Clarification on upcoming Engineering changes in 3.2
Hot on the heels of yesterday's great news about Engineering in Patch 3.2, Community Manager Zarhym has clarified a number of changes and what they mean for Engineers.
The first clarification was for those concerned about how to acquired the schematic for Jeeves, the new multitalented robot butler. The list of changes indicated that the schematic could be acquired from "inside" another Northrend mechanical. Zarhym expounded when pressed about it:
Just to clarify, the Jeeves schematic has a chance to be "skinned" by engineers off of any level 70+ mechanical units. The drop rate starts incredibly low, but increases substantially based on the level and difficulty of the mechanical unit. So Ulduar bosses that can be "skinned" by engineers have a much better chance of dropping the schematic than lower-level mechanical units found in Northrend.
That's great news! It's available for non-raiders at (Zarhym says) a very reasonable drop rate, but since raiders will get the most use out of it, mechanical raid bosses are much more likely to drop it than a mechagnome in Borean Tundra.
Following that, he also announced a number of changes, which are listed after the break.
Based feedback to the thread, the following changes are coming about the the Engineering plan:
- World Enlarger: Cooldown is now 15 minutes, down from 1 hour.
- Mind Amplification Dish: A passive bonus of 45 stamina has been added to this tinker.
- Nitro Boosts: Passive bonus is now 24 critical strike rating.
- Frag Belt: The cooldown is now 6 minutes, down from 10 minutes.
Engineers, be sure to post your feedback regarding these changes in the thread I linked above, and you may see more changes as the 3.2 PTR marches on.
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. No wonder ppl ask me all the time what level engineering is needed for that rocket mount...it's not an engineering mount, it's from the trading card game! Just commenting on the picture the author chose to associate with this engineering post :)
Cydonian Jun 30th 2009 5:22PM
But it should be an engineering mount! :P
Michael Sacco Jun 30th 2009 5:28PM
I chose it because these changes should have you feeling like you could fly~

The editors apologizes again for the fault in the picture. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked.

The editors of this post hired to continue the post after the other people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked.
The post has been completed in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute.

Just watched that movie again last night. Well played.

That's one of the big issues a lot of engineering players have had with Blizz. So many cool potential engineer toys being available only as a Trading Card Game reward. It was a pretty big slap in the face by Blizzard back when engineering was being nerfed to death.
As for you, mrbreck, don't be so damn uptight. The column pics are meant to be interesting, and not some technically accurate representation of the article content. Also, I would like to remind mrbeck and Cydonian that the FUTURE of engineering is what is being talked about. So I like Michael Sacco's choice because what engineers want is that big fat rocket. Plus we want it with a triple Global Thermal Charge core (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=42641).
Hear that Blizzard? Give us the future! More rockets. More explosions! We need more explosions!

It's a cool shot, regardless.

@Fausts
Stop calling things game developers do a "slap in the face", its a slap in the face to anyone whose ever been slapped in the face.

The Mind Amplification Dish would be great for my druids tank set, it beats Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector by 8 stam. Though there is the loss of 20 defense, defense is a sub optimal stat for bear druids. Id also hope the MC effect would be usable on 25 man Instructor Razuvious.
Bob Dewane Jun 30th 2009 5:36PM
^This.
It seemed to me that with a passive Stam bonus that beats the Stalwart Protector that this is custom made for tanks to allow us to do the MC in the Razuvious fight the same as if it were being done in 10 man. I can switch my gear around to compensate for the loss of the Def Rating and I already keep a second helm (with a different meta gem) to go with various gear set ups. An interesting note on this, to say the least.

With a 10-minute cooldown, though, it'd be pretty tough to finish the entire fight with a single Engineer. Perhaps 3-4 Engineers working together?
Eisengel Jun 30th 2009 10:43PM
MC dish?
.>
... so are Priests getting any Engineering devices as spells?
PvtDeth Jul 1st 2009 3:09AM
@Eisengel and anybody else complaining about this
There's been an engineering MC helmet for a long time:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10726
This new one is just a level 80 version.
Syme Jul 1st 2009 12:43PM
Yes, Eisengel, priest will get something from engineering. All your spells will now have a chance to backfire and kill your character.
Benjamin Jun 30th 2009 5:48PM
what possible chance does that MC hat have of not having any sort of CD though?, and unless i'm mistaken, unless ur raid has the DPS of a god, you'll have to MC the apprentice more than once in the fight.

A couple of Eng-related observations from the PTR:
The Goblin Arc Welder, once created, has 30 charges and a 3-minute cooldown. It's very handy in SoTA and the Isle of Conquest - you can extend the life of a SoTA demolisher long enough to make a game-changing difference. Utterly useless in Wintergrasp, however.
Cobalt Frag Mines are now hugely useful in PvP, especially since I play a Hunter - I can incapacitate a Ret or Rogue while I get range again. I haven't had the chance to try them in Arenas; if they work there, they'll be very nice.
yokumgang Jun 30th 2009 6:44PM
Can you use a Goblin Arc Welder:
Riding on a demolisher? (Not controlling it)
Riding inside a WG Siege Engine? (Not controlling it nor cannon)
While controlling a vehicle?
Can it be used on the drakes in Malygos P3 or Ley-Guardian Eregos?
How about the FL vehicles?
