The Queue: WoW 4.0

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky will be your host today.
People responded quite well to the Patches of Yesteryear column that I started up yesterday, so I thought for today's Queue I'd use one of the screenshots of the old UI that I dug up on the internet. A few old readers (yes, you're old farts) noted that the UI featured above likely came from an internal alpha build or something way before the beta 4* when WoW went into "public" beta mode. So the above screenshot and yesterday's screenshot are quite old. Possibly as old as 2001 when WoW was first announced.
And for next week's Patches of Yesteryear column we'll either look at how the models have changed or examine a couple dozen talents that have gone through some pretty amazing metamorphosis.
But enough about that old column, time for Queue!
Siaperas asked...
"WoWHead's PTR site lists a heroic achievement titled: "I've Had Worse". The achievement made me giggle a bit; is that really an achievement on the PTR?"

The I've Had Worse achievement from the Patch 3.2 PTR reads:
"Defeat the Black Knight in 10 minutes while wearing all blue items, before 3 Volcanoes erupt, while everyone in the group has at least 1 stack of Spurting Blood and there are no shamans or paladins in the party but before you spend at least 1000 gold in repairs wiping to the Black Knight."
That is basically there to screw with dataminers. There've been a few like that, the kill 1,000,000 Tuskarr's from the beta comes to mind. Of course if you know you're being screwed with it's funny. If you take yourself and life too seriously, it's annoying.
I find it hilarious.
Andrew asked...
"In regards to turning off XP gains, what about hunter pets? Will it turn the pet's XP off too or will they continue to receive XP until they are on your level?"
It appears at this time your pet will function normally, gaining XP to your level and then stopping. It's as if you've reached max level at 29 (or whatever twink level you've decided on). And as Nascair pointed out, a pet cannot level past its master.
Nizari asked...
"What do you think the chances are that we could see a new race that's available to both factions?"
None.
Yazah asked...
"In WoW 4.0, do you think there will be a new profession, and, if so, what would it be? Are there any hints at all?"
I'd be very very surprised if there wasn't. We have no idea what it'll be yet. And anyone who claims to know is lying.
Rylia asked...
"Here's a question: How many 80s (in, say, Naxx/Ulduar gear) does it take to do BC-era 25-man raids?"
It could take as few as 5 (Gruul) or as many as 20 to 25 (Sunwell). While you're going to over power the fights at 80, and can ignore many mechanics simply because they don't cause catastrophic damage anymore, there are plenty of things that do. You still cannot do Sunwell unless you know the fights. You need to know to take the portals, to taunt, to move on the ground, where to stand, where not to stand, etc...
A very good number of 80s have yet to be able to clear that instance because of the complexity of the fights. In my opinion, it's harder than most of Ulduar.
*I believe beta 4 was the first "public" beta build of the original WoW. However, I'm not sure.

It would be nice to see a profession that incorporates skinning. You already have miners and herbies making a boat load of cash for their gathering, but skinners are left in the dark.
Originally in vanilla, skinners encompassed much more than leatherworking in many recipes (certain bags for tailors, weapons for blacksmiths) but that doesn't really seem to be the case anymore.
I'd hope they could have another profession linked to skinning.
A little more love for skinners to complement all the love for herbies and miners would be nice.

The only thing holding them back from doing this I think is that LotRO already has this exact same gathering/crafting profession in their game (sans boat making, that'd be awesome). It's a pretty unique idea and I think a lot of people would say that Blizzard just copied it from them.
On the other hand though, it'd be awesome. the crossover between blacksmithing and woodworking would be amazing. You could make a compound bow using Saronite along the outside of the bow to make it stronger.

@Robert M:
I still need leather for my engineering, and my tailoring, and my leatherworking (duh) and and and...

What 2 new races for Horde and Alliance do you think will make their debut (if any) in the next expansion. I personally see Goblins for Horde and maybe (just maybe) Furlbogs for Alliance.
Goblins could probably be: Warriors, Mages, Warlocks, Hunters (maybe), Rogues and DK's (similar to Gnomes)
Furlbogs could be: Shamen, Warriors, Druids (maybe), Hunters and DK's (similar to Tauren)
Boydboyd Jul 8th 2009 3:40PM
Furbolgs? Hmm, I guess that's a good possibility. It's more probable and possible than when folks suggest Worgen.
Goblins? They're notoriously neutral. If anything, Undermine will be introduced at some point, but I am willing to say that playable Goblins will never be a reality.
Jason Jul 8th 2009 4:11PM
IF there were new races, would there be DK's as the source of the DK, the lich king will be dead? Not sure on this, anyone?
yunkndatwunk Jul 8th 2009 5:27PM
Goblins wouldn't want to belong to one faction, there's far too much gold to make pitting us against each other.
impurezero Jul 8th 2009 5:42PM
What better way to pit us against eachother than to send Goblins into both factions to ensure that we keep squabbling?
That could be part of the initial Goblin questline!
Grimmi Jul 8th 2009 7:32PM
Some goblins have held the belief that siding exclusively with the horde can be profitable due to their destructive nature of many of the involved races.
Rakah Jul 12th 2009 7:04AM
It wouldn't be too hard for goblins to side with horde, just have gnomes attack some goblins. :)
Naix Jul 8th 2009 3:34PM
Do you think that Alliance and Horde are going to join forces to vanquish the Lich King? These in game clip videos seem to be pointing us in that direction.
Neirin Jul 8th 2009 3:58PM
I'm guessing it'll be a little like Hyjal where they're both helping, but separate. I very much doubt we'll see King Wyrnn and Hellscream cooperating, though I suppose Thrall/Jaina is a combo that WoW lore has been begging to happen for ages.
ObiChad Jul 8th 2009 3:34PM
Regarding BC raiding while geared at 80, I'm fairly certain people are 10 manning Hyjal. Haven't heard anything about SSC/TK or BT.

Question:
You're in a heroic. You are healing on a toon that is 425 inscription. A book of glyph mastery drops. No one else in the group is a scribe. Should you be expected to need, or greed the item (assuming you have not learned all 50 books yet)?
Essentially books of glyph mastery are "patterns" for a scribe.
Is it ok to need?
Naix Jul 8th 2009 3:38PM
I am going to fall back to the loot server rules of my realm.
Need all BOEs
Need what you need
Greed the rest
Cyrus Jul 8th 2009 3:52PM
I'd say it's OK to roll need. Be reasonable about it and all that, etc.
"I am going to fall back to the loot server rules of my realm.
Need all BOEs"
Huh, on my server that would get people pretty pissed off at you. Greed BOEs unless it's an upgrade over what you're wearing now, I'd say, in which case you roll need. Crafting materials like Frozen Orbs aren't a good enough reason to roll need unless the group has specifically said so in advance; anyone could use them for *some*thing, so a person who happens to have an item they want to make right then isn't special.
Naix Jul 8th 2009 3:59PM
It's not me that loots this way. The entire server has been loot rolling like this for 3+ years. I don't think I have ever been in a group that had not rolled this way on loot.
yunkndatwunk Jul 8th 2009 5:33PM
you are the only one who even sees the drop, just like recipes.
kia Jul 8th 2009 9:07PM
Naix: is that Blackrock or Barthilas that you're on? I know one of those servers has the "need all BOEs" rule.
Adam H. Jul 8th 2009 11:55PM
@yunkndatwunk, actually that is incorrect, unlike JC designs, Books of Glyph mastery can be rolled upon by anyone in the party, similar to Damaged Necklaces should they drop.
