Breakfast Topic: Would you play a Worgen or a Goblin?

It's not that far-fetched, either. The Undermine, the home of the Goblins, is situated near the Maelstrom. Remember how Blizzard trademarked Cataclysm, which in Azerothian terms actually refers to the events around the Maelstrom? That means we just might see The Undermine in the next expansion. So Goblins aren't such a wild idea.
But what about the Worgen?
Well, remember how the human nation of Gilneas holed up behind the Greymane Wall? Who knows what's been happening behind that wall? And why are there so many werewolves hanging around there? Pretty curious. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, though, considering Blizzard's been teasing us about it. These masks just might be more of the same.
Here's the deal, though... if Worgen and Goblins do become the next playable races, will you play them?
Would you play Goblin or Worgen?
It's not clear which side either race will be on, but some of you guys made great points yesterday - the Horde need a 'short' race. Goblins also man Horde zeppelins and run the Engineering shop in Orgrimmar. So playable Goblins could be Horde. On the flip side, Gilneas was a human town, so if it turns out to be a werewolf settlement, they just might ally themselves with the Alliance. Does this mean you'd pay for a faction change just to play a Worgen? What are your thoughts on this wild speculation?

Remember the High Elves before the Burning Crusade? They didn't have the same voice that they do now. When Blood Elves became playable they gave them the standard voices.
I'd assume goblins will be similar - player goblins will likely have different voices, so depending on how tolerable those are, I will most likely play a Goblin.
...ok, and a Worgen. It's too damned awesome.

Worgen
Obi-Habby Jul 18th 2009 12:22PM
Worgen spelled backwards is Negrow

I've been betting on goblins finally cutting ties with the Alliance forever, its hard to make money selling gadgets when you have to compete with those darned Gnomes.
On the other hand, for the Worgen, it would be from way out in left field for the Alliance to have Worgen join their ranks, but then again, who out there predicted the Draenei?
(Goblins forever!)

It wouldn't be all goblins going Horde. At the very least Steamwheedle Cartel would still deal with both sides and Venture Co would still be aggressive to all in their way. Most likely it'll be just the followers of one, single Trade Prince, among the many, or only a few.

alot of people predicted draenei. the devs had stated before that the new race would have strong ties to Outland. however when they were predicting draenei they thought it was the Broken spcies of Draenei, because at the time it was thought that the Horde needed a pretty race and alliance needed a beastly/ugly race...
Grissum Jul 18th 2009 12:17PM
@Billy Pham To be fair the horde did get their pretty race. I see plenty of pretty boy Blood Elves prancing around every day.
LilBanshee Jul 20th 2009 10:42AM
Broken or not, the Cthulhu-faced Draenei aren't exactly winning a lot of beauty contests. Most people I know who rolled Draenei went with females just to avoid looking like a blue squid is eating their face.

I'm still a bit skeptical about goblin horde and worgen alliance. Keep in mind just how xenophobic the alliance is. Note the alliance questline in grizzly hills in particular with the worgen. Not to mention every other quest dealing with some 'beast' of a creature or race. Indeed the deizens of Gilneas may possibly be worgen but I'm not so sure they'd, a) be eager to join with the kingdom they shut themselves off to and b) be accepted by the current kingship.
I play alliance and would love to see either race join up, but I have my doubts it would be Worgen. Besides, blizz loves the Horde so they would get the 'cool' race.
All for the best perhaps. I would kill myself if all the furries came to alliance only to stain the rugs in all the inns. I'm suddenly reminded at how much MORE awful Moonguard would become...

I mean, for a long time now i've wanted something a little more animalish in wow. Like a lizardman race or something.
Worgen seems to be the answer. I really hope it's true.

Cows aren't good enough for you? (No offense to tauren players intended.)
Koot Jul 18th 2009 11:07AM
@A Nonny Mouse
That makes sense since only the _Darkspear_ trolls sided with the Horde and we have been killing thousands of other troll clans since WoW started.

Goblin Death Knights!
cyndigirl47 Jul 18th 2009 11:10AM
That poses another interesting question would new races be able to retcon themselves into being Death Knights?
The game play answer is yes, but the lore answer is why was there a worgen/goblin in a position to get taken by the scourge. Keep in mind that Blizzard has stated that each expansion is roughly a year in game time.
freeway8989 Jul 18th 2009 4:20PM
Also think about this: if the Lich King is supposed to be defeated by the current expansion's end, then would it make sense for any race to become a DK come the new expansion? Remember that, theoretically, there shouldn't be any Lich King lore-wise once the game shifts into the next expansion.
Lol, I wonder if loopholes like these keep any of the lore-nerds over at Blizzard up at night.

I think it would be weird to have goblins horde-side. I think they look too much like orcs, just, pint size. But Worgens would be pretty cool, especially for alliance. It would be different cause all ally races, including draenei, are "pretty" races, and worgen would be the on the opposite side of the spectrum there. I would possibly roll a worgen, but it depends on what classes they could be. All i can really see is warrior...hunter? I dont really see worgen being a pally or mage or any heavy caster like that. Idk call me crazy.
A Nonny Mouse Jul 18th 2009 8:50AM
Um... the only similarities between goblins and orcs in appearance is skin colour and roughly humanoid shape. Trolls look more like goblins than orcs do, and even that's a stretch.
Check your eyes.
Jack Spicer Jul 18th 2009 8:51AM
I don't understand. Look at those masks and tell me that those worgen would be an 'ugly' race. They look darn pretty to me, and much more attractive than the goblin masks do.
A Nonny Mouse Jul 18th 2009 8:52AM
Oh, and since when are dwarfs "pretty"? They've got a certain rugged charm, sure...
JustinScott Jul 18th 2009 9:08AM
Notice how i put "pretty" in quotations. Learn to use YOUR eyes.
@ Mouse
By pretty, i mean smooth skinned, non-rugged looking, that kind of thing. The horde has orcs, that arent "pretty", tauren that are huge furry cows, undead with their bones showing, and trolls, need i say more? Only the BE could be considered "pretty". And the goblins and trolls look absolutely NOTHING alike. How can you say goblins and orcs dont look alike? Only goblins do look a little less rugged, thats it.
@ Jack
True, those skins of the worgen are not "ugly", but again, i mean that ally's dont have a rugged, animal-ish race, and thats all the horde is made of. It would be a nice change to have something that has fur for the allys.
