Around Azeroth: The fine art of self-ownage
The latest installment of Walhtor of The Underbog's "Series of Embarassingly Avoidable Deaths" is available for purchase. Entitled Drowning in Shallow Water, it features Walhtor's bloated, humiliated corpse drifting pathetically under the waves. It joins previous offerings Fell Off Teldrassil While Auto-Running, Accidentally Right-Clicked the Horde Flight Master, and Went AFK in Contested Territory and Was Slowly Beaten to Death by a Level 15.

"Went AFK in Contested Territory and Was Slowly Beaten to Death by a Level 15" made me chuckle. Although, i too know the dangers of autowalk. It's almost as deadly as autofollowing friends, who happen to be complete idiots (ie. me):
A friend went afk while we were hanging around in warsong hold, while waiting for the Zeppelin. he didn't want to miss it, so he autofollowed me so that he would get on it the same time i did. Naturally, we went to the roof, i put down a demonic circle, and we jumped off, and i immediately ported back to my circle just in time to see my friend hurl himself off the building. He missed the zeppelin.

I have purposely (and a few times successfully) jumped off of teldrassil. It's a really long fall and a huge pain in the ass if you die and dont want to take sickness

I think plain ol falling off Teldrassil counts.
There is a quest in that area to kill a white/silver spider that spawns on either side of the large waterfall. I'd only been playing WoW for a few days then, and thought I could make it across the river. I didn't and my body fell to die on some rocks midway in the falls. It was when, as a ghost trying to retrieve my body and determine if there was a way back up, that I fell all the way down (missing my body).
I didn't know, at the time, that ghosts could 'hearth' back to the rezzers, so I swam ALL the way around Teldrassil to the flight point.

When I was a supernoob to WoW, I had before been playing City of Heroes. When you fall great distances in CoH, you don't die, you just go down to one HP. So I decided, on my new nelf, to jump off Aldrassil because I could...and learned that when you fall a long way in WoW, you die. I also have wandered off the edge of Teldrassil and ended up getting a GM to send me back up there because I had no idea how to get back to my body. The there was the time, a couple of years ago, when I barely defeated a bunch of monsters (it was one of those 'protect ____' quests where they attacked in waves)...only to inadvertantly step backward into a campfire and die.

Glyph of Levitation is a great glyph for any priest. It allows me to leap off cliffs and float down to safety, without ever having to worry about stocking up on light feathers. Unfortunately for me, the arrival of dual spec meant that while in my newly acquired shadow spec, this glyph would have to be repurchased. I am embarrassed to admit how many times I've flown to Dun Niffelem, switched to Shadow Spec to do Hodir dailies, and then thrust myself eastward off the glyph only to see the repeated message: "Reagant Missing: Light Feather" flash in the center of my screen.

"Accidentally Right-Clicked the Horde Flight Master"
My version: Right-clicked a horde player 5 levels above mine. I /exit 'ed and logged back on. I was dead :ยด(

As a balance druid, jumping off of aldor rise, accidentally hitting moonkin form instead of flight.... I saw feathers and wondered why i wasn't flying... and went splat.

As a Blood Elf who hadn't chosen between Aldor or Scryer yet, I was welcome on the Scryer's tier. This worked out well for me, as I had snuck into Uldaman to get my enchanting up, and then had someone port me to Shattrath so that I could load my character for Enchanting. As a Rogue, I had "Safe Fall" and the Lv50 quest reward cloak "Duskbat Drape", which used to give a static 50% fall damage [amazing cloak before the nerf!].
I got used to dropping off the elevator a little early from the Scryer's tiers.
Later, when I was high enough level and decided to work for the Aldor, I didn't even pay attention to the height difference and quickly became a pretty little pancake.

Oh man, I once was exploring a low level area, and saw a giant ring of mountains in the middle of the map. I wondered what was up there, and looked for a way to get up there.
I managed to find a path in, and was wandering around, when I saw a giant swirly green portal, I'm thinking, "Cool. I wonder if its an instance and It'll take me somewhere... My guide book didnt say there was an instance here."
So off I go running to see what was thee, all innocent and new, when BAM! giant green dragon comes out of nowhere and kills me in one hit. I was freakin out, wondering what happened. And I'm watching this giant dragon stomp all over my body.
I have to say, I completely avoided that entire zone, under the impression that that thing just wandered around the entire place.
That was probably my most interesting death. :D
