Ancilorn reveals extended EU maintenance next week
European CM Ancilorn has revealed that, for next week's EU maintenance, some of the realms will be offline for a whopping fourteen hours. The Blue was keen to ensure players were given enough warning of 15th July's maintenance to make sure that players who have toons on the affected realms had an "opportunity to plan accordingly".The affected realms are: Balnazzar, Bloodfeather, Darksorrow, Defias Brotherhood, Earthen Ring, Frostwhisper, Genjuros, Haomarush, Hellscream, Laughing Skull, Lightning's Blade, Magtheridon, Neptulon, Nordrassil, Quel'Thalas, Ragnaros, Ravencrest, Runetotem, Shadowmoon, Shadowsong, Shattered Hand, Silvermoon, Skullcrusher, Spinebreaker, Stormrage, Stormreaver, Stormscale, Sylvanas, Terenas, The Maelstrom, The Venture Co, Thunderhorn, Turalyon, Twisting Nether and Vashj.
While the problem seems to be specific to these realms, Ancilorn didn't elaborate on the precise reasons for the extensive maintenance. He only informed readers that these realms will be offline from 3:00am CEST until around 5:00pm CEST. I suggest this might be a very good time to explore the opposite faction on another server, roll a twink or level that long-neglected alt. We'll certainly keep you updated next week and hopefully the maintenance should run smoothly.

:(
14 hours is not a small amount of time - any news if they'll grant us a free day in return?
I still think they owe me a day that time when Login servers were down (who's counting?). Ruined my night :S
Also, how come this isn't posted on the official forums? (and if it is, how come it isn't linked in the article >.

You should count yourself lucky. The Retaliation battlegroup has had several issues in the last few weeks with extended maintenance windows and unplanned server crashes.
I'd take 15 hours planned down time over unplanned server crashes any day.
Just cross your fingers that this doesn't happen to you =)

As a matter of fact, the retaliation battlegroup is down AGAIN right now.

@ Jinx - "I still think they owe me a day that time when Login servers were down (who's counting?). Ruined my night :S" I think i speak for all of us when i say it's just a game, and i'm almost 100% sure you could have done something other than WoW that night

I like how your first reaction to a 14-hour downtime is to roll a new alt on a different server rather than just take the day off. I understand that everyone needs their daily WoW fix, as do I, but really if I saw that downtime I'd just walk out the door and go do something for once, not play some low level toon.

No, please don't flood unaffected realms with throwaway alts. Take the chance to venture outside, live a little.

Roll a twink or level that neglected alt
hmm... usually the twink is on the same realm as the main, which is on that shut-down realm..... and most people I know also make alts on the same realm...

3am to 10am your sleeping or on your way to work
If your sleeping. Get up and go workout/clean the house/learn something new
If your on your way to work. Go out to dinner on the way home/go workout/stop by and get a coffee or beer

The Venture Co has had some serious lag spike issues for about 3 weeks now. That's probably what they're going to fix.

Earthen Ring and The Maelstrom both out... What's the chance this is the entire cyclone battlegroup? These are the oldest and crappiest of all WoW servers in Europe, whenever there's a planned shutdown, these realms are last to come back up. When there's a patch, these realms crash the most, and so on.
Personally I'd have moved off ER long ago, except I've got too many toons there now, plus a guild vault with all tabs purchased, so it's not economically feasible anymore to pull up my roots and move (neither from real-world or in-game perspective)...

Looks like Cyclone to me - I recognise a stack of those realms from facing horde premades in various BGs in the past. It became second nature to check the opposition when entering a BG, mentally groan and prepare for a disaster if players from certain realms were in the majority.

I once wandered onto the EU forum by accident and wondered who this "Ancilorn" guy was and how he managed to take over the forums with a polar bear. Then I realized I was on the wrong forum and went back to the comforting images of a fel reaper and a flaming skull thing.

Nordrassil, ofcourse.

Yay Ravenholdt not on the list ^^

It's the Cyclone, Conviction and Rampage battlegroups.

It's meant to be over now (not the extended maintenance), but I still can't log in :(
