"Because the Druid is capable of playing each of the game's four roles, you should realistically expect to tank or heal at some point -- or at least get pestered about it. It's fine if you have no desire to do so,"
This really isn't true if you're feral. There's only one talent that's essential for non-raid feral tanking (Survival of the Fittest), it only takes three points to max it out, you can do it as early as level 37 and it has at least some use in all forms. It takes a tiny tiny investment and it gives a lot back. It's the least you can do for your fellow WoW players and to uphold the reputation of your class and all that.
In other words, if you don't want to tank, don't be feral.
For what it's worth, I was feral leveling to 60 (hit 60 around the time AQ was released), went resto for raids soon after hitting 60, and went back to feral all through BC when it became viable for end-game tanking. Fun stuff. Tanking was hard but in a good way because I knew I was *earning* those drops and those boss kills and stuff, and in the meantime I was as good at soloing as anyone.
Now I'm boomkin. Respecced just before WotLK. Typhoon! Knockback - along with just a handful of other spells, the only similar effect in the game - awesome! No regrets. I can heal well enough for a 5-man regular, or for a 5-man heroic if I really want to go OOM and bite my nails all the time, without even respeccing, and of course as of 3.1 healing in tree form is just a matter of not deleting caster gear when I got balance-preferred gear later. Good times.

What's your point? I was responding to Allison saying that you'd be asked to tank or heal *at some point*. Do you always dps and never tank, not for 5-mans or anything? Unless that's so, then what are you disagreeing with me about?

Maybe for 5 you can get away with that but not anything harder, the bear talents are pretty essential unless the rest of your group is already overgeared.
Howver, the trinity problems are at the core of the game and affect every class. Even the single activity dpssers are affected, because there are so many of them they are easily replaceable.
