WoW Moviewatch: Dead Memories - Ulduar
Dead Memories - Ulduar was created by Endac to display Ulduar to those who have not seen it, or maybe to show off his guild's skills in dominating the raid instance. He created his video with a twist, however. Dead Memories - Ulduar is shot through the perspective of a single visitor, who's plagued by nightmares and dreams about the place.
Endac says he doesn't think his video is "super fancy," but I actually think that's fine. His movie is straddling a line between machinima techniques and raid video techniques. I like the sense of wonder and (sometimes) horror his main character emotes to the audience, even while navigating through the terrific battles inside Ulduar.
The music choices make sense to me, even if they aren't necessarily my favorite bands ever. Your mileage will vary, of course, but I think Ulduar deserves a metal soundtrack. If you're particularly opposed to metal, you might find the soundtrack distracting.
Ultimately, I think Endac's video is pretty neat. I'd encourage him to take his storytelling to the next level, though, as he and his guild explore new content.

Who knew that Uldaur was a 3 Bedroom 2 bath in Maryland? Nice fireplace.

All you have to do is pay $250,000 to watch the video how it was MEANT to be watched!

Mmmm.... Slipknot. Open request to the machinima community: more, please. Maybe something for "Scissors" or "Gently", yes?
Corey Taylor = best voice in the music industry

That's slipknot now?! wtf happened ><
the video is pretty good, i enjoyed it. With so much focus on insanity and dead memories and whatnot i expected to see more of the yogg enounter, but maybe he's not showing so much of it as to not spoil it? or maybe for dramatic purpose? (or maybe cuz his guild hasn't downed him yet =P)

They went with less screaming and way shows off his absolutely outstanding vocal talents.

Yeah, and can't really be considered 'metal' as the write-up implies. Slipknot was nu-metal at best a few years ago, now its not even close.

Agreed, it'd be nice if he'd save the commercial stuff for Stone Sour but overall it's still good shit with the exception of a few songs on the latest two (non-live) albums.

I have a very newbie type question. How do you make a machinima? I take it its not just filmed live in game because it would be very annoying to have random mobs attacking you in the middle of a scene. Do you need to download an different copy of the game where you can control the environment?

There's multiple ways to get your "scenes" from WoW. Some people use a Model Viewer, some use live WoW servers with the assistance of people in that area, and others use the more controversial private server method. The one with the most freedom and ability to control every aspect of it is the private server. But you'll have to research that on your own :P

Wow! That is an epic video, very cool. My only complaint is too much crying from the main character. But what a great movie anyhow!
SINisterWyvern Jun 23rd 2009 1:23PM
Honestly I usually don't watch these, but I might have to more often. Epic video combined with the best music to Raid to (metal).
Naix Jun 23rd 2009 1:53PM
Yawn.
Let's go down the list of what makes a bad video.
Slow walking - check
Black and White cuts - check
Characters standing around - check
Crappy music - check
Yup it's all there.

This video reminds me a lot of the music video for "One" by Metallica. This video is like purplez...EPIC!

Cool video, creatively put together, I enjoyed it! And you almost can't go wrong with metal or hard rock in the fantasy genre.

I liked the video, it did have a unique feel to it, even though it seemed to drag a little bit mid to end. But this gets me right here:
"maybe to show off his guild's skills in dominating the raid instance."
I know that's not the case, there was not a single hard mode done. XT didn't have any void zones during the fight, didn't see Siff during Thorim, Mimiron didn't have his flames, and Iron Council, when you saw the small dwarf in the air with the lightening legs you knew he was done last, which is the easy mode. Plus he even showed Freya's keepers all 3 dead, and there was not even a shot of Algalon! We can run through all easy modes in a day but I don't call that dominating.
But besides that I thought it was good.

Slipknot =/= metal. For the record.
Anyway, the video was good to watch, but maybe something like Amon Amarth would have been better fitting of Ulduars theme.

I liked it, it's a good concept and it was pretty well presented, plus the song fitted.
