from the creation process) and if this little video has sparked your interest then I have just the thing for you. Now don't say I don't give anything back, 'cause The T has gone one step beyond and now you can all get 5% off of the cost of your FigurePrint with a very, very secret code. Do you have your pen and paper ready? I'll only say it once, ok, here it goes:
For 5% off of a FigurePrint of your very own use the discount code: TURPSTER
I'll be taking advantage of the 'TURPSTER' code and have already started farming MC for the Warrior Tier 1 'Battlegear of Might' set – the best looking set on Gnome Warriors across the whole of Azeroth. For those of you out there who have FigurePrints or are thinking of getting one, what's your character wearing?
As I said in the video, stay tuned into the site for the 24th of June as we've got some great news to pass on to you guys, but that's all I am allowed to say, you'll have to keep checking out WoW.com for more information.

I laughed so hard at the spinning-around-in-a-microwave part.
Love you Turpster, good to see you on WoW.com, besides just the podcast!

Great job turbster! I absolutely enjoyed your presentation - and did recognise the morbid knife joke ;p
Keep on rocking!

My goodness, your sense of humor sucks but you are cute!!!
Okay the figureprints, I looked into them and studied the models but it turns out I hate all the new gear in looks and I will be farming an old set from vanilla for my character and then have a figureprint. A cool old T2 perhaps, reminding me of the old days.

I had one done when it was the lottery. My NE priest is wearing Robes of the Guardian Saints, Benediction, Bracers of Royal Redemption and the Hallowed Crown. lol I have her casting a spell. I don't play her anymore, but it reminds me of all the fun I had in Pre- BC.

Hooray for TurpsterVision!
peagle Jun 22nd 2009 5:55PM
I've always thought if you got one of these you'd be frustrated by the fact you're always pushing for newer and better upgraded gear in-game, whilst your model would remain stuck in time.

How long do these beasties take to make, from ordering to recieving? I'd like to get my dad one for his birthday in 5 months.
Alchemistmerlin Jun 22nd 2009 6:01PM
I don't really get the point of farming a Matched Set to get a figureprint of. That's not really your character, it's just a model wearing the set. Your character is the wierdo in the clownshoes and random bits of gear that he gathered that makes him look different, and not just another clone in the crowd.
I wish tauren could have mohawks...

Turpster is like a young Ricky Gervais lol

Just had look at this, but why are we in the EU being ripped off again? $130 + shipping for US, $180 + shipping for EU (at todays exchange rates). Shipped from same place so why the price diffrence? its a shame i like look of these bad boys
conker87 Jun 22nd 2009 6:12PM
Turpster pretty awesome. Very nicely done video.
Vegatork Jun 22nd 2009 6:05PM
I was on the fence about buying one of these. But this vid helped convince me. And it had nothing to do with the host ;-)
I absolutely love the new 'lock T8.5 gear. So I just put in my order. And thanks for the 5% discount, Turpster!
Bendy Walker Jun 22nd 2009 6:19PM
Lol! Turpster's a funny guy. :P
Vajarra Jun 22nd 2009 6:19PM
Peagle: That is why I dressed mine in armor I picked for looks, not my most current gear :)
I love my FigurePrint, I keep it on my desk at work. I just wish I had room for more of them.
kdeselms Jun 22nd 2009 6:21PM
Have a hard time justifying the cost...they're cool, but not THAT cool.
Amethyst Jun 22nd 2009 6:31PM
' keeping them free from dust..'
You wouldn't think they'd been kept free from dust judging from the finish on all the previous ones I've seen, they look awful. In fact, the Tauren one is the first one I've ever seen that doesn't look horrible, have they changed the printing methods or were you just very lucky? :P
FifthDream Jun 22nd 2009 6:33PM
Hey, it's Turpster! Awesome.
Kendall213 Jun 22nd 2009 6:33PM
I'm really excited to see Turpster on wow.com!!!!
I've been a huge fan of his every since I first heard him on wow radio 2-3 years ago.

I love mine. I was 78 when I ordered it, wearing a mish-mash of gear, and had disenchanted all my Tier gear, so I went back and made an entire Spellfire Set. It was colorful and looks great, and even though my weapon is about level 75, I'm glad I did it. The statue reminds me of starting Kara.
