Worgen Garwal hotfixed, now untamable
Our tip lines have been buzzing recently with news about a tameable Worgen. If you haven't been paying attention, in short, Garwal (a quest NPC that starts as a wolf, but turns into a Worgen) could be tamed as a Worgen if you get your timing right, and then you'd have a very unusual pet following you around.
Note that I say "could be tamed," not "can": apparently Blizzard has hotfixed the NPC so that he can no longer be tamed, stating that they never intended players to have a humanoid pet. Players who have already tamed Garwal will find that they have no talents or abilities for him, nor can they feed or buff him rendering him effectively useless except as a vanity pet. I would expect him to be removed even as a vanity pet soon.

Are you really surprised?

New Flash! Post Hoc, Ergo Propter Hoc!
Blizzard didn't remove the pet because people were complaining that they couldn't tame the pet. They removed it because they never intended hunters to have Worgens as pets. If they did, trust us, we would have heard about it.

I wouldn't call it childish and tacky. I want Blizzard to be consistent. IF you (Blizz) don't want the Ghost wolf to be a pet make it untamable and then remove the ones that people have.
If you don't want the slims/hydras to be tamed then remove the ones that have them also.
That being said I think everyone should be able to keep what they have. I have the Sapphire Hive Queens as a pet. You can't tame her no more.

@ Warren
Id like YOU to be consistant.
"IF you (Blizz) don't want the Ghost wolf to be a pet make it untamable and then remove the ones that people have."
Followed by
"That being said I think everyone should be able to keep what they have. I have the Sapphire Hive Queens as a pet. You can't tame her no more."
Just doesnt seem consistant to me. You want blizz to make it untamable and remove the tamed ones, but leave your (now) untamable pet with you.
I dont think you have any right to call for others to be consistant until you can write 3 lines without contradicting yourself.

Warren said what he meant correctly.
He's asking for BLIZZARD to be consistent with what they do with misc. hunter pets. Remove the chance to tame and revoke all pets already tamed, or remove the chance BUT leave the pets.
He then said that he wished they WOULD allow us to keep them, which doesn't change the fact he wants them to have one procedure when dealing with exotic misc. pets.

In before all the predictions that worgen will be the next playable race and that's why Blizz removed these
epsilon343 Jul 7th 2009 5:27PM
I don't know anyone who would've jumped to that conclusion.
Hansbo Jul 7th 2009 5:38PM
epsilon, if I remember correctly, people were being silly and speculated that the ghost wolf which was cunningly tamed by some hunters were removed because blizz was planning to make shamans summon ghost wolves as pets.
....
Oh right.
impurezero Jul 7th 2009 6:17PM
Come on now Epsilon. I've seen you on these comment threads enough times to believe that you must know better. Never put random rampant speculation past the commenters of the world...
...of Warcraft.

"Are people really that childish and tacky?"
Yes. Especially on the internet.
Ah, I miss the internet pre AOL.....
Rihahn Jul 7th 2009 5:55PM
Ahh, the Eternal September concept was *so* right...
Todd Jul 7th 2009 5:18PM
Hunters will be absolutely fine having him as a vanity pet.
Keir Jul 7th 2009 5:20PM
They are right though, the previous pets aka the Slime, weren't supposed to be tameable and were accidentally classified as beasts. They're allowed to keep them after being untameable. If the hunters have this pet removed, surely Blizzard shouldn't have let the Slime etc be kept in the game either.
Alchemistmerlin Jul 7th 2009 5:24PM
Except this is a Humanoid pet, a thinking breathing person, and as such smacks a little too much of slavery.
Barinthos Jul 7th 2009 5:28PM
But this "humanoid pet" started out as a slobbering, quadrupedal beast.
Also, the "slavery" thing is a far cry IMO. There are quests to stab baby monkeys in the face with sticks and stab prisoners with hot iron rods. Also, Warlock pets(Voidwalker) don't seem to want to be brought out of their hole, so wouldn't that also be "slavery" in a sense?
Keir Jul 7th 2009 5:53PM
From a lore point of view, its a Wolf, who got turned into a worgen, so it was a beast to begin with, and ended up being a humanoid beast
Carver Jul 7th 2009 6:14PM
@ Keir
If I remember correctly, he was a Worgen masquerading as a wolf. He says something about ending the charade when he transforms.
impurezero Jul 7th 2009 6:41PM
Slavery? What about that poor draenai who is constantly stuck sitting on your Traveller's Tundra Mammoth? (Folding up to live in your magical pocket when you dismount, I can only assume.)
And what about those Argent Sqires I see running around. CHILD SLAVERY! At least you'd feed your Worgen pet every now and then. Those poor little kids don't even get that. They just have to carry your flagpole and be your "companion" for life.
