Changes in Patch 3.2 PTR build 10072
Another week, another Patch 3.2 PTR build with no access to the new instances yet. I'm sure they'll appear on the PTR when they're ready (™). In the mean time, what tweaks and changes have they made in build 10072?
Well, for one thing, they added in the Crusader's Coliseum versions of the Undying achievements. A Tribute to Immortality requires you to reach the end of the heroic-mode raid with 50 attempts remaining (possibly a placeholder quantity), and without any of the raid members dying during boss encounters. It doesn't say for sure, but I would guess this is calculated in the Ulduar style - if you down boss A without anyone dying one week, boss B the next, etc., you get the achievement.
In lieu of the now semi-traditional Proto-Drake mount fancy title, those who complete this feat are granted a black or white Crusader's Warhorse (as pictured above-right).
A number of T9 bonuses have been modified, mostly for the better. Various crafting changes have been made as well, mostly raising the requirements for the higher-end recipes. The new engineering improvements are also now in the game.
Moving on to the class changes, and mentioning only the ones that seem important:
- Death Knight
- Blood Plague and Frost Fever have both been buffed from 5.5% of AP + 1.15 to 6.325% of AP + 1.15, a 15% increase.
- Druid
- Mana cost reduction of shapeshifting moved from Primal Tenacity to King of the Jungle.
- Enrage now generates 20 rage instantly, and an additional 10 rage over 10 seconds.
- Mage
- Living Bomb can now be used on multiple targets at the same time.
- Mana cost of many frost spells (Ice Barrier, Cone of Cold, Frost Ward, Frostbolt, Ice Armor, Ice Lance, Frost Nova) cut by about 15%.
- Empowered Frostbolt reduces the cast time of Frostbolt by 0.1/0.2 sec instead of increasing its crit chance.
- Permafrost now also reduces the healing received by the target by 20% - a mini-Mortal Strike.
- Paladin
- The amount Ardent Defender heals for when you take fatal damage varies based on your defense. With no +defense gear, you will receive 0 healing; when defense-capped against boss mobs, you will receive 30% of your health (with 3/3 points in the talent). In other news, it is still massively overpowered.
- Priest
- Devouring Plague's cooldown has been removed, but it can only affect one target at a time.
- Dispersion's cooldown is now 2 minutes, down from 3.
- Improved Mind Blast now also confers that 20% mini-Mortal Strike benefit to Mind Blast.
- Warrior
And finally, listed in the patch notes is that Dodge and Parry have been retuned slightly to make the benefit from one point of Dodge rating the same as the benefit from one point of Parry rating. Agility now also boosts your dodge by less, although they "recalibrated" the amount of dodge players have with 0 ability, so you should see your dodge percentage vary "a small amount."
Look for more in-depth analysis of changes for your class (if there was much to analyze) in upcoming posts!

Hmmm... pony?
Sargenus Jul 8th 2009 12:12AM
GHOSTCRAWLER GAVE US THE PROMISED PONY!
I mean.
What.
Spazmoose Jul 8th 2009 10:14AM
I STILL WANT A PONY...Oh, we're getting one?...I WANT ANOTHER PONY

# Empowered Frostbolt reduces the cast time of Frostbolt by 0.1/0.2 sec instead of increasing its crit chance.
This is a dps increase, but Frost is still far from being good enough for (serious) raiding. But it's a start, and makes me happy. Rest of the frost changes are obviously PvP oriented, it's not like PvE Frost ever runs out of mana.

Aaaaaand I replied to the wrong post. Do they make Failbot for blog comments?
jam Jul 8th 2009 12:11AM
All new comments system for WoW.com would be nice. Not being able to edit your posts sucks (and it's just one of the things that sucks with this system).

and why in the hell have fire mages received instant cast seed of corruption?
pantear Jul 8th 2009 8:34AM
I'm wondering that too, Robert. Especially since Fire Mages don't have Seed of Corruption, unless you know something we don't...
Qot Jul 8th 2009 9:51AM
I believe Hal and I both replied to comment 1 and it got pushed to comment 2.
I apologize for the confusion.

@PantieWearer,
LOL, are you that naive? It's the exact same spell, one does shadow damage and the other does fire.
The level 80 incarnations of the spells look like this...
Living Bomb: The target becomes a Living Bomb, taking 1380 Fire damage over 12 sec. After 12 sec or when the spell is dispelled, the target explodes dealing 690 Fire damage to all enemies within 10 yards. This spell can only affect one target at a time.
Seed of Corruption: Imbeds a demon seed in the enemy target, causing 1518 Shadow damage over 18 sec. When the target takes 1518 total damage or dies, the seed will inflict 1633 to 1897 Shadow damage to all other enemies within 15 yards of the target. Only one Corruption spell per Warlock can be active on any one target.
They seem pretty similar to me, though I am sure they look like completely different spells with completely different mechanics to some people. I ask why because it's bad enough that locks and mages look alike in their gear unless it's tier (not that t9 won't nip that little problem in the bud, and we all be looking alike), but now the spells are starting to run together.
Trust me it has little to do with lock love. I shelved my former main lock after the great aoe patch of 2008 and have not leveled him with any real passion because they have ruined them IMO. My mage is now level 73 after being 45 when Wrath launched and I enjoy playing him much more now.

living bomb has to be dispelled, or the target has to take the damage from the spell for it to explode. seed merely has to take damage from anysource to go boom. which is why seed explode a second after contact and living bomb doesn't
Hal Jul 7th 2009 11:58PM
They did. It's called "Exorcism with a cast time."
Todd Jul 7th 2009 11:59PM
Wow, what's with the buffs to Frost? This seems rather out of character for Blizzard. o.O
zweitblom Jul 8th 2009 5:32AM
Whereas mages continue to whine as usual. Yes, we get it, Blizzard hates you and will not stop until there are no mages left in the game *sighs*
RetPallyJil Jul 8th 2009 12:02AM
Charger. Want.
Delphinus Jul 8th 2009 12:02AM
better Devouring Plague, much much better Dispersion CD (now matches with BElf racial CD), attention to Mind Blast, Shadow Priests Rejoice!! Finally, our cries are heard, we have been noticed by Blizzard at last!
Almoderate Jul 8th 2009 2:04AM
Aye. That's a very nice buff to shadow priests, and I'm quite anxious to try it out on the PTR as soon as I get the new build downloaded. I can only cross my fingers and pray that it makes it to live.
Sanguinefrozenboy Jul 8th 2009 3:22AM
Noty.
I'd rather scratch my head in curiousity over the mini MS to mind blast.
I don't get it.
Wyred Jul 8th 2009 7:13AM
If that stacks with other mortal strike abilities (given arms warriors it probably does) then I'm loving it for my disc priest.
Apra Jul 8th 2009 9:47AM
1. It obviously wouldn't stack with 50% MS
2. You have to be in shadowform to apply the 20% MS
