There's one really great signature moment of mage leveling which was overlooked in the article. Maybe it was just me, but there was that beautiful moment at level 20 when you learn your first three teleports. Since this silly game loves to emphasize long travel times, there's this great feeling of liberation knowing you can pop between Orgrimmar, Undercity, and Silvermoon at a moment's notice with no cooldowns.
One other thing to do while leveling, is play an aoe frost spec at least once. My first 80 was a prot pally who would level by grinding down huge groups, but that never felt like such a big stretch since she was always def capped and wore impossibly heavy armor. For the tiny squishy mage with little health and only a thin layer of cloth, doing the exact same thing felt really amazing.
And, for the aoe grind, there's the added fun of figuring out what to do when things don't go exactly according to plan. When an add joins your group unexpectedly, when frost nova fails to snare one of the group and cold snap is on cooldown, learning how to survive and think tactically in those situations was some of the best parts of leveling.

Heh, I've only seen one Ice-based AoE grinding mage before, during TBC.
Literally pulled 15-20 ethereals in netherstorm, and just destroyed them.
He saw me and said sorry in case I was planning on going after a couple of those mobs.
I said no problem dude, that was sheer epicness uncensored so do that as much as you want.

Learning how to do this is definitely something every ice-mage should learn. Quests like http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=13813 can easily be done in one pull, you'll spend more time looting all the corpses than killing them.

Also, I should point out AoE grinding is a lot easier since TBC. The frost snares were considerably buffed and with the new water elemental, you can now freeze your opponents from range.

LOL my mage was my 1st, my prot pally was my 2nd 80. Aoe grinding - love it - as a mage it was all about movement freezing and then aoe devistation. As a pally, body pull, use shield, taunt, and exorcism (til it becomes useless in patch) and listen to the pathetic blows ringing on your shield. Ive even done this with 15 mobs, then d/c'd. I thought id log back onto the ghost screen, as i was used to that with a mage d/c during any fight. But when i did there was my pally, with 1/2 health, and a perfect ring of dead bodys round him waiting to be looted....classic :)
