My guess was this bug was intentional by the programmer (again, because all these animations take a lot of work), and Blizz will let those who have already tamed Garwal keep him.
Also, I think the glitch to tame him will be fixed today. So for you hunters who were able to tame this awesome pet, a big GRATZ! You deserve to keep him.
