The Queue: Goodnight, sweet prince
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today. This weekend marked the end of an era, my friends. A champion (cheater) of the people (Gnomes) has fallen from grace (the thumbnails at the top of our site). The people (you guys) have shouted to the rooftops (our comments), "Down with oppression (martial arts techniques)! Down with corruption (GM lewts)!"
So it is done.
JustSaying asked...
"Can someone please change those 4 pictures near the top of WoW.com's page? I'm tired of seeing that stupid gnome head every time I come to this site."
Since you asked so nicely, Karatechop has been replaced.
Spidey asked...
"I've been leveling an alt (Troll Hunter) recently and decided to go mining/engineering, mostly for the bow/gun enchants and the like. I just leveled engineering to 200 and decided to go grab my Goblin Engineering membership. While doing the quest for membership I realized that the Alliance have Gnomes as a playable class, but how come the Horde doesn't have Goblins? In fact, Alliance has two "small people" races (Gnomes and Dwarves). Any chance the Horde will ever get Goblins or anything smaller than the Forsaken? I think Goblins would be cool, or dare I say, Murlocs as playable races."
I really don't have anymore insight on the topic than anybody else you might ask, unfortunately. Only Blizzard knows what Blizzard does. What I can do is give my opinion, though!
I really don't think we'll see murlocs as a playable race anytime soon. Or ever. It's funny to think about, but... no, not gonna happen.
Goblins? I could see it. If it happens, I don't think it will be the Steamwheedle Cartel. What they would probably do is have one of the many Trade Princes throw their lot in purely with the Horde, and keep the Steamwheedle Cartel nice and neutral. The Cartel sees staying neutral as being in their best interests business-wise (which is why they aren't officially members of the Horde, even if they favor them), but maybe other Goblins don't feel the same way. It certainly wouldn't be the first time we've seen a story about a mega-corporation getting their heads too high in the clouds, and deciding having their personal army would be a good move. Well, maybe the first time in Azeroth. But not the first time in fiction.
So will Blizzard do it? No idea. Could they do it? Sure!
Hal asked...
"Will we have new sources of Crusader badges in 3.2? Will they be from new tournament dailies, the exalted Silver Covenant/Sunreaver quests, drop from the 5/10/25 instance bosses?"
Yes, there will be new sources of badges. We don't know their drop rates from the instanced content yet, or even if they drop there at all, because that stuff isn't available for play yet. The various quests acquired at Crusader and Sunreavers/Silver Covenant Exalted all give Champion's Seals, though. Once you've hit those landmarks your Seals-Per-Day will skyrocket. Well, assuming you like daily quests the will!
DM7000 asked...
"Aside from the Argent Tournament, what is another way to raise rep with home cities? I mean I've done some of the low level quests and I'm still at most revered with my main faction (Thunder Bluff since I'm a Tauren) everything else is honored. Any tips or anything? I really want the Crusader title."
You pretty much have two primary choices here. The first being keep hunting down low level quests. If I remember right, nowadays you'll still get the full rep gain off of even grey quests. Find quest hubs you haven't done, and tear through it. That would be the most varied and interesting way to do it.
The other way is to do cloth turn-ins, but that requires either a lot of gold or a lot of time spent farming. Every capital city has a cloth turn-in NPC for their faction. First they'll ask you for 60 Wool, then 60 Silk, then eventually you get to Runecloth. There's no Netherweave or Frostweave turn-in, just Runecloth. And it takes a lot of cloth to make any rep progress.
If anybody has any other suggestions, please leave them in the comments!

Viable for what? Raid DPS? Not a snowball's chance in hell. But if you want to be able to do a semi-decent job of grinding for quests while still being able to heal in heroics, it's feasible.

I remember hearing that at one time, during WoW's preproduction, the original concept was to give the Alliance High Elves as their fourth race and Goblins to the Horde. Gnomes were to be the neutral faction. Eventually it became an dispute between Goblins and Gnomes: Which would become the silly race and which would be the neutral faction? In the end Goblins were replaced with Trolls and instead were given the Cartel. Blizzard felt the goblins felt more like type to go neutral-for money.
When I went to verify my sources, I couldn't find anything, so maybe this is all in my head. If anyone has proof for or against this, please share.

I have not heared anything about that. But if I remember correctly the dwarfs and gnomes where already teamed up with the humans in WC3. (The Mortar team was a gnome and a dwarf I belive). Therefor it would have been a wise choice to give the Alliance the Gnomes.
The Goblins where allready neutral in WC3. They sold ships and zeppelins (Don't remember if they were behind the other shops as well).
Giving alliance the High Elves to play would have been foolish if you look at the lore. The High Elves are next to wiped out after the scourge invasion. Most of those remaining called themselves Blood Elves instead. And then they were sendt on a suicide mission and only survived with the help of the naga. That is when they were thrown out of the alliance.
So therefor the most logical of the two major factions we have, The Horde and THe Alliance, was to give the Blood Elves to the Horde.
The Forsaken are a part of the Horde after all, and the Forsaken queen was once a High Elf. And they would rather join her side then the cowards that still calls themselves high elves, and look upon themselves more as human then elf.
Soz, blood elf "fanboy". And horde "fanboy" ^^

You know, people keep saying "there aren't enough High Elves left to have a faction", but we have the Troll and Gnome who are both nearly wiped out (at least sane, faction-sided members of each race...forget about the lepers and those other tribes), and we have the Silver Covenant, a whole faction of High Elves. Between the Covenant and the Elves hanging around in Stormwind (there are a couple), Hinterlands, and the Eastern Plagues, I see a large amount of High Elves, especially compared to the aforementioned races.
Just my two cents.

Interesting question about the increased gold. Should people with experience off even get monetary rewards? Yeah, probably.
As far as shockadins being viable... Yes. But it's a LOT of work.

I suspect if we get new races in the next expansion, they might be something we haven't seen before. I don't know much about the lore for the coming expansion (Emerald Dream? Maelstrom?), but none of the current races seem to fit well with that aspect.
That being said, I could be very wrong. There's still a bunch of "empty" zones in the Old World that could easily become a starting zone for a new race we've seen running around. Hard to say what's on the horizon.
ZakuraX Jun 30th 2009 5:10AM
There is even a whole human country in one of the unused zones
Aideros Jun 29th 2009 9:56PM
When are more "hero classes", like the Death Knight, coming out? What are the speculations? Has anything been said about them since WOTLK?
ZakuraX Jun 30th 2009 4:53AM
I could be wrong, but I don't think they have said anything about what the next hero class is.
The next hero class is comming with the next expansion, and there will be a new hero class for every expansion that commes.
You can OFC speculate in what the next hero classes will be.
It could be: Ranger, Demon Hunter (That would be kind of awsome :D), Lich (Doubt that one tho) or any other char type from the previous warcraft games.
Depending on what the next expancion is about, we will probably get a hero class from one of the 4 main Warcraft 3 factions.
If Maelstrom is the next expancion, then we will probably see one type of hero class, but if they instead make for example, The Nether, then we might get something like Demon Hunter or of that sort.
Charizard Jun 30th 2009 10:28AM
No. I believe the quote by Blizzard was something like "Don't expect a hero class with every expansion." And I hope they don't add another class that will imbalance the game even further. But I would be happy to see new races. Someone mentioned earlier the possibility of the Tuskarr being a playable race, and as much as I would love them to be, I highly doubt thy will be. Their entire storyline is in Northrend and I expect it to end there and they find happiness fishing in the Frozen Sea and stealing Wolvar babies.
In one of the last quests for the Tuskarr in Dragonblight, you go and talk to that big green sea goddess they worship and she pretty much orders the Tuskarr to go with the Alliance and the Horde to Icecrown to fight the Lich King, so I don't think we're done with them for this expansion.
And my question for the Queue is: How much honor are the uncut epic gems on the PTR?
hunterleigh Jun 29th 2009 11:05PM
I'm thinking of buying a new laptop. How much computer do I need to play WoW on 3/4 settings?
Abbadon Jun 29th 2009 11:49PM
If it wasn't already mentioned, you can do the repeatable quest, Morrowgrain Research, for Thunder Bluff rep. IMO, it's more tedious that the cloth turn ins, but check your AH... both Morrowgrain and Ungoro soil can be bought which makes it a tad easier (if the prices is right).
And a question of my own...
I recently finished the Mountain of Mounts achievement - first on the 3.2 PTR and then on the live realms. The thing is, though... on the PTR, I was rewarded with both the Red and Blue Dragonhawk mounts!! I just reviewed the updated 3.2 patch notes, and this is still not confirmed as an upcoming change. Does anyone know if we're really going to get both mounts for the reward come patch day? (Or is this some sort of fluke on the PTR?)

Regarding a good way to raise rep with old world factions: visit all the elders during the elder festival world event (sorry I forget what the holiday is called). Took my main to exalted with 3 of them in one weekend. This is the most efficient way, even though you'll have to wait till next year to do it. Surprised no one, especially the person who's paid to know these things, mentioned it.
doit Jun 30th 2009 2:35AM
Probably because the LUNAR FESTIVAL only occurs between february and march which are months that won't be occuring for about half a year.

So I have a question for the PTR folk. We all know that 3.2 is going to change the mount costs drastically downward. So, my question is, is the 100 Gold for the artisan level mounts (epic flying) be limited to just the Gryphon/Wyvern or also to the similar priced netherdrake, nether rays? Same question for the Nagrand faction of your choice talbuk, it it staying 70/100 or becoming 10 as per the rest of the epic ground mounts? Really doubt that the Halaa nor anything from Wrath would change (although note it's 10 Crystal Powder Samples instead of 20 to make a Research Token) but I sorta wanted that checked. Thanks, Jobby.

Goblins only think buisness. Ofc they don't want to join the horde :P Don't think any of them would choce the horde over money. that is just the way they are IMO
jabbawonga Jun 30th 2009 9:44AM
i just farmed an entire pvp holy set for my pala to make a shockadin and the burst doesnt compare to ret :( although if u have high lvl pve gear this may be different. Also, until exorcism is fixed to work in pvp you only have holy shock and judgements to work with. Perhaps then you can do 2 large burst shots but when your on cd your pretty much fair game :(

Dear Wow Insider aka the Quene i got a couple of 80's now and want to level more i thought of speeding it up a bit i already have the xp shoulders and midsummer is the best time to level them but i thought of speeding that up even more with RAF (Recuilt a friend) but is it worth the money and the time i got two computers so that is no problem?
With the rumors of Cross faction transfers coming soon i thought i hold off on leveling my hunter so that leaves a total of 5 characters that i would like to hit 60. a 39,24,22,22,17
The question is (Is it worth the $) and time reduction and two if it is what would be the smartest way to level these toons. with my RAF i'm to sure on leveling rules and stuff.
Charizard Jul 4th 2009 3:00PM
I know I've already asked a question, but this one has been bothering me for a while. Can the Queue think of any reason as to why the Dragonhawks from the 100 mount achievements are 280% flying speed mounts and the Violet Proto Drake a 310% mount? The dragonhawks take much more time and commitment and are something you actually have to work for, whereas the holiday achievements are a trivial distraction from your dailies that anyone can do. Don't take this as QQ, even if it kind of is. The dragonhawks take rep farming, instance soloing, gold farming, daily farming, and considerable luck to be obtained, whereas the holiday ones pretty much just need you to be logged in and present for the 8 weeks of the year it takes you to get the achievements.
With the addition of the Sunreaver Dragonhawk to the game, the people who get 100 mounts won't even have a unique model for their accomplishment. I generally respect Blizzards decisions, assuming that they know what they're doing (and I don't normally say this), but it's obvious they don't care about the people who take the time and obviously enjoy this little aspect of their game.
I'm at 92 mounts and I have no intention of stopping, mostly because I hope in maybe 3.3, they'll change it up like they're doing for engineering in 3.2.
