Time is Money: Capitalizing on Patch 3.2
Kebina Trudough here, offering you the best gold making secrets they don't want you to know about! I was like you once, poor and homely, before I discovered my patented system. Now you too can fill your pockets with the good stuff without ever breaking a sweat! Why spend all your time toiling when you could be vacationing in the Hot Springs? I'm not offering these tips for 100 gold, or 90 gold, or even 50 gold! No, not even 20 gold! My system is yours for FREE! Satisfaction guaranteed or I'll give you a full refund (handling charges may apply).New patches always bring unique and often limited-time-only opportunities to cash in. To take advantage of them you have to be aware, come prepared, and be willing to invest in anything from materials to spending some quality time with the Auction House.
So what can you get out of patch 3.2? Scanning through the latest PTR notes, here are some potential gold-making highlights. Remember, results may vary:
Glyphs
Strangulate, a Death Knight ranged ability that silences, will soon also apply a 3 second Interrupt effect on non-player controlled targets (read: not for PvP). While a few other abilities are also getting this buff, you might note that there is actually a Glyph of Strangulate, which skims 20 seconds off its cooldown.
Considering how many fights depend on the tank and DPS to constantly be interrupting effects (General Vezax anyone?), this particular glyph might become more popular.
Frustrated Paladins everywhere probably have dropped Glyph of Exorcism from their PvP specs, but with 3.2 making it usable on players again, they may be wanting it back.
Glyph of Claw is being added to the game, and you can expect pretty much all ferals pre-level 50 (when they train Mangle) to pick it up. Although you won't be able to make this pre-patch, you could farm the materials.
Engineering
Because potions are being changed to stack to 20, potion injectors will no longer be of any use to the general public, so I recommend trying to sell any that you do have. It's the last chance for profit, and of course, you can make more for yourself later (they will still be useful to you) when they reduce the materials with the patch.
Fishing
Now is the time to level your Fishing. Get to at least 300 skill, but max it out if you can. There are plenty of other gold-making reasons to do this, and the patch will be adding yet another one. When you complete the Northrend Fishing daily quests, and have min 300 skill, you may find a Waterlogged Recipe in amongst your rewards.
When turned in, you will get several Dalaran Cooking Awards. Why do you care? Because you can sell the books to achievement junkies and cooking enthusiasts who want the new and improved Chef's Hat (soon to speed up cooking times) and associated achievement, Cooking With Style.
Titanium Ore
Mine this up, or buy it, but don't smelt it. Save as much of it as you can. Once the patch hits, the demand for this is going to go sky-high. Jewelcrafters will be looking to prospect it, and it will be turning up as a key reagent in some of the new epic Blacksmithing gear.
Non-Combat Pets
These obviously cannot be farmed until after the patch, but they will be in huge demand, so if you have a farming toon (Death Knights and Hunters are often used for more efficient farming), you should keep up on the latest info on the new pets.
For example, one of the raptor pets will be dropping from elite raptors inside Wailing Caverns, which could easily be farmed by almost anyone, save the very low level toons. You will also have no competition. In a dungeon of your own, you can clear it, leave and reset it, and trot merrily back in with fresh new spawns.
The news feed over at Warcraft Pets is a great resource for planning this out in advance.

Glyph of Exorcism links to the wrong item, by the way.
t0xic Jul 15th 2009 1:20PM
Art of War procs are the only thing that make that glyph possibly a good thing.
I don't play PvP (much), so I'm not real sure if people will bother with it or not. In PvE it's a huge letdown. I already spend too much time waiting for cooldowns. Now I have to wait for Art of War to proc or stand still and cast Exorcism... blah.
Off topic I know... I agree that giving these "tips" just floods the market, though. It seems almost counter-productive IMHO.

You mentioned new epic blacksmithing gear being released with the next patch, but nowhere on the PTR notes does it address anything to do with blacksmithing?
Maxilimus Jul 15th 2009 2:36PM
@T0xic Maybe it would add a bit of skill to the ret pally rotation. As it stands now you can facemash your keyboard and do top dps. Enhancement shamans don't complain about Maelstrom weapon stacking up before they can use lightning bolt
JKWood Jul 15th 2009 2:46PM
Also, what's up with the non-popuppy mmo-champion links? Either use wowhead, or use mmo-champion, but stop mixing them!

If you think art of war procs will somehow create a harder rotation in Ret PVE, you don't know Ret. I can count on an AoW proc by the time exorcism would be worked into my rotation. In fact someone looked at the numbers and now Ret will have an actual rotation. It's a hell of a lot simpler than Enhance and will have no priority list once eastablished, just hit what come off Cd next. AoW is so likely to have procced fro exorcism that it is essentially a non-issue.
Net result: Ret does more PVE DPS, less burst in PVP (with no healing debuff or other tricks so it is the weakest of the healers) and protection loses a mobility threat and pick up tool.
I had to use exorcism a good 15 times on Ignis last night. He kept running away and so I'd hit him with it or AS before hitting the next thing in rotation. That or while running out of scorch I'd hit it, since he was out of melee then too. I am going to miss it. Especially since I could care less about it as Ret. It uses spell hit and so I either get more hit than needed for melee or deal with it missing a lot.

Nothing for alchemists?
Gnosh Jul 15th 2009 1:10PM
The market will now flood due to every suggestion here, so be glad, alchemist pre-patch schemes will be limited to those that think them up with their own brains.
I'm tired of seeing this column.
Ebylon Jul 15th 2009 1:17PM
Yeah, it sucks that every player that plays WoW reads this site. I doubt anyone would have the forethought to research what's going to be 'in' when the patch hits to prepare for it, either. Eff you, WoW.com. Eff you.
Vladeon Jul 15th 2009 1:28PM
A smart player would take these tips and try to implement them. A clever player will scrounge up more interesting money making techniques on their own. I wouldn't worry so much about the market getting flooded, there will always be other ways to make tons of money. The fact that every server's economy is completely different means that there's a good chance that one of these tips will work for you. I like this column and I think that they're doing a great job at helping newer characters figure out how to work the market to their advantage, which means ultimately that everyone wins out. Maybe take a chill pill Gnosh. That's right, I took it old school, mid-90s.
Ebylon Jul 15th 2009 1:33PM
Oh snap, it got oldschool up in this piece. Let's get a B Boy battle going. Dance or die.
Ebylon Jul 15th 2009 1:39PM
I love that my post got downranked for being sarcastic and scathing to the post above me that got downranked...
impurezero Jul 15th 2009 2:21PM
Don't worry Eby. I got the intended sarcasm.
Sidenote: It always makes me giggle that any comment mentioning a previous comment's downrating, instantly gets a brutal downrating, too. Oh, those unwritten laws of wow.com commenting. :)

Amanda,
I think you missed a very important detail about JC's from the ptr.
3 sky sapphires = 1 Magestic Zircon
3 forest emerald=Eye of Zul
3 Twilight Opals+ Dreadstone
2 Eternal Shadows + Magestic Zircon= Ametrine
2 Eternal life+ Mag. Zirocn= Kings Amber
3 Eye of Zul= Cardinal Ruby.
Are these to be implemented?
DM7000 Jul 15th 2009 1:11PM
Those are alchemist recipes....The alchemist need to make the gems
Stanglered Jul 15th 2009 1:14PM
DM7000, thanks for correcting me. Master Transmute FTW!
DM7000 Jul 15th 2009 1:20PM
Oh god. I've yet to meet an alchemist thats still master transmute...
Michelle Jul 15th 2009 1:50PM
Those are actually not the correct materials for the Alchemy Transmutes. The materials have been simplified quite a bit. The most recent material list is listed somewhere here as well as mmo-champion.com
Ebylon Jul 15th 2009 1:13PM
Glyph of Exorcism has been turned into Glyph of Arcane Blast. This is in the official patch notes.
It will be renamed Glyph of Blastorcism.
Zerbe Jul 15th 2009 1:15PM
Agreed, stop posting all the secrets that people are planning for when the patch hits.
