It's been a few months since we've posted Craft of War: BLIND, which means we're due to start getting tips about it soon. To try and help head that off, I figured we'd take a moment today and re-watch one of the finest World of Warcraft movies so far. (That being, Craft of War: BLIND by Percula, of course.) While I love the embedded player, if this is your first time seeing BLIND, make sure to watch it full screen.
Some time ago, BLIND's original page had been removed by Vimeo, who had mistaken the animation for being mere "gameplay footage." I'm not exactly sure what game has this kind of footage, but I'd sure as hell like to know. After some wrangling, and then an apology on Vimeo's part, Percula was able to get his smash-hit video back up on the site. (In the mean time, other sites still featured BLIND, so it's not like the film disappeared from the face of the planet.)
BLIND has had an incredible impact on the fanbase. While machinima fans are already familiar with what authors like Soosdon and Selserene can do with the game models and animation tools, the incredible work performed by Percula brought in brand new fans to the hobby. It's worth taking a second look, and enjoying BLIND all over again.
Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an e-mail at machinima AT wow DOT com.
Personally I enjoy a bit of Jpop once in a while. Guess I got used to it living over there and working as a bouncer in Roppongi.
The video is of course amazing and I'm happy that the author went with a bit of a controversial music track. I'm guessing the music track may have helped inspire a lot of argument and discussion which in turn helped spread the virus.
Either case, Chilblain's comment were somewhat humorous, so why don't we just all chill out and let everyone express themselves in a mostly non-vulgar manner?
What are you talking about? The music is great! It's obvious that you don't appreciate different kind of music. I bet you want a metal music on it so people think you're tough because you listen to it.
Percula himself (herself?) said the song was chosen deliberately to not be the stereotypical metal, but to refer to how the rogue is 'playing' with the alliance, sneaking past them is so easy for her.
I do want metal music, like Linkin Park. They are more than meets the eye.
My issue with the music is that the movie starts off using dramatic in-game music, setting up what appears to be this epic story. Then while the cinematics play out, you have to suffer through this bubblegum Hannah Montana-moto Disney song which totally distracts from the action on the screen.
Try watching the lobby scene in 'The Matrix' with some Jonas Brothers in the background. Go back to the original post of this machinma and you'll see people hated the music then as much as then do now. It doesn't hold up. Whatever message the creator was trying to convey by choosing this song is lost. Silence is more compelling.
Great song, actually. You don't often see this kind of music in good machinima. And, frankly I like this much better than Amuro's video for the song. I hadn't seen this video before, but it's probably the best out there. Looking forward to seeing more from Percula!

This video is just pure win, Percula needs his back 'almost' breaking with the amount of slaps it should get.

Awsome video. Wish game-play looked that good.

I also wish WoW's game-play was as great as this video, however Blade & Soul looks promising when it comes to having such game-play.

Assassin's Creed and its forthcoming sequel also have similar gameplay, complete with the wall and roof jumping. Awesome game, I highly recommend it.

The music may not be to everyones tastes, but it's the artists choice and the video was made with the music in mind. It fits it, it suits it.

Gessilea Jul 17th 2009 1:18PM
That's my favorite bit too. The entire sequence in the palace is fantastic.
PS. I didn't like the song at first but it grew on me, and I can't imagine the video with any other song. So :P haters.
