I think a lot of the warrior tanks and warrior tank supporters in here are well meaning but missing the main problems we are having at the moment.
First off, speaking for myself, I don't necessarily want to be top DPS out of the four tanks. What I do want is to be is closer. I don't mind DK's, Pally's and Druids out doing me if my DPS was just not so horrible to look at in comparison. Hard mode fights where DPS from everyone does matter make Warrior's look like a last resort tanking wise. By overcompenstaing too much, I think it'll just make the Warrior homogenized and lame. I agree that some ArP or haste might help, if it didn't hurt our core abilities so damn much. Give some boosts to bleed effects, like was suggested. Or perhaps an interesting shield block dynamic, though that risks complicating an already dense issue.
I don't desire the best AoE threat, which speaking realistically, is hard but not impossible. The cold truth about warriors is that they require more communication, which makes them less desirable in PuG's obviously, but makes them no less workable. That's what creates variability in their performance. I'm okay with pally's and DK's being superior in AoE threat and against some bosses, while I'm good in some situations and not others. Ulduar didn't work out as well for warriors, and so I think you're hearing a lot of upset warriors for that reason. Rossi, I think one of the best points you made was that encounters just need to be more thought out, and I don't think having a certain class in mind for a fight is a bad thing, just as long as the others are considered too.
The utility argument that I have been seeing so often is a fantastic point. I'm tired of hearing how great it would be if a pally was there tanking, while I'm left there forced to agree because we don't have Kings, Might, Wisdom, Blessings or Aura's. You could buff shouts to have a little more utility in raid, and I think everyone would be really happy with that. Instead of having everyone gimped because Pally's are the go to guys for raid buffs, spread it out and make a warrior able give some buffing action. Homogenized? Perhaps, but that's an area where you're not going to make everyone think, OMG, OP. It will add a dimension that the warrior tanking is lacking in behind the other classes.
Shield block is one the hardest things to fix, because it's pretty unique and it's hard to balance with the other classes. I feel like based on the increase of bosses with magic, something could be done with Shield Block and Spell Reflect (Glyphed, talented, normal, in some form) to make the Shield Block dynamic extremely interesting. The Tier 8 4-piece set is amazing for the simple fact that it makes using shields feel really interesting and dynamic in certain fights, and makes building a situational shield block set appealing (Malygos, Sartharion 3D, Hodir). Make the fights into fights where it isn't "He has massive HPs, he's the best) to "Oh, Druid A has lots of HP and is useable for this fight, but we could also use Warrior B, since Spell Reflect and Shield Block combine to give -20% Magic damage" (This is an example, to demonstrate a possible way it could work). This would make it dynamic, fun, and add depth that just sounds exciting. This would go for paladins too, but in some different way. I don't know Paladin's tremendously well, so I fear to tread into that unknown too quickly, lol. Obviously, this would be a BIG change, but I think it create a dynamic similar to DK's anti-magic abilites and a druid's massive health pool. I really feel like Blizzard are homogenizing because it's simple and easy, and it is fairly disappointing.
Also, a quick comment about Shield block's changes coming with 3.2. The fact that shield block value is getting doubled on items I think replaces the Shield Block change well, and is a blessing in diguise. We'd see more consistent damage, and building a shield block set for Tanking DPS/ Threat is reasonable and very attractive, while not over-buffing Shield Slam +Shield Block so you're seeing 15k crits (that would be somewhat rare, but a little over the top when it happens, and there are PTR cases where it did. As a prot warrior, that sounds fun but ridiculous.). I'd rather see that then keeping that Shield Block mechanic that boosts and then capping Shield block value with diminishing returns, which just gimps warrior DPS more.
