Ensidia and Method to compete in Ulduar timed run
Live PvP competition is old hat. 2009 appears to be the year of PvE (if you ask me, every year should be that year). At the Games Convention Online, in Leipzig over the weekend of July 31 – August 2, two of the strongest PvE guilds in the world, Ensidia and Method, are competing in a timed run of Ulduar.
It's going to be on 10-man, which is kind of strange, given that most people (and especially hardcore raiders) seem to think of the 25-man version as the "real" version of the raid. Maybe they wanted it to be easier for spectators to follow the action.
Points will be awarded for killing end bosses of a "zone" faster than the other guild, with points increasing from zone to zone. I'm guessing that by "zone" the press release refers to the Siege, the Antechamber, the Keepers, and the Descent into Madness, but the translation is not perfect - I could be wrong.
The Ensidia/Method matchup is going to be on August 2nd; as a prelude, two German guilds (Irae AoD and For the Horde) are going to compete on the same event on August 1st. Apparently the raids will be streaming live on allvatar.com, although I can't really get very far on that site - WTB English translation. Does anyone know if it will be free to watch or not?

I agree. No one cares about has-been, irrelevant guilds. How about some real competition?

Ridiculous!
I closed that page because of the fish, from what I remember from "Guide to the galaxy" the babelfish was a worm creature of some sort, I could be wrong but I stand by my rash-ness (is that a word?).
Arbitor Jul 14th 2009 7:05PM
No spellstealing this time!
Cowdungus Jul 14th 2009 7:06PM
lmfao.
Timed runs when it's not even hardmode? whats the point? It's hilarious that they are "competing" in runs that they don't even care about in the first place.
Chris M Jul 14th 2009 8:39PM
Yea, I was about to say the same thing. What's the point in a timed non-hardmode run? They'd breeze through normal mode, 10-man so fast it's not even worth timing it...

And I thought WoW PvP as an E-Sport was a stupid idea
Evaline Jul 14th 2009 7:08PM
I guess they're not doing hardmodes? Kind of a boring concept if you ask me, a bunch of overgeared people nuking their way through normal ulduar.

I would love to see guilds with funny names have world firsts and such too. I can imagine WoW.com reporting: "'Lucky Star Fan Club' world first Arthas kill!".
Engerz Jul 14th 2009 7:13PM
And I know this article doesn't have anything to do with first kills, but that's why I added "and such". In this case, the spotlight of entering a competition such as this.
Lemons Jul 15th 2009 2:03AM
I'm with ya there, it would be awesome to see a guild with a stupid name get a world first...the more ridiculous the guild name the better.
" grabs world first Arthas kill!"...that would be epic...
I do remember that some guild called did some sort of world first once, but now I honestly can't remember what it was. They actually play on my battlegroup :P

@Lemon: Whoops, you gotta watch those <> symbols.

Here's the relevant info summed up in english.
The details on the Battle of the Best are in the second-last paragraph. Basically the contest is about clearing each Ulduar-zone faster than the competing guild. After each zones endboss, points are awarded for the guild that cleared faster, with each consecutive zone awarding more points than the previous one.
That's it. No hardmodes, no further strings attached. Doesn't soudn too spectacular.

I've been setting up an event like this with my guild.
Rules:
1) teams will consist of 1 attacker, and one watcher.
2) watchers can not help out in anyway what so ever(no buffs, attacking, buffs by assciation, ect.)
3) first one to do a full clear of the chosen level 40-60 instance will win their choice of 1000g or the sole use of an empty gbank tab for a period of no long than 6 months.
our first run will be in scholomance, ^_^
