New pet and mounts achievements coming soon
You're a pet and mount maniac. You've hunted down every noncombat pet you can find, gotten a lucky roll on every rare mount you can possibly pick up, and after long last, you've earned both the "Lil' Game Hunter" and "Mountain o' Mounts" achievements. But still, you want more for some reason. More pets, more mounts, more achievement points.Good news: Bornakk says that there will still be more to find. While he says they won't be upping the achievements every time they bring out a patch that has more pets and mounts to collect, they will definitely add in new achievements periodically for collecting both noncombat pets and mounts (and, though he doesn't say so, we'd assume they'll add in extra rewards besides the achievement points, including extra pets or mounts to be earned at each level).
So if you are in fact a collecting master and have already earned the 75 pets and 100 mounts (a much easier feat than it used to be) for both maximum achievements currently in the game, just be patient. There'll be new goals to go after soon.

Look on the bright side.. It's not like you can have all of your pets out at once!
::another shudder::

It's more like Pokemon syndrome. And I got it bad.

I hardly ever actually saw most of my different mounts and pets until I got a plugin to randomly summon them whenever I needed a mount or pet, etc. Still love collecting them, and now the novelty tail is a bit longer. Oh, and I have space on my bars again :)

Woohoo! About time. I already have over 100 pets. Time to get rewarded. I want a mini tauren cow.

The last two pet achievments seem to have come from Bambi, will the next continue this?
Stinker/Flower
Little Fawn/Bambi
Rabbit?/Thumper
I'd rather like a giant bunny, scaled up like the sewer rat, that jumps around like the NobleGarden rabbit
If I can't have a rabbit I'd like some sort of weasel
Hellbena Jun 30th 2009 12:01PM
Actually, Stinker is based off the Warner Bros. classic character Pepé Le Pew. It's evident if someone pulls out a black cat while Stinker is out because he will start chasing the cat.

Well past 100 pets already, come out with the achievement now please.

Tumnus Jun 30th 2009 11:50AM
Bah I'm a collector but I want to be done!
Discolando Jun 30th 2009 12:09PM
You're playing the wrong genre of game if you ever want to be 'done'.

I'm at 70/75 for the pets and I figure I can manage to scrape those up through various sources that just require the luck of finding them on the AH or getting them randomly (fishing daily, fishing in the sewers, etc).
Mounts I'm at 61/100 and I can see clear to get to about 75 without much trouble due to reputation pets I'm missing. A lot of the rest though will be farming extremely rare mount drops. Netherwing, the Sha'tari pets, and the tourney mounts will be the easiest ones for me to get by far.
I like the challenge of collecting though. I got my Scorchling from Ahune last week (which I'm still hearing about from a guild member who lost the roll to me). It wouldn't be a worthwhile achievement to get 100 mounts or 75 pets if some of them weren't going to be difficult to obtain. Though, I have to say, unless they add a significant number to the game in the near future, upping the milestones for the achievements seems almost beyond unreasonable just based off the lists I've gone through from what I'm missing.

Warcraftpets.com has a good rundown of minipets, and you can customize your own page with all the pets you want/can get.
Right now I can get 100 pets (no TCG pets, no pets from other countries, etc) and that's not counting the raptor pets they are adding in, which will make it quite easy. I've got.. oh, a little over 80 now, I think. I stopped keeping track once I got the fawn.
And mounts, I'm 80/100. Apparently the AQ bug mounts count towards the total even though you can only use them in AQ. Yay.

I use 'The Collector' add-on to check to see what pets and mounts that your missing. I don't think I would have as many pets if I didn't have the add-on. The Collector is available on Curse.

Son of a...I need to buy a more confortable computer chair...
Emrys Jun 30th 2009 12:34PM
Why not? :-p
Seriously though, I used to collect pets before the achievement system and now it seems like less of an achievement because everyone is doing it.

I get bored looking at the same mount day in/day out. I also dislike having to make choices every time I want to mount So I have an addon that randomizes my flying and ground mount, as well as pulls out a random vanity pet for me when I need to. It's basically personal preference. I know people on both sides of the fence. Or, I know some people who collect pets, but don't care about mounts, or vice versa.
I wonder now how much gold I'd have if I didn't buy pets and mounts...

I was pretty disappointed when I got to 100 and the Dragonhawk looked so lame, not to mention I did it pre 3.1 so I pretty much had to have a 310% mount to do it making the Dragonhawk even more useless. I'm hoping for something much cooler this time.

Why spend hours a week raiding, or hours a week in bgs or pvp teams?
Something for everyone. Mounts and pets are something that casuals can work/grind for.
Not to mention, it's a little time consuming and boring to try to keep my sister updated on play mechanics and how I'm "progressing" through raids when she asks what I'm doing in WoW, but she loves hearing about the new animals and mounts. (She was more excited than my guildies were when I got the riding turtle, for example)
Also, if you do pvp a lot, I suspect it's a good idea to have at least *one* non-class mount, from another race, just so it takes people a second longer to figure out what you are, and therefore how to attack you.
