WoW, Casually: What Patch 3.2 means for casuals

Oh my. All of this Patch 3.2 stuff is a bit overwhelming. We'll go over the changes that affect most casual players here, but there is still a lot of info that I won't cover. Many class changes are on the way, as well as a series of Q&As that Blizzard is releasing periodically. Also, the professions are getting some attention. So keep an eye on our Guide to Patch 3.2 for the latest changes that are specific to your character choices. Here is an analysis of the changes that affect most players with limited playtime:
New Mailboxes: Ok, this is really minor, but it's been something I've been hoping for since Burning Crusade. More mailboxes will be added to Stormwind, Undercity, Darnassus and Orgrimmar. Anything that saves time and gets me back to questing is a good thing.
More travel options: They are adding a zeppelin from Thunder Bluff to Orgrimmar. This is long overdue for young Tauren (and will help with It came from the Blog events). Portals from Stormwind and Orgrimmar to the Dark Portal will also be added and a flight path from there to Shattrath will be available for characters new to Outland. This will definitely save time for leveling, but I am also having a bit of a "I had to run to Stonard and then to Shattrath and it was uphill both ways" kind of reaction.
UI Changes: Blizzard has tweaked the UI in a few ways: autocomplete for names, colorizing names by class, vendor prices listed on items, quest log improvement, and more. You will also be able to see which enemy spells are interruptable. My favorite addition is the ability to alt-mouseover any item to compare it to what you are wearing in that slot.
Quest Tracker improved: I like QuestHelper, but it's a resource hog and Dalaran isn't very fond of it. Finally, WoW's in-game tracker is going to start putting quest objectives on the world map and I think that means I'll be able to uninstall QuestHelper for good. I'm not lazy, but sometimes I'm all over the map, literally, and I like to have an easy way to remember what quests I can accomplish in my immediate area and, more importantly, where I need to return them.
Itemization buffs: Wrath randomized equipment loot (of the animalname) that is green or blue will now be a lot more powerful. This is good, because right now the random drops in Northrend are a bit on the lame side. Also, all mana per 5 items will give 25% more mana.
Arcane Torrent is now an interrupt against NPCs: I know this only affects Blood Elves and the people who group with them, but I think it's worth noting (maybe because I have a few Blood Elf alts). If an NPC cannot be silenced, Arcane Torrent will act as an interrupt. I have been stubbornly trying to use it as an interrupt for some time while soloing, so I'm happy that it will actually start working as I want it to.
Mounts and Travel Forms: Mounts are going to be cheaper and available sooner and travel forms will be be available even earlier to compensate. This is huge for those of us still leveling and with tons of alts. Also, the casting times of land mounts have been reduced from 3 to 1.5 seconds. Yay speedy getaways!
Tier 9 Emblems are now available via Daily Quests: The emblem changes are more complex than that and are very controversial, but I'm going straight to the crux of the matter for those of us with limited playtime. 10 mans may be considered casual, but if you only have a couple hours to play at a time, they aren't really practical. 5 man instances, on the other hand, are doable for many. With Emblems of Triumph being awarded for completing Heroic and regular daily quests, casual players will theoretically have access to Tier 9 gear. I say theoretically, because while a short-playsession player can complete a 5 man daily quest, the overall time commitment to be able to actually collect enough Emblems to buy just one tier 9 piece is far from casual. Completing a regular daily quest every day will still take 2 months to buy one tier 9 item. And that is playing every day, something we don't necessarily do. I am very sorry if you are one of the players who feels that non-raiders should have absolutely no access to Tier 9 gear, but don't expect to see a piece of it on any of us for months after you have your full set.
Battlegrounds will be more casual friendly: I am very excited about the BG changes that are coming up. I used to love Warsong Gulch when people actually played it. When it has a 20 minute time limit and allows for ties, I'll be back with bells on. Arathi Basin and and Eye of the Storm both require fewer points to win and less time to take over flags, so those will be quicker and probably more fun. The biggest news, however, is that completing objectives (capturing flags, winning the game) will give experience. This means that if battlegrounds are your thing, you could level up completely doing nothing but PvP. Note: Killing players will still not give XP. Also, twinks can turn off XP so they won't level, but that means they will only be playing against other twinks. In other words, your level 12 in whites and maybe a green or two will no longer have to contend with ubergeared/enchanted perpetually level 19 WSG professionals.
Well, this has taken me forever to write and I'm neglecting my It came from the Blog DK. Remember that some of these changes may not make it to the actual game, but hopefully they will. What are your favorite changes that are on the way?

Im really looking forward patch 3.2. Not just im a casual now, but the shaman changes makes me excited too.
and yes the mount at lvl 20 are real goodies :)
offday Jun 25th 2009 11:51AM
Why did this guy get voted down?
There are a lot of idiots who read this blog, huh?
Robin Torres Jun 25th 2009 11:54AM
He got voted down for having the word First in his comment. I edited it out, because the rest of his comment is valid.
Let that be a lesson to the rest of you. Readers don't like it when you say "First", even if you have something good to say afterward.
Wolftech Jun 25th 2009 12:12PM
@Robin Torres
Umm maybe you should read the comment. No where does Naku have the word 'First' in his post. His post is "Im really looking forward patch 3.2. Not just im a casual now, but the shaman changes makes me excited too.
and yes the mount at lvl 20 are real goodies :)"
So why was he voted down again?
Cuth Jun 25th 2009 12:18PM
Maybe you should read Robin's comment again where she said she edited out the first...
I had a debate about this with a super hardcore player who was thinking of quitting wow because of the emblem system. Casuals are never going to reach the gear that hardcore people will have. If it takes 2 months for casuals to get one piece of gear, 4 months for the next one, then blizzard will be releasing a new patch and it all starts again.
People need to chill. We don't play as much time as the hardcore, but we invest time in WoW nonetheless. We should be rewarded as well for the effort we put into the game...
Kemikalkadet Jun 25th 2009 12:18PM
Maybe you should read Robin's post.. "i edited it out".
Artiefarkel Jun 25th 2009 12:21PM
@Wolftech
And if you would read Robin's comment she says she edited it out but left the rest there. "The rest" is what you are reading and that's why you do not see "first".
Jay Jun 25th 2009 12:22PM
"So why was he voted down again?"
Because you didn't read all of Robin's response.
"He got voted down for having the word First in his comment. [emphasis mine] I EDITED IT OUT, because the rest of his comment is valid."
Robin Torres Jun 25th 2009 12:23PM
Can we stop talking about this now? Let's talk about bunnies! I think that gnomes should have bunny mounts. Discuss.
Naku Jun 25th 2009 12:25PM
hmm...
ok understood
/salute
Im not sure why is so bad saying that, but if you dont like it than I apologize.
Wolftech Jun 25th 2009 12:30PM
No, I didn't read all of that post so I missed that part where Robin Torres edited the comment and of that I am guilty.
But what right does anyone have to censor someones comments that are not derogatory or hateful? What gives you the right to remove stuff like 'First'. Let the world see they are and idiot, and not be the gestapo and censer everything. Whats next, someone disagree with you and you delete their post? Last time I checked this IS America and we have the right to free speech, even if it to post 'First' at the beginning of their comments.
Ragnorax Jun 25th 2009 12:35PM
America? This Is The Internet!
Robin Torres Jun 25th 2009 12:37PM
@wolftech
We are not the government. The first ammendment does not apply here. Private sites can control the content displayed.
I edited the word First out to be nice to Naku, because I felt that the rest of his comment deserved to be judged by itself.
Are bunnies too big? Should gnomes have hamster mounts instead?
impurezero Jun 25th 2009 12:41PM
Yes...this is America. Which stops the GOVERNMENT from editing blog posts. (Which, by the way, isn't what happened here, you may have noticed.) Fortunately, this being America also protects the property rights of blog owners who want to avoid an entire page of comments about the word "first."
But I do agree with one thing. Why not let everyone continue to see how stupid the idiots are. So, let's start a petition: Robin...please leave Wolftech's comments alone.
By the way...I would absolutely kill for a bunny mount.
Atomsk Jun 25th 2009 12:41PM
they should have ferret mounts. It is the perfect solution. Not only can they ride them, gnomes can also use ferret burrows for sleep quarters. :-P
kidandroid Jun 25th 2009 12:43PM
In America, and especially on the Internet, we also have the right to flame any idiot who says first in their post (that includes any idiot trying to defend it and say that we censor everything). Lets be honest, the internet is one of the most uncensored sources of information out there, don't take it personally we just dislike the word first in people's posts.
Oh, and welcome to Wowinsider.
Douche.
PS: I'm pretty sure the writer of the article has the right to remove whatever comment he or she wants. Especially when the comment pertains to his or her own article.
Robert M Jun 25th 2009 12:59PM
JUST PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT MAKE THEN MECHANICAL BUNNIES.
I hate all the sounds the mech chicken makes. They are such bad mounts that I grinded (ground?) the rep for an elekk.
Anyone willing to help me petition the removal of noisey clunky mech chicken mounts? Maybe replace them with Dun Morough bunnies?
placebo Jun 25th 2009 1:27PM
@Wolftech
Get a brain morans!
Go USA!
Jon Do Jun 25th 2009 1:32PM
Gnomes should NOT have bunny mounts.
But gnome Engineers CONSTRUCTING mechanical bunny mounts, now that is another thing altogether...
PS -
Next time just delete the "first" post and ban the poster.
It's easy and effective, and entirely avoids the discussion of gnomes and bunnies.
JKWood Jun 25th 2009 5:08PM
@Robin:
I agree. Bunny mounts all the way. My mage wants a bunny mount.
@ImpureZero:
Good plan. We don't have nearly enough mounts that you actually have to kill things to get. It's "PvP this, and buy that, and fish there." I vote that Gnomes can earn a bunny mount by soloing elite Hogger.
