Jay Mohr will return at BlizzCon 2009

This year's BlizzCon promises to be big. The WoW.com staff is pretty much all in agreement that we'll have to hear something about the next expansion, and the recent trademark registration of Cataclysm really lends a lot of credence to that.
Of course perhaps the best part of BlizzCon is the costumes. After all, who doesn't want to see a pirate girl, two demons girls giving a kiss to a surprised kid, a turtle mount?
[Thanks to Sean Bryant for the original tip!]
BlizzCon 2009 is coming up on August 21st and 22nd! We've got all the latest news and information. At BlizzCon you can play the latest games, meet your guildmates, and ask the developers your questions. Plus, there's some great looking costumes.Filed under: News items, BlizzCon

while everyone seems confident that Cataclysm is referring to the next expansion, there are two other possibilities.
1) It could be the next MMO Blizzard has been working on ( its time to announce )
2) It may also be related somehow to the WoW movie
Until Blizzcon and the announcement, these remain contenders

Cataclysm will be the next expansion announced at Blizzcon next month. 100% sure

Let's hope this time he'll actually have played some of Blizzard's games by the time the event is held.

Love the Jay Mohr on Opie and Anthony.

lol @ http://www.wow.com/gallery/blizzcon-2008-costumes/1091149/ though, sorta looks like Mr. T put on weight and had too many blueberries.

To the first poster:
In NO way will tere be any news about the new MMO from Blizzard.
Way too early. You can't hype a product for more than 2 years.
And the new MMO is for 2012 something (if that early) I guess around 2014.

Please tell me that was sarchasm. They've been hyping Diablo III and Starcraft II for around 2 years now.

So how was Jay Mohr last year? Was he annoying? Funny? Actually had some interest in the subject matter? I completely forgot =P. I hope that he was good and that his reappearance will be a nice bonus for the show. It's always cool when the "celeb guest host" actually wants to be there.
For some reason I keep thinking of how awful Jamie Kennedy was at E3 a few years ago... totally worth looking up on YouTube if you enjoy cringe-worthy awkwardness.
Mike Jul 14th 2009 9:53AM
In the videos I've seen, he looked completely out of place.
I don't think he has a clue what WoW is. I have no idea why they use him in the show. He must be desperate for cash and not charge much.
Tinwhisker Jul 14th 2009 10:19AM
Jay did fairly well but it was pretty obvious he wasn't into WoW like most of us are. The reality of things though is that it would be difficult to find a good host who was.
I think Blizzard picks him because he's pretty funny, a good host and pretty fast on his feet. His lack of WoW experience hurts in some respects but isn't really crippling to his duties as a host. In fact, it may be slightly appealing. I mean c'mon, do you really want "barrens chat" coming from your event host? I for one have heard enough about Chuck Norris.
Zach Jul 14th 2009 10:19AM
Aw... too bad. =(
Maybe the audience will have fun mocking him at least.
G Jul 14th 2009 11:28AM
He was good in 2007. I only remember one real flub mispronunciation, and the audience called him out immediately. He was a great sport about it. Like Tinwhisker says, someone with both deep knowledge of all things Blizzard and top-notch MC abilities is probably rare to nonexistent.

I thought he was terrible at the '07 Blizzcon. After he told the audience to go back to their rooms and drive traffic to his blog, he nearly got heckled off the stage. He did a lot better last year. He was pretty funny during the costume contest. I think he's finally got the crowd figured out.
EZ Jul 14th 2009 12:54PM
doing a comedy routine for a crowd full of WoW nerds would be my worst nightmare. Judging by how nit-picky and elitist most players are, trying to perform a comedy act when you have some schlub heckling you for pronouncing something wrong does not sound fun. Although, last year he was funny - he seemed comfortable with the fact that he wasn't a WoW-guru, and he did a good job taking jabs at himself & the audience. They must pay him good, because it can't be easy performing for a Blizzcon audience.
I hope they have Patton Oswalt back again. I thought that guy was hilarious, and he was a big-time D&D geek so I think he jived well with the audience.

I agree with EZ 100% here. Hell, just look at when wow.com linked to a simple Onion parody of raid leaders recently. The comment section was immediately inundated with what basically amounted to "there's not enough realism in this parody so it sucks."
I kept imagining a bunch of clones of Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons interjecting, "Um, hello...Zul'Aman is so totally last expansion. And I scoff at your attempts at simulating in-game lingo. Please check your sources before attempting to make a joke, thank you."
Who cares if Jay Mohr has ever played WoW in his life? Who cares if he looks at MCing a convention as "a job." Guess what? It is!
To people who just don't think his sets are funny, fine...that's a perfectly legitimate complaint. To whine that he doesn't seem to know enough about the product, though, is just asinine.
mirilene Jul 14th 2009 10:55AM
At this point, he's kind of a tradition. He was very funny at every blizzcon as far as im concerned and was no more out of place than the insomnia guy or Patton Oswald, who while claiming to be a video game guy easily spent half the act making fun of "gamers".
Let us not forget, Jay hoised Frostmourne into the air and decreed we march on disneyland and raze it to the ground. I think he "gets" wow just fine :)
Guyledouche Jul 14th 2009 12:03PM
I agree with you Mirilene. He did just fine and seemed to enjoy us heckling him. Patton Oswald could have been funnier in my opinion.
Dulock Jul 15th 2009 9:33PM
I would have to agree with both of you
