The Queue: Goodnight, sweet prince
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today. This weekend marked the end of an era, my friends. A champion (cheater) of the people (Gnomes) has fallen from grace (the thumbnails at the top of our site). The people (you guys) have shouted to the rooftops (our comments), "Down with oppression (martial arts techniques)! Down with corruption (GM lewts)!"
So it is done.
JustSaying asked...
"Can someone please change those 4 pictures near the top of WoW.com's page? I'm tired of seeing that stupid gnome head every time I come to this site."
Since you asked so nicely, Karatechop has been replaced.
Spidey asked...
"I've been leveling an alt (Troll Hunter) recently and decided to go mining/engineering, mostly for the bow/gun enchants and the like. I just leveled engineering to 200 and decided to go grab my Goblin Engineering membership. While doing the quest for membership I realized that the Alliance have Gnomes as a playable class, but how come the Horde doesn't have Goblins? In fact, Alliance has two "small people" races (Gnomes and Dwarves). Any chance the Horde will ever get Goblins or anything smaller than the Forsaken? I think Goblins would be cool, or dare I say, Murlocs as playable races."
I really don't have anymore insight on the topic than anybody else you might ask, unfortunately. Only Blizzard knows what Blizzard does. What I can do is give my opinion, though!
I really don't think we'll see murlocs as a playable race anytime soon. Or ever. It's funny to think about, but... no, not gonna happen.
Goblins? I could see it. If it happens, I don't think it will be the Steamwheedle Cartel. What they would probably do is have one of the many Trade Princes throw their lot in purely with the Horde, and keep the Steamwheedle Cartel nice and neutral. The Cartel sees staying neutral as being in their best interests business-wise (which is why they aren't officially members of the Horde, even if they favor them), but maybe other Goblins don't feel the same way. It certainly wouldn't be the first time we've seen a story about a mega-corporation getting their heads too high in the clouds, and deciding having their personal army would be a good move. Well, maybe the first time in Azeroth. But not the first time in fiction.
So will Blizzard do it? No idea. Could they do it? Sure!
Hal asked...
"Will we have new sources of Crusader badges in 3.2? Will they be from new tournament dailies, the exalted Silver Covenant/Sunreaver quests, drop from the 5/10/25 instance bosses?"
Yes, there will be new sources of badges. We don't know their drop rates from the instanced content yet, or even if they drop there at all, because that stuff isn't available for play yet. The various quests acquired at Crusader and Sunreavers/Silver Covenant Exalted all give Champion's Seals, though. Once you've hit those landmarks your Seals-Per-Day will skyrocket. Well, assuming you like daily quests the will!
DM7000 asked...
"Aside from the Argent Tournament, what is another way to raise rep with home cities? I mean I've done some of the low level quests and I'm still at most revered with my main faction (Thunder Bluff since I'm a Tauren) everything else is honored. Any tips or anything? I really want the Crusader title."
You pretty much have two primary choices here. The first being keep hunting down low level quests. If I remember right, nowadays you'll still get the full rep gain off of even grey quests. Find quest hubs you haven't done, and tear through it. That would be the most varied and interesting way to do it.
The other way is to do cloth turn-ins, but that requires either a lot of gold or a lot of time spent farming. Every capital city has a cloth turn-in NPC for their faction. First they'll ask you for 60 Wool, then 60 Silk, then eventually you get to Runecloth. There's no Netherweave or Frostweave turn-in, just Runecloth. And it takes a lot of cloth to make any rep progress.
If anybody has any other suggestions, please leave them in the comments!

I've been using the !WoW Insider addon for a while now. I really like it. I've noticed that it is sending a lot of information in that I havn't seen as part of my character info I have access to. What are they doing with all the other data I can't see?
Arktic Jun 29th 2009 6:32PM
To expand on Johnny's question... If we turn off the experience gain at 80 (what would be the point, seriously... but if we did), would we no longer get the bonus gold from quests? It makes logical sense that we wouldn't, but if someone on the PTR could give it a try and confirm.

Any idea how much the Dragonhawk mount will cost once 3.2 arrives? I'd rather have that than a gryphon.
Aurilia Jun 29th 2009 7:10PM
The Silver Covenant/Sunreaver versions of these will likely stay linked to that faction (Gryphon for Silver Covenant, Dragonhawk for Sunreavers).
If you really want a Dragonhawk mount and are Alliance, you're likely still stuck with achieving the Mountain o' Mounts achievement (100 mounts) for the Blue Dragonhawk mount.

How many Champion Seals can we get a day come Patch 3.2, with the new quest dailies?

I liked the addition of the new races in TBC, that was a lot of fun (altho, they did kinda get dull after their starter quest zones). I think it would be neat to have more added in again , maybe this time starting at a higher level like the Death Knights did.
I think Goblins would be fantastic as a playable race, but what about the alliance? (they'd have to have both sides, right?) Would Centaurs be a stretch? They could be fun, if the lore worked out. And I think the Tuskaar might be good too, if they had a good reason to join the fray.
The speculation of the next expansion setting being water-based would probably be a factor too, so the Goblins could be on some island or ship based city. Any other sea-faring races out there?
Archimald Jun 29th 2009 10:49PM
Well the one place of Steamweedle Cartel that has not been released yet is Undermine. It's located on an Island just south of the Maelstrom. If the next expansion is water based, I think that Goblins may be a very likely horde race.

I like the goblin idea, and centaurs are something similar to what I wish they would do:
I would like to play the satyr/nymphae combination. So satyr would be the male model, and nymphae the female. I could imagine them on both sides, and they could be a new races where druid is available. They could make a great hero race (instead of hero class), or they could become the 'healer hero class'.
Really, I think they wont do anything so far from human form, because modelling gear for the would be loads of extra work.
Maybe werewolves could be playable also :) Sons of Arugal, like the DK, who "came back from the dark side".

about the goblins- they fought alongside the horde in the second war, and in the end they regretted it because they lost, and then lost all those trading deals etc. so now they're staying neutral.
Sean Jun 29th 2009 7:35PM
60 wool, 60 silk, AND 60 mageweave before you can do repeatable runecloth turn-ins

I have a question --
Why is everyone so sure those plate models discovered on the PTR are tier 9? Why can't they be the offset gear pieces? All of the Naxx offset plate looked like the starter DK set just re-colored (as a recent example) and tier sets had a unique look.
Maybe, just MAYBE Blizzard is going to give us faction specific gear, class specific gear, and offset stuff that isn't recolored tier gear (like T8 is). I mean, if they are going to give us faction specific sets again, they might as well make them look like they belong to that faction in some capacity. Maybe I am missing something somewhere but it just seems so much more likely that these models will be offset pieces -- none of them really scream Paladin, Warrior, or especially Death Knight to me.
Brouck Jun 29th 2009 7:51PM
For starters, the chest piece with the skull in the middle seemed to scream DK to me. As well did the sword scream Warrior. My guess is that Blizz Dev's are more worried about content/raids/instances than they are the pixels that make up gear.
Izzy Jun 29th 2009 7:55PM
Do some Baron runs, you get sick amounts of Runecloth
Grimmtooth Jun 29th 2009 7:58PM
I have one for you. What is the meaning of the clothespins on the Ironforge banners around the Tournament grounds? If you go back to IF or SMV, for example, the dwarven banner has a gold fringe across the bottom. Now it's been hidden at the Argent Tournemant grounds.
I am not the greatest at heraldry, but what little I know says that means something.
Ricky Jun 29th 2009 10:26PM
if it has the fringe, its made for indoors, if not, it is an outdoor flag/banner etc.
Shadamehr Jun 29th 2009 7:59PM
I cant see anything wrong with goblins, as a player race, coming from Steamwheedle. Starting area ... Undermine. Start off as neutral and at level 10 or higher, 20 at the latest, let them choose their path in life, the one they think would lead to the most profit ... the Alliance or the Horde. I wouldn't let them leave their starting zones till this choice was made. Can you imagine all the fun quests they'd have ? Most profit themed, would be like living on the Ferengi home world :)

Is there an addon that will automatically set Master Looter when I become leader of a raid group?
Been running some guildies through Ulduar 10 and I seem to only remember AFTER we go to loot FLame Leviathan :(
Rollo Jun 30th 2009 7:20AM
There are probably some raid management addon that can do this, or it would be easy to write. If you can't find one, you could add a line like this to a macro you are likely to use early in the raid:
/run if IsRaidLeader() then SetLootMethod("master","name") SetLootTreshold(3) end
In Ulduar where you don't use many of your own abilities before flame lev, maybe add it to the mount macro?
Tushar Bharadia Jun 30th 2009 7:28AM
Thanks, I'll try that out.

So, what happened if you can't go beyond aspirant due to latency but are exalted with Silver Covenant? That's my situation. It's fine if I get my seals which work with SC... I'll give them a "thumbs up", but if I have to be a champion to make use of the status I ground, then the finger I give to Blizz won't be my thumb :-/
