Breakfast Topic: Excited about the new 5-man?

We were a bit surprised to discover that each boss in the Normal version of the instance drops one or more very well-itemized item level 200 epics (heroics/Naxx 10-level gear) and the Heroic version drops item level 213 epics (Naxx 25-level gear, non-Sapph/KT), as shown in our loot gallery. And this is on top of the healthy number of Conquest badges and Champion's Seals you get for running it!
If things stay the way they are, this instance will be the absolute best place to gear out your fresh-to-80 alts, a godsend for those who need shards, and an amazing source of Conquest badges and Champion's Seals for those desiring specific rewards.
With this information in mind, are you looking forward to the Trial of the Champion? Were you already? Does the new information about drops help sway you? After seeing pictures and video of my shaman in action, Is your only point of contention not being able to run the instance with me personally? I'm sorry, ladies, there's only so much of me to go around here.
Patch 3.2 will bring about a new 5, 10, and 25 man instance to WoW, and usher in a new 40-man battleground called the Isle of Conquest. WoW.com will have you covered every step of the way, from extensive PTR coverage through the official live release. Also No, I'm very excited about Champions Online however.

You'd think they had learned from the fact that hardly anyone does Occulus, due to stupid vehicle crap.
You'd think they had learned from the fact that everyone hates Malygos, due to vehicle crap.
You'd think they'd learned from how most people are increasingly getting bored through the FL part of Ulduar, after the novelty of one-button spamming vehicle crap.
But no.... They go ahead and make a new instance dependent on even more retarded and annoing vehicle mechanic.
I think there is some serious internal prestige involved in this persistence on forcing the players to do vehicle stuff, even though a huge segment of the player bases thoroughly HATES it.
This prestige stubborness is ruining the game for many, and plays a part in how WoW player base is being eroded. If they persist into Maelstrom, there is going to be some serious loss of players.

Well they like to fling about 'for the good of the game' and 'our vision' a lot. Frankly, until they start losing a few million players, it doesn't much matter what they do. All the bosses in the new instance could be dancing bears with bow ties whose dances you have to imitate perfectly to beat them, and its likely Blizz would just shrug away any comments and trot out one of their favorite phrases.
The problem is that Blizz's subscription base is too big. It is so big that:
1. There will always be players who hate any change.
2. There will always be players who love any change.
3. There will always be players who want no change.
4. There will always be players...
The number of players is so large that there will pretty much always be every opinion, plus there are just so many players that it is unlikely that any one change or series of changes will cause a majority to quit. Even so, that would likely only be high-level players, who have played the game for a while and know how it works, for newer players a change comes along and they just adapt, since they are new to the game anyway. Blizzard is pretty safe in doing pretty much whatever they please with WoW.

Hell yeah I'm excited! I'm pretty good at jousting so this is nothing but good news to me.
Kironeya Jul 11th 2009 4:32PM
Too bad you're going to find it hard to get groups becuase so many others hate it - especially healers for whom the mechanic is as far as possible from the playstyle they've chosen.
I'm sure a lot of people will be running it for the first few days, but unless the jousting bit is completely trivial, people (especially healers) will shun it just like they do Occulus.
Letharginator Jul 11th 2009 11:47PM
By that logic, no one would be running the jousting dailies anymore. I'm gonna bet that the lure of easy purples and seals will be more than enough to get people to run the first new five man content since the expansion hit.

I am very excited.
Due to my schedule I can not often make raids outside of Wintergrasp, and the current dungeons were getting stale.
I think I can tank Gundrak with my eyes closed at this point.
Agerath Jul 11th 2009 8:55AM
Not really. I'm not excited about PvE in 3.2 at all.
Ulduar is a fantastic raid and my guild is only at Vezax, so to give this up in favour of some crappy raid in a single room that drops identical-looking gear and never see yoggy go down is extremely frustrating to me.
volicio Jul 11th 2009 9:05AM
ah, but you fail to see the beauty in this. you can hit that single room every day for a few weeks, and then you'll be seeing 25man yoggy in side a few months
Agerath Jul 11th 2009 9:11AM
I never downed C'Thun either, yet I could go and do it now. I'm not interested in downing yoggy once he becomes obsolete content.
What I am saying is that the first genuinely fun and superbly designed raid in quite a while is being superceded in terms of relevance by a gimmick that takes place in a single room.

Hard mode weapons. If you're a 10 man progression guild, you're going to continue running ulduar because ulduar hard mode weapons are very high quality - better than the normal mode coliseum weapons. Now, if you do both 10 and 25 man, you might not go back to the 10 man, but you're still probably going to run the 25 man then for the legendary mace shards for your healers. So in some form, you're going to continue doing ulduar if you want to progress through the coliseum - and on hard mode you move through one boss at a time with a limited 50 attempts for the instance, so you're not going to be spending all week there either.

I'm pretty 'meh' about the 5-man. The only thing that piques my interest is that sweet +126 stamina trinket.
It's also my opinion that whoever designed the jousting system needs a light but firm slap on the back of their head.
Clydtsdk-Rivendare Jul 11th 2009 9:28AM
I'd think a "Could-have-had-a-V8" facepalm would be more effective.
Mistat Jul 11th 2009 10:13AM
Where did you see this trinket? I can't find anything like it on MMO champion or WoWHead

that trinket looks too good!
finally be able to get rid of some blues

I'm really happy about the gear it drops in there as i'm currenlty lvling a new arms/prot warrior and this will make for an easy transition into raiding. However, i do have 1 concern about the way the new emblems of Conquest (used for Ulduar lvl gear) seem to be dropping in normal and heroic versions. In essence you seem to be able to farm the normal mode continueously for 3 of the emblems and 3 of the tokens for the Argent Crusade event.
Puntable Jul 11th 2009 10:00AM
Emblems have never dropped in non-heroic dungeons. I predict that this part is unintended and will not make it to live. Being able to farm Conquest emblems in a dungeon with no trash mobs and no lockout would be ridiculous.
