Testing of Crusader's Coliseum starts tomorrow
I was just bemoaning that we haven't gotten a chance to see patch 3.2's new raid content yet. It looks like that chance will come sooner than I expected: tomorrow night!
Daelo has just posted a testing schedule for Trial of the Crusader (a.k.a. Crusader's Coliseum).
- North American realms: Lord Jaraxxus, Thursday, July 9, starting at 7 PM EDT
- European realms: Eydis Darkbane and Fjola Lightbane, Thursday, July 9, starting at 19:00 CEST
Both of these fights will be available in normal mode (10 or 25) only, not heroic. The new 5-man, Trial of the Champion, will be open "later in the PTR cycle."
He also notes that Koralon, the new Vault boss, will be up, and you'll be able to access it if your side has Wintergrasp. Tanking and DPS Patchwerks will make a return. Unlike the patch 3.1 PTR tanking Patchwerk, this one just hits really hard ("as hard as Algalon"), all the time (instead of ramping his damage up over time).
Oh, and one more thing: there is, apparently, no trash at all in this raid. Woot?
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. WoW.com will have you covered every step of the way, from extensive PTR coverage through the official live release. Check out WoW.com's Guide to Patch 3.2 for all the latest!

ll I have to to say is that I hope Icecrown is full of tough trash, relly complex boss fights, and content that we'll be able to grind out/ bash our heads against for months, cause this raid is looking like the ultimate casual fest. Oh well, more time to work on hard modes in ulduar?
Drow Jul 9th 2009 9:12AM
Well, maybe. From what I've seen, Collosium loot is a higher ilvl then Ulduar hard modes. The Collosium seems like it will be small and fast to do, so people could go back to Ulduar, but not sure if the loot will be worth it. It surely won't be for casual guilds, since they won't be doing hard mdoe anyway.

"It surely won't be for casual guilds, since they won't be doing hard mdoe anyway."
I'm not sure what you mean by this.
Just because the Colosseum drops a higher ilvl of loot, that doesn't mean it will actually be harder than Ulduar Hard Modes.
By that logic, questing in Northrend would have to be harder than Sunwell Plateau.

im a little confused what they mean by "pathwerks" otherwise hoping to try this with my guild =P we prob wont kill the boss tho (10 man on mimiron)

IIRC, they set up a testing version of Patchwerk, one of the bosses in Naxx, as a way for DPS to check how the patch changes will affect their effectiveness in a raid setting. Think of it as a more realistic target dummy that you can fight as a raid. Patch is widely seen as an excellent DPS check because DPS (especially ranged) just stand there and cast away without worrying about movement, raid damage, or any other mechanics.

While it's true that DPS can check how much DPS they do, the Patchwerk on the 3.1 PTR was also a great tank test. This one will be similar, I'm sure, and can't wait to see what sort of numbers result from testing the DK tank nerfs. I've been of the opinion that they're a little extreme (while understanding that they do need nerfing), so we'll see whether the hard numbers back me up or not.

I do applaud Blizzard giving the US and Europe realms separate fights in the Coliseum [ allows both realms to experience differing content] but it would be nice if we (I'm in Canada) could get another boss instead of 1. Koralon could be seen as 2 for the US realms.. :P
And then notes can be exchanged on how the fights are done on the PTR, until they fix it and eventually have it go live.
@Paizn I think the "Patchwerk" references are how they'll make an appearance again in the live version of 3.2, more than likely in the Coliseum Heroic 25 man version.

I get the impression that Koralon is a tank-and-spank of sorts.
Perhaps I need to read his info again.

I've done it once... I don't 100% know what was going on, but there is a comet-type ability and fire to not be stood in. It's slightly less complex than Emalon, IMO, and doesn't really require much education to be downed.

This has gotten me to try the PTR for the very first time. My curiosity cannot be assuaged any other way.

No trash? Booooo! No random 'hey guys there's and epic on this guy' in vent : /.
themightysven Jul 8th 2009 10:10PM
Who else hopes that there's an epicly Über version of Patchwerk in IceCrown, Optional, but something that people have to be in full 11s to take down. Either that or it's a questgiver in the raid

WOOT!!
Emoroan Jul 9th 2009 1:28AM
No trash could just mean annoying boss fights. There's no trash before Kel'Thuzad and only 2 pulls before Thorim, no trash but yet lots of trash.

"Oh, and one more thing: there is, apparently, no trash at all in this raid. Woot?"
Speaking personally, I like trash pulls. It's boss fights I find dull. Boss fights feel like minigames to me, and I don't like minigames.
On the other hand, I can see that they wouldn't make *any sense at all* in the Colosseum.
Almoderate Jul 9th 2009 10:28AM
I'm reminded of the testing on Ulduar where there were no trash pulls. And then I'm reminded of Ulduar trash when Ulduar went live.
This makes me happy.

This is probably the weirdest comment I've ever seen.

I already did the hard numbers and it comes out that on my DK Erokostiri who is nax 25 and ulduar 10 and some 25 gear not so bad. The end number is a loss of 1825 damage points. By this i mean before the 3.2. patch i was able to take something like 55k damage with health and mitigation combined. As we are not losing any avoidance just HP in this nerf i am now after patch able to only take 53175 damage points before dieing. This really isnt a big deal and the armor downgrade brings us in line with Pally and Warrior tank with shield. MY other two tanks in guild are way behind on hp and armor right now in raid i pull 43k hp they are at about 39-40k, and my armor is about 500-600 points more than theirs after patch.
