BlizzCon creative contests open for entries
Attention aspiring artist, songwriters, and machinimators: want to win an awesome Alienware laptop? Sure you do. Well, here's your chance. Blizzard is holding three creative contests at BlizzCon this summer: best fan art, best original song, and best movie using WoW footage (i.e. machinima).
Entrants in each category have until July 31 to submit their best work. Various countries and localities around the world are eligible, although not all; this is due to legal issues, and not Blizzard hating Italians and residents of Vermont (which Alex claims are called "Vermites").
For the full rules, see Blizzard's contest page, but the general guidelines for submissions are as follows:
- Art must be high-res Photoshop files.
- Movies must be under three minutes and 100 MB, and should be WMVs, AVIs, or MOVs. Music must be either by the entrant or by Blizzard.
- Songs must be MP3s under 2 minute and 5 MB. Lyrics (if any) should be without profanity, in English, Spanish, French, German, Korean, or Chinese, and if not in English, must come with a written English translation.
For second place in each category, Blizzard will be awarding some Razer equipment, and third place will get an unspecified NVIDIA video card. The top two winners in the Movie contest also each get a copy of Adobe CS4, which is pretty sweet. So get creating!

Sorry about the upcoming rant, but something bothers me about the eligibility requirements. :\
Art /must/ be in Photoshop format? I'm sure not all artists can afford Photoshop ($700), especially hobby artists.
None of the other mediums require several hundred dollars of equipment/software to even be /eligible/. Movies should be required to be submitted in Final Cut Pro format and music in Logic Studio Pro format if that's the case...
I mean, even the prize is a copy of Photoshop (granted, with the rest of the suite). Why would they need that as a prize if they already have it?
Sorry again if it's off-topic. Just thought it had to be said. :\

Photoshop Elements is available for around $50 on Amazon, and students can get a full version of Photoshop for around $200.
Also, free trials do exist, so if you're strapped for cash but want to submit, just download that and be sure to finish the project within the next 30 days.
I work in Photoshop and I only have CS3, so I'd LOVE to get CS4 as a prize. A free upgrade? Hells ya.

Or you can just use GIMP. It's free and you can save the files as photoshop images.

@Kelowa- " be sure to finish the project within the next 30 days".
I'd hope so, seeing how the deadline is on the 31st of July...

Um...not so much.
Anyhow, back to the actual topic at hand. Not much to say other than woot for the extended deadline! I might actually have a song done this year!
