It's been a few months since we've posted Craft of War: BLIND, which means we're due to start getting tips about it soon. To try and help head that off, I figured we'd take a moment today and re-watch one of the finest World of Warcraft movies so far. (That being, Craft of War: BLIND by Percula, of course.) While I love the embedded player, if this is your first time seeing BLIND, make sure to watch it full screen.
Some time ago, BLIND's original page had been removed by Vimeo, who had mistaken the animation for being mere "gameplay footage." I'm not exactly sure what game has this kind of footage, but I'd sure as hell like to know. After some wrangling, and then an apology on Vimeo's part, Percula was able to get his smash-hit video back up on the site. (In the mean time, other sites still featured BLIND, so it's not like the film disappeared from the face of the planet.)
BLIND has had an incredible impact on the fanbase. While machinima fans are already familiar with what authors like Soosdon and Selserene can do with the game models and animation tools, the incredible work performed by Percula brought in brand new fans to the hobby. It's worth taking a second look, and enjoying BLIND all over again.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.
I have this in hi quality mp4 format. I don't remember where I managed to grab it but it didn't take too much searching. Still the best World of Warcraft movie.
Technically this isn't Machinema. While the models and textures were exported from the game, the movie was not made in the game engine. It was all animated and rendered in a graphics studio. That's why it looks SO MUCH BETTER!
@elstor: While I agree that many of the people who do this sort of animation would easily win Blizzard contests, I believe that they are ineligible for entry due to the method used in creating them. If I'm not mistaken, the rules are that you cannot use even so much as a Model Viewer program. This video has obviously had several models exported from the game, modified to offer more animation and features with it's skeletons, and that's just for starters.
It's amazing stuff, but not anything Blizzard themselves would publicly accept/recognize due to their ruleset. :-/
It's been a while since I saw that, though I do have it on my computer. It's still an amazing video. I hope Percula is hard at work on a sequel to it. I'd still love to see his take on two Mages dueling it out around Dalaran. I suggest the title Craft of War: COUNTERSPELL. :)
While the song may be goofy and not something you'd expect for an action flick like this, you can't deny that it matches it perfectly (how it's synchronized with the action).
We can deny it. The video was built around the music, so while the synchronisation was good, you can't credit the music for it. The music was still terrible.
I get that people don't like Jpop - granted, I have an open mind, so I would have been open to just about anything - but notice one thing: the video is PERFECTLY timed to it.
The song provides the pacing, the meter, and the speed of the action. This underscores how much of an achievement this machinima is compared with what came before. It's frickin' pro.
Here are some of the lyrics to that retarded song which goes "perfectly" with that movie:
Wah Hit the floor “Bang Bang” It’s time to bang bang bang your head saa Let’s play kakurenbo You gotta just shake shake shake your body Boy you sexy thing like a gorgeous ring

So amazing that Percula should submit it to the creative art contest. He'd win hands down.

A great movie ruined by a rediculous song.

Can't someone edit this stupid Japanese anime girl pop crap out like they did with Jar-Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace?
