Stars' Alone in the Darkness videos
Taiwanese/Chinese guild Stars made a splash recently by nabbing the legitimate world-first kill of Yogg-Saron with no Watchers assisting them, granting them the elusive Alone in the Darkness achievement. Many sites and theorycrafters, including seminal calculus-required favorites ElitistJerks, said the fight was simply impossible at current gear levels and fight tuning, and Stars admits that their kill was based more on raid stacking and good luck than anything, but it's still an enormous accomplishment after the fiasco that was Exodus' kill.

Love all the Chinese talk, and then "@#$K YEAH!" at the end. Lol.
Nintendwarf Jul 10th 2009 10:59PM
I think that's Japanese.

oops, ignore the reply, I messed up.

I'm a bilingual English/Chinese speaker, and a rough translation of what's said just before Yogg-Saron goes down is basically "he's got 20k health left, you guys can do it!"

Hehe yea.. but congrats to them, they worked hard and got their awesome reward for it.

Flock of Seagulls music choice is full of win!

I don't usually watch raid videos, but after seeing this comment and apparently The Flock being used on it, I just had to.
Not disappointed, head bobbing for the next 5 hours will commence.

For anyone else who hates crappy youtube wow videos, I recommend you download the hq version. It's nearly 1gb but worth it. Too bad it doesn't show too much of the add control, which is the most interesting/controversial part of the fight.

"The Right Way to Paly WOW." Indeed.

Inb4 Ensidia hate.
Also, EJ never really called it impossible. Ensidia did, but most of the folks at EJ felt that it was doable with some stacking.

Tip: Right click the video and choose "Watch on Youtube", then play it in HD quality.
Congrats to Stars for an amazing accomplishment.

I think all boss fights would be more full of win with "Beat It" playing in the background :)

Warmed my heart as an affliction lock. Even more so to see another affliction lock, in one of the best raiding guilds in the world, using a fairly stock UI. Always interesting to see how other locks manage dot/spell timers; ButtonTimers from the looks of it and the stock spell casting UI (no Quartz!) to boot.

That stock UI amazed me. I haven't been able to raid with it since early BC when I discovered XPerl and what is now Dominos.

i'm not much for watching guild raid strategy vids, but i was really impressed by their splash intro

Dude, elitistjerks didn't say it was impossible. it's not even clear what it would mean for a forum to say something is impossible. Ensidia said they said that, but they didn't. Many of the posters on EJ acknowledged it was possible and have said they were very close to a kill before Stars' kill.

What is the song playing in the first video called?
"I just run, I run so far away" That one. That remix was amazing, if it is a remix.
Valos Jul 11th 2009 3:39AM
It's a remix of Duran Duran's I Ran
uncaringbear Jul 11th 2009 3:54AM
No, no, not Duran Duran! It's a remix of Flock of Seagull's song of the same name.
Chernabog Jul 11th 2009 8:50AM
While Flock of Seagulls did sing the original "I Ran," that particular remix is by Darude.
