Patch 3.2 PTR: New Heirloom Items Gallery
We've heard these were coming, and now they're here: heirloom chest pieces. We just grabbed these screenshots hot off the patch 3.2 PTR. These are the level 80 versions, of course, but you can get a feel for what each chest has, statwise. You'll notice that the promised 10% experience gain is there on all the pieces, and that they are slightly bugged right now in that each of them has no armor. You'll also notice that the names and graphics, which hearken back to old original WoW gear, mostly match up with existing heirloom shoulders, so you'll even be able to get your newbie all color coordinated and whatnot. Of course, a set bonus would have been nice too, but I'm sure we'll all be able to comfort ourselves with that nice big experience gain boost. The chests currently cost 40 Heroism badges and a bit of gold to buy, although that may change before the patch goes live.

Oh wow, having the hit rating on that leather piece is nice, that stuff is pretty slim at low levels.

Heirloom items are designed to Power you through the old world content before you get bored of doing it all over again... so ofcorse their only going to make a DPS set

"Heirloom items are designed to Power you through the old world content before you get bored of doing it all over again... so ofcorse their only going to make a DPS set"
I understand the logic, but it's annoying logic.
I'd like the shoulders for my alts, not so that I can blitz them up to Endgame as fast as is humanly possible, but so that I can pick and choose my questing better, and access some of the more interesting old-world dungeons sooner.
I'd personally love to be able to level an alt quickly to - say - 30 in order to run the SM again, or to 45 to have another shot at Mara.

What exactly is awesome tanking gear? Crap plate with spirit on it? Because that's pretty much what I was wearing when I tanked everything from deadmines to strath. I'm not sure what kind of awesome pieces you were wearing, but there certainly weren't a lot in classic WoW. BC changed that, but Wrath again doesn't particularly require a complete tank set. Or you can just pick up cobalt pieces at 70. If you run an instance and you honestly think that a tanking chest is better, then just roll on it.

@zappo
I really agree with this. Back in vanilla, I played a warrior (my 2nd toon ever) up through the levels, I was spec'd Arms and using whatever gear I got from quests or drops, with the occasional crafted item from my smithing. I had no trouble tanking anything I wanted to, sub-60.
Now I happen to be leveling a warrior again (I changed servers at one point in the interim), I'm prot this time, with enough time, knowledge, and disposable income to be geared in anything I want. I can still tank anything I've hit (lvl 44 as of now), but I feel comparatively OP'd doing it now. It really wasn't hard back in the day, and it's a helluva lot easier now.
So, for Cyanea, I realize I'm saying something you already know here, but maybe solo with heirlooms and switch out pieces for tanking gear specifically when you're doing dungeons, and only swap the pieces that you actually have a tanking upgrade for. When I leveled a feral druid, I always maintained a set of healing gear, so that I could get groups more easily. Even if you don't, you can tank in the heirlooms alright anyway.

i though it requred an achivement to buy these? is that not the case on the PTR?
Kidneystones Jun 24th 2009 5:52AM
Well it does not req much on the PTR so it can be tested.

So will these only be purchaseable using emblems of heroism?
And since heroics/naxx will be granting EoC with 3.2, will we need to farm any emblems before patch or downgrade our emblems to buy these new heirlooms?
I would much prefer some way (maybe dailies) to continue just getting EoH so that I wouldnt have to spend conquest emblems on my alts...

Does the exp bonus from the chest stack with the bonus from the shoulders?
Molagmal Jun 24th 2009 6:13AM
so does this 10% XP bonus on the chest stack with the one from the Shoulders? so 20% XP bonus?
Immutef Jun 24th 2009 6:23AM
Yes, they stack up to 20%. Very nice, indeed.
Molagmal Jun 24th 2009 6:14AM
lol sorry, took a while to post it :P now the person above me already asked it :P
DanH Jun 24th 2009 6:14AM
Am I right in thinking that while these chests increase XP from both kills and quests, shoulders only increase kill XP?
Molagmal Jun 24th 2009 6:24AM
nope, the shoulders increase XP from quests and mobs sins 3.1 it was only mobs before

I'm still waiting for heirloom items to be able to cross realm borders. All my characters that need heirloom gear are on different realms from ones that can provide them.
In hindsight, bad idea. They're always dead broke. Oh well, that's what wool cloth is for...
