Breakfast Topic: World of Dancecraft
New tier sets and Arena gear are cool, new 5-man content is awesome, and a new Battleground is almost too good to be true. We're being hit with a flurry of new content it's easy to forget that Blizzard still has to introduce those new dances they teased us with before Wrath of the Lich King was released. I just remembered all of this when the world saw one of its pop icons pass on last week, the inspiration for the unmistakable Night Elf male dance. The King of Pop will be missed, and I'm happy that he at least got an homage in my favorite game.
Just like the Night Elf male dance, many of the racial dances are inspired by some real world choreography -- Tauren males rock out like bananas dancing Peanut Butter Jelly Time; Draenei males do the Tunak Tunak Bollywood-style; Orc males can't be touched while doing the hammertime; Blood Elf females do their intoxicating Britney moves; and Blood Elf males relish every opportunity to display their Dynamite masculinity. As you can see above, the female Night Elf dance is a poor man's version of Alizée's live performance of J'en Ai Marre.
If and when Blizzard does manage to put out those dance studios, what new dances would you like your characters to learn? Maybe something from Ok Go? How about some modern dance as a nod to celebrated choreographer Pina Bausch who recently passed on? Too avante garde? Perhaps Chubby Checker's twist deserves an homage, too. If that April Fools joke wasn't so downright silly we might even see some Azerothian Jabbawockeez. Share your thoughts with us, and even if you're not all that interested in dance, you have to admit that French pop isn't the worst way to start the day.

I'd like to see dancing as a skill.
Of course, the native dance should be at full skill level when your character is "born", but you would be able to learn a secondary dance, and level it up by dancing that dance.
Even better, would be if you could only learn this secondary dance from players...
So if you wanted to learn the Orc male dance, you'd have to convince a male orc player to teach it to you.

My wife (who plays Warcraft quite a bit) learned this dance (the one in the video) so she could dance like this at our wedding. So, we gave Alizee's music to the DJ, had him play it, and she danced like a Night Elf in front of everyone she's ever known.
The neat part was that all her friends liked the dance style, so she was out there on the dance floor teaching all these other women how to dance like Alizee.
My friends (who also play Warcraft) and I stood watching with our jaws on the floor.
If you think one chick is hot while dancing like this, you should see 5 or 6...

The real Michael Flatly Riverdance....and the Stavos Flatly variant as seen on Britain's Got Talent. Also, some lyrical stuff. Maybe even some ballet...Orc in a tutu would be hilarious. Maybe actually a level of customization would be good to, pick your own specific mix of moves, then make additional moves unlockable by various means (like achievement rewards).

It's already there - my Belf Hunter does it when he bugs after dismounting - his torso doesn't move, but his legs are crazily gyrating. XD

Point taken. :)

What I'm thinking of is a dance studio sort of thing, like with haircuts. You can go in and set like 5 random moves from all the races and a few new ones (my favorites being the Carameldansen, The Time Warp, Thriller and The Worm). You may have to shell out a bit of gold to learn the new ones, but I'd pay it.

I'd take *anything* else than Macarena. Blizzard, pleeeease! It's bad enough that my girl can't jump, tells unfunny jokes, does a /shy like she's lost something - at least give her decent dance!

I want the dance in "Crazy Kiya Re" from the movie Dhoom 2! (What my friends and I affectionately termed the, "Start the rickshaw, drive the rickshaw!" dance--check out around ~1:00 in.)

If we should ever get an Ethereal race, this better be their dance.
