It's one of the first choices you make when you start to play: Alliance or Horde? Horde or Alliance? Orcs or Elves? From thence forward, your entire gaming experience is defined by this decision. So -- which way did you choose? Do you fight for the glory of the Alliance? Or for the honor of the Horde? And whatever you chose... why? Did a particular race appeal to you? Were you joining friends? Do tell!

I really wanted to give shaman a try since I installed WoW, but my love for the gnomes from the RTS made it impossible, and then things escalated from there and I never played a Hordie because of the ability to bankroll my alts.

It's a decision I regret, oh why was I so enticed by the little footballs that could?

I gotta admit -- if I played Alliance mainly, I'd be pretty tempted to have a Gnome DK, simply because that's hilarious.

Same here, if it can be a gnome, I have it. (Warlock, mage, warrior, rogue, deathknight) So I stuck with alliance.

I found the forsaken quests repulsive, I found the blood elf quests boring (though didn't get far, Draenei was better imo) Orcs and trolls were boring and thugish, and tauren seem just simplistic idiots, really. Some idealistic hippy tribe that lacks the depth I'd like.

Also, Horde are the whiniest races ever. They wallow in everything. ("Lets not clean up Undercity, because we are Forsaken, ooooooh, cockroachs, emo, love me!")

I think there is some interesting troll/ orc stuff later on I'd like to see, I rolled a troll dk on another server to explore it without having to put up with the starter stuff again, but haven't done much.

Dude, if you think the tauren is an idealistic hippy tribe full of idiots, you obviously haven't played Tauren for longer than a minute. Big != stupid.

Racially Insensitive Jokes about Gnomes
1: Q: Who would win in a fight, a gnome... or another gnome?
A: Whichever one gets punted by the tauren second.

2: Q: Why was the gnome kicked out of the tavern?
A: Because it's just so dang fun.

3: A gnome walks into a tavern, buys a bottle of Pinot Noir, drinks it, and becomes instantly smashed.

4: Sign outside a local tavern: No cats, no dogs, no demons, no ghouls, no gnomes.

5: A gnome and a dwarf priest are walking down the street. The gnome enters a bar and the dwarf leaves him there to die.

6: Two people walk into a tavern. One is a gnome and the other is a human enchanter who can't make any money either.

7: Two gnomes get married. The wife cheats on her husband everyday, but can't find anyone to love her either.

17: A human, a nightelf, a dwarf and a gnome are riding on a Mommoth through the Barrens. The human takes his bag full of pumpkins and dumps it onto the road. "Why did you do that?" asks the Nightelf.
"We have so many of these at home," replied the human, "thats I'm sick of looking at them." A few minutes later the Nightelf takes his bag full of Moonwell water and pours it out onto the road.

24: A group of Hordies raids Stormwind City and startes killing all the gnomes. No one fights back.

25: Q. Why do gnomes have so much hair?
A. to cushion the landing after they've been punted.

26: Q. Why can't gnomes ever go Trick or Treating?
A. They look so disturbing all the time the innkeepers think they've recently been tricked.

27: During the feast of Hallows end, a gnome tricks-or-treats at the inn and gets turned into a human. Just then he sees a dog attacking a child. He runs up, wrestles the dog to the ground, and sends it running. A local reporter sees this and says, "That was amazing! Tomorrow's headline will read 'Brave Stormwind Citizen Rescues Child from Vicious Dog'"
"Oh, but I'm not from here." replies the gnome.
"Then it will read 'Azerothian Human Rescues Child from Vicious Dog'"
The gnome takes off his disguise and says, "But I'm a gnome."
"Then," grumbles the reporter, "it will read 'Gnome Kills Family Pet'"

28: If you don't get any of these jokes, you're probably a gnome.

Many gnomes might take offence to such racist jokes to their kind. To that I have to say "WHO CARES? YOU'RE A BLASTED GNOME!"

I have a bit of both, but I prefer the Alliance.

Grab a sword and fight the Horde!

That's not really as catchy as "For the Horde" though. My Alliance catchphrase is a Totemly Cool quote.

I started playing Horde 3 years ago to join friends who already played. I liked Alliance at first but then came to love Tauren.

I started Alliance since that's where my friends were. I stayed there because they look better (if you are going to be looking at your character a lot, you may as well like what you are looking at) and their racials are better. It was a simple choice for me; I'm a druid, and I like the Night Elf racials better than the Tauren ones. People like to complain about the alliance being immature and filled with bad players, but my level 80 experiences have been good for the most part.

My ex-boyfriend chose for me really, but since I've been playing for almost a year now I have NO desire to even attempt playing a Horde as I have nothing but pure hatred for them, haha.

Granted as a big pvper there are times that I really, really hate Alliance (really guys, why is it so hard for you to protect your healers and defend the damn flags??)....I would never roll a Horde or make the switch when it becomes available.

Rolled an Human Mage to play at first, haven't looked back. I still play the same character I played since day one. Even though I haven't played WoW in a fair while since RL is in the way atm. It's a good thing there's blogs like this one to keep me up to date with WoW happenings so I'm not in the dark when I eventually go back.

My first character was a Night Elf hunter.. and I don't even remember why I choose the Alliance.
From there on, I only had serious Alliance characters.
Tried to make some Horde ones, but somehow stopped levelling around level 20. It's a shame, because I would gladly play "the other face of WoW".. dunno.
I really like Taurens and Trolls tho.. and as someone else above stated, the Taurens are really the only pure good race.

When I started playing wow, I didnt, even for a second, considered Horde. When BC hit, I wanted to see how the BE looks, so I started an alt on a different server, and quickly fell in love with Horde. Since that, I abandoned by NE Druid at lvl70. I just started to play her again Saturday, and plan on leveling her to 80, and then trasfer so she becomes a big Tauren he :). I think Horde races look awesome, maybe except for the undeath, but even that can be done well. I absolutely loved my Night elf before BC (then I think it was the best looking race), but Bloodelves and Draenei look sooo much more detailed, they move more graciously.
I would love to see Blizzard rewamp the old races a little. Like they do now with druid forms. I think Taurens are good, but orcs / humans, etc. could appreciate some love so they are not so 'square'-y.

Started with ally (for friends) rerolled horde (for friends) came back to ally (for friends) just came back to horde (for boyfriend).

I'm a floater... it's great because the experience changes in big and little ways questing wise... although I do have a week or so where I'm death running into ally camps because I needed a repair >.

Seriously though, my girlfriend got me into WoW and she told me "If you don't pick Horde, this relationship will NOT work." Of course she was joking but still...Really she was...eheheheh...

Anyways, I don't find any of the Ally races interesting at all. Humans are boring, dwarves are okay, I have an intense hate of gnomes, night elves eh, and draenei are pretty much inconsequential to me.

Sure, the Horde ain't pretty (with the obvious exception of Blood Elves) but who cares? And I've always found the "bad guy" more interesting anyways.
