Clarification on upcoming Engineering changes in 3.2
Hot on the heels of yesterday's great news about Engineering in Patch 3.2, Community Manager Zarhym has clarified a number of changes and what they mean for Engineers.
The first clarification was for those concerned about how to acquired the schematic for Jeeves, the new multitalented robot butler. The list of changes indicated that the schematic could be acquired from "inside" another Northrend mechanical. Zarhym expounded when pressed about it:
Just to clarify, the Jeeves schematic has a chance to be "skinned" by engineers off of any level 70+ mechanical units. The drop rate starts incredibly low, but increases substantially based on the level and difficulty of the mechanical unit. So Ulduar bosses that can be "skinned" by engineers have a much better chance of dropping the schematic than lower-level mechanical units found in Northrend.
That's great news! It's available for non-raiders at (Zarhym says) a very reasonable drop rate, but since raiders will get the most use out of it, mechanical raid bosses are much more likely to drop it than a mechagnome in Borean Tundra.
Following that, he also announced a number of changes, which are listed after the break.
Based feedback to the thread, the following changes are coming about the the Engineering plan:
- World Enlarger: Cooldown is now 15 minutes, down from 1 hour.
- Mind Amplification Dish: A passive bonus of 45 stamina has been added to this tinker.
- Nitro Boosts: Passive bonus is now 24 critical strike rating.
- Frag Belt: The cooldown is now 6 minutes, down from 10 minutes.
Engineers, be sure to post your feedback regarding these changes in the thread I linked above, and you may see more changes as the 3.2 PTR marches on.
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. Can you use a Goblin Arc Welder?
Can you use it in a box?
Can you use it with a fox?
Can you use it in a house?
Can you use it with a mouse?
Can you use it here or there?
Can you use it anywhere?

@yokumgang
How would you be able to weld a drake? Would this not irritate the drake, rather than heal it?
Why am I even asking this?

I'm really curious about the second part of the Mind Amplification Dish.
Added a new Mind Amplification Dish attachment for helmets, allowing engineers to control other humanoid targets. Some restrictions apply: does not work in Arenas, dish sometimes reverses targets, unable to stack with other stat-improving head enchantments and makes your helmet look... stylish?
Im guessing this is going to turn any helm into the same model as the old Gnomish Mind Control Cap/Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator...
But maybe the engineering gods will smile upon us and this enchant will turn any helm into goggles?
I will pray hard to them for the latter.

I figure that it will add a little rotating dish to the top of your helm.

Oh, I hope it changes the helm. I would pay *real money* to transform the fug-ugly Ulduar rogue hat into a mind-control helmet model.

Silly question , how does one "skin" a mechanical?
Magus Jun 30th 2009 8:32PM
There's more than one way to skin a mechanical.
Turall Jun 30th 2009 8:35PM
I refer to it as "Salvaging". Because that's what it is. And "who wants to skin Flame Levi" sounds silly.

My guild just calles it eng/engineer. "Who wants to eng FL?", or sometimes, "Who wants to harvest FL?"
Being the most vocal engineer, and one of only two really dedicated ones, I usually get the honor. :)

I call it "Deconstructing". Especially fun on XT-002.l

Forst, I agree with the comments on the TCG Mount, if they want to toss a cookie to the card nerds, cool, but it definately SHOULD be added to the game for high level Engineers to build, along with the other "Engineering" items they've done the same to.
Am I the only one that's getting REALLY sick of this? As SOON as we get a decent item to build, they turn around and nerf it. Then, they turn around, and in this case COMPLETELY undo the nerf they just laid on us. Half the best items we worked hard to build, or get the PLANS to build, are useless in WoTLK as they either don't work over 60 or 70 (anybody still got a Reflector in their Engineering bag?), or don't scale for crap (Landmines, anyone? Wish your Dragonling was more then a stupid toy?).
So yeah, the changes coming down look fairly great, we finally get a replacement for the Diving helmet some of us have been using forever, on the other hand, the one truly BiS item we could build, our googles, are being nerfed to the ground, and no itemization is being added back to make up for the nerf, how about a 100gold rebate for screwing us on them Blizz? They'll be good for what, 2 levels now before you likely trash them? How about the ONLY Engineering item that works in Arena is the trinkets.
Sad.
I REALLY hope this is a sign Blizz is going to be a bit more, "fair" to the profession, as much as I love it, because it's FUN, they do what they've been doing for the last few months, and they might as well get rid of it. Cause it really feels like whenever we figure out a useful way to use the dumb stuff they foist off on us, they immediately nerf it.

latest post in that thread says we can pay to switch out specialisation!
Sanguinefrozenboy Jun 30th 2009 11:29PM
It would be nice if someone could list the location of the Mind Amp schematic or w/e or if it's even available on the ptr. I'd like to test it out if at all possible.
