Around Azeroth: By popular demand
A public service announcement: I finally decided to run a picture of the recent dead gnome/troll spam of gold selling web site names in the main cities. Now for the love of Elune, no more! Dead gold seller pics have made up at least a quarter of the Around Azeroth submissions for the past three weeks. This screenshot, sent in by smart submitter Arya of <Operation Cwal> on Tortheldrin, has been the only one that doesn't show the full web site name, which renders the whole thing unpublishable. Yes, it is kind of cool, but we don't want to advertise for the gold sellers, and you don't want to waste your time on something that can't show up on the web site. Let us move forward, not backwards. Upwards, not forwards. And always twirling, twirling towards freedom.
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, gold seller ads with dead gnomes, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran.

I've seen this on my server as well, in the exact same spot. I have yet to catch them in the act, but it seems this pops up just about every day now.
I don't agree with the gold selling market, but I have to admit this is rather clever marketing.

Here's a cool-tip.
Healing classes can grief these as it occurs. The bodies don't die immediately; instead they use a bug to jump as high as possible, causing damage to their character. The first jump doesn't kill them. A quick healer can keep one of these guys up for a few minutes before they logout. :]

Sat around and watched some Trolls die on Bleeding Hollow the other night as they spelled out the same website. >_>

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

They did this on Hellscream too yesterday. I'm wondering if they are the reason for the emergency server maintenance yesterday. Hellscream was down for 3-4 hours.

I hate these. :\ It's really annoying to see them every time I go to AH.

Well, at least they changed the race of the dead guys. On Baelgun and Proudmoore, it's always tauren. People light some campfires around and go announcing the BBQ.

It was always gnomes on Khaz Modan, but that was in Ironforge. It may have to do with the starter city, since they have to port all the new characters there.

The quotes Elizabeth does on these are always the best.

Bliz should be able to stop this by now? It's been going for Months on Doomhammer-EU.
It make's Orgi look untidy.

.... Oh for an edit button.... errant apostrophe ahoy!
Soz grammar guardians.

On Argent Dawn-EU, it appears to be humans. Used to be human rogues but now they're warlocks.
Wish Corpse Explosion worked on them...

Always wondered how they do these.. Firstly, it's always computer controlled characters, because of strange interrupting movements; but the most curious part is how they get the characters to die. If I'm correct, they die from fall damage.. So for a moment they pause when they've found their position, disappear (where to and how??) and then suddenly appear on that very place and die.. Yet they appear nowhere else in between disappearance and reappearance :)

Could be unfixed cheats/exploits to get straight up some 100 yards, then just fall.
Orb Jul 19th 2009 12:05PM
I wonder why they don't fix this thing, then...

I suppose it's because the server can't check what all characters are doing. It would take too much resources. So movement and positioning is probably mostly left to the client. As these guys are running a bogus client, they can do some special moves until the server catches them...

+10 internets for the Simpsons reference to you, good sir!
