Henry Cavill plays WoW -- Ryan Reynolds doesn't
I was reading my print copy of Entertainment Weekly today, which features their Summer Must List. They listed their Must Dashing Duke as Henry Cavill from The Tudors. Cavill says that World of Warcraft is on his Must List: "It's fairly addictive." In an interview with JustJared.com earlier this year, Cavill said that he also plays Eve Online. As a geekgirl, I say yay to more gamer hunks.In the same issue of EW, their cover boy, Ryan Reynolds discussed his Must List. It included Intervention and Jon & Kate Plus Eight. When asked about his Must Videogame, he said "I don't really play videogames. Is there a way to waste more f-ing time?"
I'll field that question, Ryan. Yes, yes there is. Those reality shows that you have spent so much time watching? Yeah, excellent candidates for bigger wastes of time. I watch reality TV, too, but I think that interactive gaming is a much better expenditure of my leisure time. Of course, I'm a bit biased, but I think that if people compared their hours spent watching TV to the hours that gamers spend playing, the numbers would be similar.
Now I have to decide: desecrate some flames? Or watch The Deadliest Catch? Regardless of my decision, it won't be watching Van Wilder, but that has nothing to do with Mr. Reynolds' view of gaming.

"That's the harsh reality of surviving in the wilderness with a bunch of murderers."
This deserves an award.

If that's not an overdone movie premise, I don't know what is. No arguments about Reality TV though.

I was reading the article and all the while wondering... why is he wearing arm floaties?

I recently interviewed Ryan Reynolds for my column,
I told him his new movie, The Proposal, is kind of terrible (it's ridiculously bad).
Things immediately got super-awkward, his retort, "That's your opinion."
Ugh.
Wicked collar-tug.
This guy is a douchebag.
wfmorrow Jun 24th 2009 2:45AM
that's your opinion.

ya i get that sense too toasty, i think he was probably on okay guy when he was on two guys. Unfortunately he got a big head from working out and taking his shirt off on camera.
Bill Jun 23rd 2009 4:28PM
You told him his movie was terrible and then got mad at him for the fact that things got awkward?
Toasty Jun 23rd 2009 5:19PM
Clearly you haven't seen this film.
It's reprehensible.

#1 film this weekend and Sandy's top opener so far. Not that it means a movie is great. But it does gently tug at your virtual ethos.
Aside from that, I do agree with you that often actors are open to criticism when it's criticism. I wasn't there, but even from your words, it didn't sound like it was criticism or an opening for a criticism. It sounded more like, "I don't like this movie. I shouldn't even be talking to you. Tag."
RR might be a douchebag. I don't know. I haven't met him. Most other interviews with him seem to imply the opposite. Hence my devil's advocate approach here. You might be completely right and the interview might have been far worse than you have let on, but all things considered, you are displaying your opinion as fact with a "because I said so" argument at best.
Bill Jun 23rd 2009 5:57PM
Ask him in 3-5 years, and he'll probably agree that it was terrible. But I don't think there's ever been an actor who had any public criticism for a film s/he was in while it was still out there making him/her money. And to do so would be to fail at a big part of his/her job.
Anyway, I don't know anything about RR, other than that I really like how he comes across in movies (don't plan on ever seeing that one, though). But in your description of that encounter, one person does come off sounding like a d-bag, but it's not him...

@OWM
The reviews are mixed at best.

Most professional critics are paid to talk about movies. Listen to people that aren't. 2527 Yahoo users give it an average A- right now.
But I'll throw the critics a bone. They give it a C+, which is pretty decent for a comedy (especially while The Hangover is fresh in our minds and might be ruining other comedies for a while). If C+ is "reprehensible" and "terrible" I'm curious to know what words describe D's and F's.

@OWM
Yeah, but I have to take user comments with a grain of salt as well, since the majority are the retards responsible for the popularity of crap like High School Musical, Twilight, Dancing With the Stars, and the aforementioned Jon and Kate + Uncomfortable Silences.
At least the critics will give (usually) sound reasons for their opinions, as opposed to a movie being "sweet" or "ghey".
telltalehart Jun 23rd 2009 3:47PM
To answer your question Robin, watch Deadliest Catch and desecrate flames during commercials. It's what I plan on doing.

I can think of a bigger waste of time than videogames - paying attention to and caring about what celebrities think.

I just reactivated my EvE accounts, and I'm sad that I ever stopped playing. I see why he plays both. I still do, WoW is campy and cartoonish fun. While EvE is for the serious gamer who likes to think and has the patience for things to progress.
