Patch 3.2 PTR: Finding the Raptor Pets
For those of us who like to collect stuff in WoW, one of the cooler announcements for patch 3.2 was the inclusion of a whole new set of raptor hatchling pets, dropped around the world by rare and elite raptors. Of course, it was also an announcement of dread for serious collectors who can tell horror stories of killing thousands upon thousands of slimes and dragons for rare pets before. But will it be all as bad as that? WoW fansites have been on the case.Mania, maven of Hunter pets, has also been looking into the drop rates and drop mobs, and has compiled a handy chart on her blog. Between Mania and the news on Warcraft Pets, it seems we can mostly confirm that the rare raptors (such as, for example, Takk the Leaper) will always drop their pets, while those that drop only off elites have a very rare drop rate more similar to the aforementioned slimes or dragons.
Of course, this is all according to preliminary reports compiled by Mania and Warcraft Pets from player submissions and Wowhead comments, and it is a PTR, so things may change. Still, if you're a hardcore collector, or want to get a jump on the inevitable 100 pet achievement when it comes, or just want your own cute baby raptor to squeeze, you may want to start making raptor hunting plans now. And remember, if your rare pet farming luck is horrid, Breanni will be selling a raptor pet as well.
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. WoW.com will have you covered every step of the way, from extensive PTR coverage through the official live release. Are the rare pets BOP or BOE?

On Warcraftpets they say they're BoU, which I think means BoE. Its going to be very hard to collect the pets from the rares, they'll be camped out by fellow collectors (which is fair enough :) and gold farmers (Not the gold selling variety, the ones who'll put them on the AH for 4k gold etc. and insane collectors will buy them too). Just one of the rares has a 5-8 hour respawn timer, another is in the same area the horde farm for their equivalent of the Winterspring Frostsaber, good luck trying to get that if your on the Alliance side.

BoU == Bind on Use
But O. M. F. G. that thing is so freaking cute. Want want want want want.

Those raptors are so ugly.
I want them all.

Its kind of funny, because i checked the wowpets site recently, and it said that 8 new pets will be comming out......why dont they say it as it is; ONE new pet with 8 color schemes (and one custom action/sound)
I think they should take this a step further, and have a vote for the coolest mobs in the wow, and make them have a 5-25% chance to drop a mini-version of themselves.
To me it seems like a win-win situation, collectors have way more to collect, it will be much easier to get the vanity pet related achievements, and blizz gets more subscription money because people are farming that much more.

my vote for would be for a sporelok "pet" ...of course they should have been included in childrens week like the wolvar and gorlocs are as killing em in for a drop makes their situation worse ...i'd probably do it though

I want to know more about the "marionette" pet.

I was just thinking of that, actually.

I love these new pets, but they are really starting to make the older ones look bad. Have you looked at your bunny or prairie dog lately? The models are awful in comparison. I wish Blizz would update them at some point.

About the Breanni pet, it isn't clear whether she'll also sell it on live, even in limited supply.
Heard nothing official about it, but it would be weird to get one raptor pet pretty easily, while the others are hard to farm/cost a fortune on the AH.

It's no different from some other pets. You can buy a slew of cats from the Crazy cat lady, but have to go thru Deadmines and get lucky to get the silver one and have to be Horde or use AH to get the Black Tabby.
The birds, you can buy some in Booty Bay and others drop from the mobs outside.
Personally, I'll be in the pet shop the moment the patch goes live to buy my little guy! Then off to farm the rest.

Whelpling drop rates I could probably cope with... Hyacinth Macaw drop rates will probably make the collective pet collector population howl with anguish. Either way I'll be getting them :)
Mr.Asmodai Jul 4th 2009 11:53AM
enh I'm more excited about the gorloc pet but if the raptors are all this cute I'll try to get some.
giovalfi Jul 15th 2009 10:05PM
they should let hunters or some new profession tame critters and "create" mini pets out of em. Hell if its a new prof let them tame anything for a minipet version
snarkygoldfish Jul 4th 2009 4:19PM
...Am I crazy for crossing my fingers that we'll get more spider pets? I'd really like a purple version of the Smolderweb hatchling we saw in those ice caves in the Storm Peaks. :(

BoU makes my pet collector's heart weep. I can handle punishing myself for a small chance at a reward, but being taken advantage of by others leaves a bad taste in my mouth. (I've got about 94 pets, and I've bought maybe 2 from players)
evankimori Jul 6th 2009 10:00AM
*crosses fingers* Let them stay BoE...let them stay BoE...
Finally, a proper chance at making some cash off of a farming habit and my stupid luck of running into rare mobs!
Wandering Demon Jul 14th 2009 12:53AM
Imo Blizz should toss on a item before the patch goes live that lets you name your companion pets... for instance some sort of scribe thing like the one for renaming hunter pets I mean why should Orphans get all the fun? ^.^
