Henry Cavill plays WoW -- Ryan Reynolds doesn't
I was reading my print copy of Entertainment Weekly today, which features their Summer Must List. They listed their Must Dashing Duke as Henry Cavill from The Tudors. Cavill says that World of Warcraft is on his Must List: "It's fairly addictive." In an interview with JustJared.com earlier this year, Cavill said that he also plays Eve Online. As a geekgirl, I say yay to more gamer hunks. In the same issue of EW, their cover boy, Ryan Reynolds discussed his Must List. It included Intervention and Jon & Kate Plus Eight. When asked about his Must Videogame, he said "I don't really play videogames. Is there a way to waste more f-ing time?"
I'll field that question, Ryan. Yes, yes there is. Those reality shows that you have spent so much time watching? Yeah, excellent candidates for bigger wastes of time. I watch reality TV, too, but I think that interactive gaming is a much better expenditure of my leisure time. Of course, I'm a bit biased, but I think that if people compared their hours spent watching TV to the hours that gamers spend playing, the numbers would be similar.
Now I have to decide: desecrate some flames? Or watch The Deadliest Catch? Regardless of my decision, it won't be watching Van Wilder, but that has nothing to do with Mr. Reynolds' view of gaming.

Well my wife gets mad at me because everytime she puts John and Kate plus 8 on I turn on the computer and play WoW.
Can someone please explain that to me? The main source of arugements in my house involve me playing wow and not watching TV with her...go figure.

I believe its her impossibly asymetrical haircut: viewers are waiting for the day someone finally comes up to her and slaps her for that atrocity.
zappo Jun 23rd 2009 3:56PM
Well do you NOT watch TV at all? I'm guessing you do, so you want to play WoW when things on TV do not interest you. Watching TV together actually is an activity strangely enough, but perhaps she should think about watching something you both might enjoy. I mean seriously, what guy wants to watch J/K + 8?

@JOhn the Diver
Dude, that is horrible! I do not envy you at all.
"Wahhh, Wahhhh, why don't you watch John and Kate with me!! Why are you playing that stupid game!"
p.s. (an aside to those of you who may be partner-less and/or virginal) Sometimes, it's really not worth it -- you're not missing much besides a few headaches.
Sincerely,

@Johnthediver
Laptop ftw.
When I get the "whine" to watch tv with her I open some wine fill her glass and open the laptop and play. Same room = spending time. Yea, at first she tried to say that it wasn't the same, but ... it is and she is now ok with it.

He's probably just grumpy because the cover made him look dumber than a box of nails. Come on, that expression totally screams "which end do I put this in again?"
Agerath Jun 23rd 2009 3:23PM
Who the fuck is Henry Cavill, and why should I care what games he plays?
Braundo Jun 23rd 2009 4:25PM
Pretty much this.
"OH WOW THIS CELEBRITY PLAYS/DOESN'T PLAY THIS GAME THAT I PLAY! AMAZING!!!!!!!"
Who cares?
Grubba Jun 23rd 2009 5:59PM
Who cares about any of it?
"O noes, I must be offended because someone doesn't want to spend time the same way I do!" NERD RAGE

@Grubba: here in the world of adults, we are able to articulate our opinions on current events without losing control of our emotions.
I am sorry that you have not yet mastered this skill and, moreover, project your own emotional inadequacies onto others.
TL;DR: Just because I don't agree with you or because my post is scathing doesn't mean I'm 'totally ragin' irl.

a lil off the subject but.....i bullride, hike, almost 2yr old son, and my fair share of bills and responsabilities and i still find time to play WOW almost every night....just because you play games regularly(every day, evening, night, morning,or wenever you have time doesnt mean you dont have a life. i play wow a pretty good bit...and as a newer player (lvl 27 bieng my only toon atm with 200 in both skills and have massed a gold sum of over 300g) that has only played for about a month i think that gaming isnt a "waste" of time its more along the lines of a hole between real lifes delimas.......nothing says "take a load off" like sitting in a chair and just havin a good time with good people.

Based on your lack of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, I am starting to wonder why you were allowed to procreate? Honestly, I have seen 12 year olds on Thottbott leave better comments than that.
Antistes Jun 23rd 2009 4:23PM
I smiled when I saw swampsquatch's comment. Spot on, but harshly expressed.
Chevysdad07:
It is very hard to comprehend what you are trying to say when you write like that.
End sentences with a period, nothing else.
Don't let you brackets get out of control (starts with X amounts, ends with X).
and please look over your writing once or twice before you post. people will respect your opinion more if you do.

Antistes' comment definitely > swamsquatch's, but I don't get this. Every day 20 to 50 comments go up on this blog that are less readable than chevysdad07's. It's incredibly easy to tell what he's trying to say. I'm just about as much of a spelling and grammer geek as anyone, but if you can't turn that off (or at least way down), it's probably best to avoid all comment threads everywhere, except maybe on grammar-themed blogs.

real life is just as much of a time waster in my book.....ever stood in a line for an hour at walmart?
oldwisemonk Jun 23rd 2009 4:36PM
Good freaking point! People plan vacations around waiting in line! Disneyland? Six Flags?
I give you over 9000 thumbs up.
paragorillabear Jun 23rd 2009 10:09PM
I'll see your 9000 Thumbs and raise you 2K more!
RL in our modern era can have a real tendency to BLOW -- is why we are drawn to such vicarious thrills as WoW to begin with -- an escape from the monotony of TechnoBoredom by engaging in more refined TechnoBoredom.

I'll give Ryan Reynolds a pass. After all, he's engaged to Scarlett Johannson. His hands are f..., um... he's busy.

Reality TV is a huge waste of time. it isn't even reality. People are playing to the cameras they know are there. If you want reality, throw up cameras in a public place (legal) and don't let the people know they're on TV. Survivor isn't real, they know if they seriously injure themselves they'll get airlifted to a hospital. If you want real, take some death-row inmates, throw them on an island rigged with hidden cameras and leave them there, no support, no airlifting to the hospital when they break a leg or get a fatal disease. Any survivors after 6 weeks/months get their sentence reduced to life, a single survivor gets pardoned. Put that on pay-per-view, there won't be survivors, they'll kill each other off and the last guy will die of infection or starvation. That's the harsh reality of surviving in the wilderness with a bunch of murderers.
Tumleren Jun 23rd 2009 3:36PM
I'd totally watch that
