The cataclysm is the Greek expression for the Deluge, from the Greek kataklysmos, to 'wash down' (kluzein "wash" + kata "down").[citation needed] and it has also been used to describe events such as the Flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and the tenth plague of Egypt. The modern usage of cataclysm is mostly confined to geological phenomena of high significance, such as the destruction of Pompeii, the Tunguska event, or the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

95% sure this is the name of World of Warcraft's third expansion! :D

The fact that Cataclysm = The Flood is, i think, striking.
I've always enjoyed the Naga for some reason, even before i knew what they actually were, but ever since i found out and then read that the Maelstrom and the South Seas were a possible expansion...
and then saw that the naga were "currently" involved in stealing water from Outlands and attempting to melt parts of Northrend...

my thought was that the next expansion will begin with a flooding of Azeroth. Imagine if, in the same way that the zombie plague hit us prior to the release of WotLK, a flood sweeps across coastal areas of Azeroth, maybe even reaching and then filling the Undercity. It would be an epic World Event, perhaps implemented by phasing, that would certainly send Azeroth's heroes after the next Big Bad, the Queen of the Naga.

More importantly, it's already a term in WoW lore, as another name for the Great Sundering which caused the Maelstrom.

1. New "underwater continent" will be revealed not too far from Azshara coast.
2. Naga will join The Horde.
3. Murlocs will join The Alliance.
4. We will swim instead of flying. New swimming mounts!
5. lazers-tazers-shmazers-etczers and water-cannons instead of swords and hammers.
