2v2s will still be in Patch 3.2, with exceptions

That effectively killed off the 2v2 bracket.
However today, Blizzard has done an about face on the issue. Sort of. Not that this is a bad thing, mind you. They're listening to feedback and this patch is in testing. The fact that they're willing to make such a major change based on feedback they've received is a great thing.
So as of today, your 2v2 rating will count towards your ability to purchase gear, etc... It will mean something. However the following exceptions apply:
- The current season's weapons will not be available for purchase with your 2v2 rating
- The current season's shoulders will not be available for purchase with your 2v2 rating
- Your 2v2 rating will not count towards the Gladiator title/rewards
The full announcement from Bornakk:
After further consideration, and after hearing from many players, we are going to change how we approach the 2 vs. 2 arena bracket in Arena Season 7. We still think the 3 vs. 3 and 5 vs. 5 brackets will ultimately offer the best play experience, especially for very competitive gamers for whom game class balance issues are most noticeable. However, we recognize that many players just prefer to play in the 2 vs. 2 bracket and will miss the chance to earn the current season's gear. Therefore, we are going to still allow the 2 vs. 2 bracket to grant access to the current season of gear with three important exceptions: the current season's weapons will not be available for purchase, the current season's shoulder armor will not be available for purchase, and players will not qualify for the Gladiator title/rewards unless you earn the appropriate rating in the 3 vs. 3 or 5 vs. 5 bracket. We look forward to the changes in the next major content patch and hope to have a great next Arena Season.
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. Power of the people I guess. Seems a fair compromise, allowing those who like 2vs2's to still get some gear.

What's with the paladin?

The picture was just a temporary one so I could get the information out faster and work on the rest of the post / picture later.
Delphenus Jul 3rd 2009 4:47PM
Ah, I see now. You seem to use that one a lot.
tutti Jul 3rd 2009 12:36PM
He's in full level 60 PvP gear, I believe?
Gessilea Jul 3rd 2009 12:38PM
I doubt this will get answered on the official forums, so maybe one of the rather higher quality posters here could enlighten me: why does there seem to be an attitude that getting the title and mount is better than getting the gear? I'm a pvp noob, but it seems to me that gear rewards would be more substantial and, you know, useful than the mount and title, even if vanity stuff is a lot of fun.
Eamara Jul 3rd 2009 12:41PM
Gear lasts for one season. Titles and mounts are forever a symbol of your skills. Well, not titles, because they go away after each season I think? But mounts definitely do stay.
Gessilea Jul 3rd 2009 12:45PM
Good point, that.
Jonisjalopy Jul 3rd 2009 8:39PM
Yup, you are only your title for that next season. It's like other sports; your champion until someone takes it from you =)
danawhitaker Jul 3rd 2009 12:39PM
Okay, seriously, just take out 2v2 at this point. Weapons are the only thing I was interested in, and I just joined a 2v2 team about three days before these changes were announced.

Bah humbug
Sheki Jul 3rd 2009 12:41PM
I don't think they should do this. Three's and Five's in my opinion is too chaotic and I enjoy two's TONS more than the other brackets. Why is blizz feel the need to usher us into the other brackets? Isn't there goal to allow casuals to experience what the hardcore people enjoy?
Eamara Jul 3rd 2009 12:42PM
You will be able to experience 2v2 arena. You just won't get the best gear from it. If you want the best gear, go 3v3 or 5v5.
Sheki Jul 3rd 2009 12:49PM
If you aren't getting the best gear why bother? It's like running Black temple at lvl 75. You may get an upgrade, but just run something else and you will replace that and outshine the gear you had from doing it. Why bother?
Endless Jul 3rd 2009 12:57PM
That's simple... they feel a strong urge to limit, stifle and undercut any choice we have. Instead of providing more and more choices, they're aiming to streamline everything, in order to make it easier to maintain and balance. After all, they already know we're dumb enough to stay nonetheless.
Dart Jul 3rd 2009 1:00PM
"You will be able to experience 2v2 arena."
You are able to play 2v2, but it won't be the same, people go where the gear is, WG was laggy, but people went.
People will stop playing, the queues will get longer, which will make more people stop playing, and it'll become a wasteland like the BGs are.
Magresda Jul 3rd 2009 1:00PM
"If you aren't getting the best gear why bother?"
Can't be that much better than 3v3 or 5v5 if you're not bothering with 2v2 because you're missing out on TWO PIECES OF LOOT and a title you probably wouldn't get either way.
Blizzard listens to all your QQ (Yes, it WAS QQ) and you still complain? Grow the fuck up.
Sheki Jul 3rd 2009 1:08PM
It's just annoying to see somethin I enjoy get the boot I guess *Shrugs* be it I need to "grow up" or whatever it still sucks. Like Dart said, since it's being discouraged more people will stop playing it leading to longer queue times, less games, and less arena experience for everyone that enjoys the 2s bracket.
Tridus Jul 3rd 2009 6:41PM
They want 3v3 and 5v5 to be bigger. They've given up on drawing non-arena players in for the rest of Wrath, the rest of the arena changes have totally pooched that (there's no loot for the lower brackets = people will go raid/bg/wintergrasp instead).
So, the only thing they can do is try to poach 2v2 people into the other brackets. It's retarded, 2v2 is the most popular one for a reason.

" Isn't there goal to allow casuals to experience what the hardcore people enjoy?"
I was going to write a serious response to your comment, but then I saw that.
ITS ONE MORE PERSON.
Sheesh.
(P.S. Serious reply: 2v2 is all about comps. If i see druid/hunter as priest/rogue its auto lose. If i see druid/hunter/warlock versus my PMR, then we have a chance. 2v2 is just waaay to hard to balance. Oh, and prot/holy paladins are just stupid)
