Every newspost being made about this service seems to be misrepresenting what the service is supposed to do. At no point has Blizzard made any assertion that this is supposed to be your Level 80 Orc Shaman getting fed up with Thrall and going to work for King Varian. That's just distorting what this service is about and I think it's confusing more people than it's informing. It's really nothing more than the Character Customization service they implemented earlier, except the element you're changing is 'Faction' instead of 'Gender'. It's all the faction-specific data elements (like mounts and reputations) and questIDs that make it complex enough to warrant it as a separate service and fee. There doesn't need to be any kind of lore component, just as there doesn't need to be any lore component for why your character is a dude instead of a lady. It is a technical change and nothing more. To answer the initial question, though: I think this is the only method that Blizzard would ever allow a faction change for characters, because allowing Gnomes in the Horde and Tauren in the Alliance would be counter-intuitive to creating a sense of mutual hostility between the two factions. And Blizzard made it clear with Wrath that they wanted to bring the war back to Warcraft by heating up the conflict between the Horde and Alliance. So short answer is it's not the best way, but it's the only way to do it and maintain their professed intentions. Don't get me wrong; I'm a huge fan of this site, and I'm normally not one to complain. I just don't like how this service is being misrepresented.

So why let DK be on both sides and of all races, blizzard may want to bring back PVP to the game. But the PVE story line doesn’t support it at all; they are literally Allies since about level 40 which just don’t talk to each other. All the new BG since Vanilla WOW makes absolutely no sense with regard to why they are fighting or in many cases where they’re fighting. I play a lot of PVP with both my Horde and Alliance toons. I don’t struggle at all in knowing who is my friend or foe. It’s just a blue or red outlining to me, they look so often the same anyway, at least Blizzard has finally decided to make the gear different, between faction. Which is all you really need if you think about it. Who cares who is under the gear? All those comment about they will quite if they see a Gnome running around in Orgrimmar. Why didn’t they quite during the Holidays, when there was tons of Gnomer in Orgrimmar? People like to make a lot of thing absolute, which really just cosmetic once you set down and think about it
