World first of "Alone in the Darkness" a possible exploit
We reported last week that a guild named Exodus on the US realm of Ysondre had come out of nowhere to topple the world first of the Heroic: Alone in the Darkness achievement, which requires that you bring down the biggest bad currently in the game, Yogg-Saron, with no help from any of the Keepers in Ulduar. But not so fast, says Serennia over at WoWRiot -- over on their forums Ensidia is claiming that Exodus used an exploit, and that their kill doesn't count at all. Apparently, having Thorim help on the fight keeps the "Immortal Guardians" in the last phase of the fight from being a problem, and without Thorim, you have to not only do the fight without his extra 10% damage bonus (each Keeper ups your DPS that much), but you have to deal with the Guardians messing up your melee classes, and oh yeah: they both heal and get healed by Yogg. Not that it's impossible to do it, but it's definitely not easy, and Ensidia claims that Exodus found a known exploit that allows you to evade the Guardians out completely, thus turning the last phase into a straight tank-and-spank, obviously much easier. After that, it gets into some guild back and forth (Ensidia apparently did something that might have been an exploit on Hodir, and when people call them out on that, they say that the exploits were different -- Ensidia's tactic was just an interesting use of game mechanics, while the exploit Exodus is suspected of using is more of a cheat), but the fact remains that Exodus is clearly not a guild that anyone expected to clear what might be the toughest raiding achievement in the game before anyone else, and yet that's exactly what they did. Ensidia says they won't be killing Yogg for the achievement using the exploit, and that they've reported the Exodus kill to the devs, so we'll have to see if the devs decide that Exodus did cheat, or if they let Exodus keep their achievements and mounts. We're not sure how much it all matters, with world first kills not being all that important any more (and that's exactly what the devs might say as well), but Ensidia is claiming that an exploit took place -- we'll have to see if that turns out to be true.
Thanks, Nimrod!

Ensidia hasn't mentioned what the exploit they found was, but users on the forum have said running the Guardians into Yogg and getting knocked back causes the Guardians to evade. Another one is a healer or something staysthe in the brain room and heals another person in the brain room(??? not sure) to gain aggro. Adds cant reach the healer and evade. Who knows if either of those are true. Just what i have heard.

Whether they cheated or not, they deserve it for the giant douchebags they are. Just head over to their recruiting section and look in awe of them rejecting every single person who applies followed thereafter with undeserved insults.

If you want to try it
the way that people expect Exodus did it was that they had a tank taunting the adds. What the tank does then when he has aggro is to run in and melee Yogg Saron. This will cause a Knockback which bugs up the adds and you get an "Evade". What happens then is that the adds "falls" through the ground, thus despawning. This means that a tank can get rid of all the adds, and every dps can focus on YS. The only issue here is that the tank has to take an initial hit or two, but this essentially makes P3 as easy as an old tank and spank Molten Core encounter. This method is extremely easy and worked as of 28/6-2009. I don't encourage you to do it though, since Blizzard is probably going to ban people hard for this.

1) spell stealing is a move inplemented by blizzard, certain moves cannot be spell stolen, if the buff ensidia had to do mimiron hard mode wasn't ment to be spell stolen blizzard would have made it stealable
2) if exodus releases the video then theres no more controversy

i believe i ment to say hodir hard mode.

What? Another guild something before us? THEY CHEATED. WE'RE THE BEST! WE HAVE TO HAVE EVERYTHING FIRST!
It's a friggin' game. Ensidia getting butthurt over this is the epitome of nerdrage. Whether exploits were used or not, they're just sore that they didn't get it first.

Ensidia may not have come out and accused Exodus of using an exploit, but you don't have to look hard to see the subtext.
It seems "indirect roundabout accusation" is a more accurate description of what's going on here. Ensidia doesn't seem to believe that any other guild could have accomplished "AitD" based simply on the fact that they themselves haven't done it.

Looking at the article history, Exodus got the kill on the 25th, which means at the very least Bliz has had two business days to look over the fight logs. Now granted it's a lot of information to go through, but you'd think something like AitD they'd want to verify ASAP. If we get to the end of the week and no hammer is dropped, we can probably rest assured that the kill is legit.

If Exodus did exploit, I'm sure blizzard will know and we'll find out that they're a bunch of cheating bastards.
If not, this only serves to make Ensidia look like a bunch of whiny brats.
Honestly, I'm hoping Exodus didn't cheat. Plowing through content just to be first for bragging rights essentially makes you an arrogant prick, but cheating to get an achievement makes you a just as bad.

I love the fact the top progression guild has the personal email of the Lead Encounter Designer.
Karilyn Jun 29th 2009 8:40PM
It's not surprising considering they were in the same guild for something like 8 years in Everquest.
Osprie Jun 29th 2009 11:42PM
Oh, and look at that, Blizzard's mates had a cry and Exodus got banned. But when Ensidia exploit it's all above board.
lawlatallyall Jun 29th 2009 8:38PM
Permanently ban both guilds imo. Now neither gets world firsts or nerd points. Bam, problem solved.

Hehe, this is like watching two nerds have a slap fight. Neither of them can win, but it's funny for the rest of us to watch.

Ensidia needs to stop whining. Jeez.
Just because they can't get all the world firsts, etc etc etc doesn't mean they have to rag on everyone else.
Besides, they've used "Exploits", Oh wait, their "Interesting use of Game Mechanics" on many other bosses anyways so yes, QQ Moar Ensidia.
Cry me a flipping river.
Wolftech Jun 29th 2009 9:10PM
Meh.
Put you ePeens back in your pants and be quiet. Personally, I am sick of all these World Firsts and so on. Of course, I want to see PVP removed from the game entierly, so I am a bit biased.
Fizzle Jun 29th 2009 9:25PM
If their attitude in game is any indication, it's entirely possible that Exodus used an exploit to get the achievement. If not, congratulations are in order, however the timelines seem weird.
