I think its a good idea, but its use will vary from guild to guild, it is after all essentially a progression tool. Giving guilds the ability to have more time in instances they are progressing will work for the best, and it will really come down to a case by case basis with guilds, it will either be embraced, casually used or debated.It is however the double edged sword as it offers the same roadblocks that always follow a loot / progression situation, do you forgo the easier boss loot to push through for more content and vise versa. End of the day i think most Raiding Guilds will shun it, casual guilds will embrace it, and it could be the bane of puggers, but that being said its a nice option to have.
