Patch 3.2: Enter Trag Highmountain

We've met Anveena and her soul mate Kalec, Tyri and Jorad as well as Broll and that Blood Elf chick whose always hanging around Varian, so I've often wondered when Trag would turn up. It's inevitable given how his quest to Icecrown is in keeping with Wrath of the Lich King. Imagine my surprise when I logged on to the PTR for the first time this morning to find one Tauren Death Knight standing guard over one of the incapacitated forms of one of the Coliseum bosses.
Yes, it's our old friend Trag, now a level 80 NPC. While seeming hostile, he makes no move to attack the Alliance or speak, he just seems to stand near Gormok the Impaler. I'm sure he'll get some lines by the time Patch 3.2 goes live though. Having not yet read Warcraft: Legends' final volume, I'm curious to find out what happened to him but it's nice to know he's finally free of the Lich King's thrall.

Lich King's thrall? :(
ttvp Jun 30th 2009 9:36PM
thrall (n): bondage, slavery, the state of being under the control of another person
And yes it was meant to be a pun
ttvp Jun 30th 2009 9:37PM
Err, I meant to say it served the purpose of a pun as well
Task Jun 30th 2009 9:16PM
Its an unintended pun, but we all know what Lesley meant to say by that.
majorfalcon Jun 30th 2009 9:40PM
I don't.
Clydtsdk-Rivendare Jun 30th 2009 9:48PM
Lol, didn't even notice that thrall thing.
But haven't I seen this post before?

Aw, Trag!
Nice touch that he's a Death Knight. Hope he's doing well! =)

Damn, I thought this post would be about a night elf girl riding a giant cock.
Laffe Jul 1st 2009 5:35AM
To be honest, I expected this to happen. Doesn't make it less cool though!

It's good to see Trag in the game. I guess it implies his story will have a good outcome.

where do you watch your manga?...online :P

Manga are printed works, you might call them a form of black and white comic books.

The "Valeera's just in the comic for T&A so I can't be bothered to remember her name" stuff, which I have seen before, is a little disheartening. She's really not any worse of a character than anyone else in the comic, as much as I might roll my eyes over the tendency of the artists to draw her looking like a thirty year old stripper when she's apparently supposed to look like a teenager even to humans.
Drahliana Jul 1st 2009 9:19AM
He's hostile but not attacking because he's a Horde Tournament NPC like the Sunreavers. Which means if you're Alliance, he's probably not going to be saying anything to you.

and that Blood Elf chick whose always hanging around Varian
Wow, stay classy. Can't be bothered to remember her name because Blizz decided to dress her in two spangles and a hanky, huh?
1. She's actually NOT hanging around Varian in the comic ATM, she's off dueling Cho'gall to save Garona's kid
2. She's always been a pretty good character, no worse than either Broll or Varian, and you remember -their- names
3. Blizzard really blew it when they decided to tart up the Sin'dorei equivalent of a runaway homeless 18-year old in a leotard and thigh-highs, I know, but there's no reason for anyone who actually bothers to link to her WoWWiki entry not to use her damn name instead of dismissing her as Varians' little cheesecake hanger-on. It's fairly sexist, actually.
If you bothered to remember Tyri's name, then you remember Valeera's.

@ Guildenstern:
Yes. Lesley Smith, a female, hates women.
You totally hit the nail on the head there. Good work.
Ayane Jul 1st 2009 11:58AM
Most women don't hate other women....we just hate tramped up elven tarts. ^_~
Irem Jul 1st 2009 12:03PM
@ Ian--I think it's something a lot of women internalize, that it's feminist to devalue female characters who are dressed to be eye-candy. Unfortunately, when we distance ourselves from those characters because of how they look, we're contributing to their overall objectification too. Despite how she looks, Valeera is not a sexpot character; she's pretty much a child. It's often the case that female characters who are drawn to be stereotypically sexy or wear skimpy costumes have their actual character traits ignored--even by feminists and our allies--because supporting those characters is seen as supporting a sexist portrayal. However, a judgement based on looks is still a judgement, whether it's negative or positive.
It is possible for women, and even progressive, well-informed, feminist women, to do or say sexist things and not realize it.

Hate to be so negative but Trag is such a boring character. I skip over his stories in WoW Legends and in the pages of the Sunwell Trilogy manga. The art is good but his character is just so bland. Surprise, surprise... Rich Knaack is the creator of Trag.
Perhaps the game will redeem Trag just like Kalec and Tyri. (Anveena is still annoying and Jorad was just eye candy lol.)
Omegan01 Jul 1st 2009 6:47PM
Yeah, I agree with you there. I skimmed through his story in the recent Legends release and it pretty much consisted of twenty pages of "woe is me" accompanied by laughably overdone heavy-handed GRIMDARK art.
