What this is is not really a faction change but a character swap, even if it's a character of the same name. For the most part I wouldn't even try to create an RP justification for this but it's doable for individual cases with a lot of thought.For the D20 game it's a Gamemaster handled process since by nature paper and dice has a lot more built-in freedom not being restrained by code mechanics. (as well as the option of declaring one Independent in faction, which is not being made available here) The paper and dice game also gives GM's the ability to implement all of the downsides of changing faction, including getting attacked by others of your new faction who don't know or don't trust your new allegience. I might see my night elf going blood elf for a temporary period of time as means to spying or trying to understand the other side. (She had more than enough of being orc while infiltrating the Dragonmaws to help the Netherwing Flight)
