Mend Pet sponsors an SPCA charity donation drive
Brajana at Mend Pet has kicked off a month-long donation drive and giveaway to support the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She says that since Blizzard has decided to finally give out some more stable slots to Hunters back in patch 3.0.2, what better way to celebrate than by helping some real-life animals. She has a link on her blog for you to give as little or as much as you'd like to support the SPCA and their cause, and if you choose to put the donation "in honor of" Mend Pet (just follow the instructions on her post), she'll enter you in a drawing to win some prizes. What prizes, you ask? Apparently those are still being worked out, but we're sure they'll be great. And it's a great cause anyway -- do you really need prizes to show some pet shelter love?If you do, just hang on -- the donation drive lasts through the 31st of this month, so Brajana has some time to get everything together, and even if you donate now, you'll still be entered for sure. It's always awesome to see the WoW community put its size and power to good use, and this is definitely a worthy cause to support.

Not that I mean to be nitpicky, but you may want to change the wording of your post a little. the line "She says that since Blizzard has decided to finally give out some more stable slots to Hunters in the last patch..." is ambiguous and potentially misleading. I don't know about others, but when I first read that, my first thought was "last patch = 3.1" which I knew couldn't be right, since we didn't get more stable slots. Then I thought it was a typo and meant "next patch", meaning 3.2. But I hadn't heard anything about that, either. Then I thought it meant "last patch of Wrath of the Lich King", i.e. 3.3. It also briefly occurred to me that it might be a reference to the fact we got new stable slots just before this expansion. (3.0.2) However, I wasn't sure until I read Brajana's site what was meant. I suppose "last patch of Burning Crusade" would be accurate.
Anyway, this is a great idea. I hope the fund raiser goes well. =)

I was all giddy at the prospect of yet more stable slots as well.
Good cause, in any case.

Just thought I'd get in before all of the people who start posting tripe about the SPCA, confusing it with PETA.

What is the difference between the "ASPCA" and the "SPCA"? Are they different groups all together? Because if they're one in the same or the SPCA is some offshoot of the ASPCA its something to think about.
Despite what people like Keyra would like you to do, learn about an organization before you start handing over money.

???
Not certain how you got that out of me heading off ignorance at the pass (trust me when I say that I have seen my fair share of arguments from idiots who thought that the SPCA or ASPCA were part of PETA, or were confusing one for the other), but whatever. <shrug>
The SPCA is international. The ASPCA is solely relegated to the United States. Hope this clears up your confusion on the matter as well as clarifies what I was trying to do.

There isn't an official SPCA umbrella organization. The American SPCA and SPCA International both do widespread educational outreach and provide grants to some local shelters, but if you're looking for the best way to support your local shelter, then you should donate to it directly.

The ASPCA is the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. I'm holding this donation drive for the International SPCA because it seemed more appropriate, as not all WoW players are American (myself included). It is an international game, so I thought an international charity would be a good fit.
I fully encourage everyone to find out more about the charity and where the money goes before donating! You can find out more at www.spca.com.
Thanks, Mike Schramm, for posting a link! I hope it will help generate some more support for this great charity.

Aww man! I was totally thinking of doing an (A)SPCA drive for our next charity event (http://www.sleepercartel.com/index.php?Page=17). Now, I'd feel like were copying you guys!
Seriously though, using the power of the WoW community to do some good out in the real world is an awesome feeling.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to figure out a new charity...

Bob Barker says: Remember folks, help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered today!
Anyways its a good cause. All my family's pets were adopted from a shelter, you can find such wonderful animals there, who cares about "pure bred" when they're so cute?

And thankful for you rescuing them from a terrible and lonely fate!
Animals do show thanks. All my adoptees are now part of my family as much as anyone else and they show their thanks every single time I get home to loud howls and bark of joy! :)

My cats strongly support this action. Or they would if they decide to quit napping.

In my 'spare' time I am an active member of NDART (Nat'l Distaster Animal Recovery Team). This is a cause that touches my heart, HUGE kudos for getting this together and I love the synergy that's created with the 'Mend Pet' theme.
Like someone above said, using WoW to impact RL in a positive way is huge win/win.
Cheers!
