The Queue: Snape, snape
Welcome back to The Queue, WoW.com's daily Q&A column where the WoW.com team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
In celebration of the recent release of the new Harry Potter movie, I've decided to expose the two of you out there that have never seen the above video to... well, the above video. I'll say no more, folks. Watch it, then read on! Probably in beat with a metronome!
Mannas asked...
"With the new feature to switch factions, will we finally have a way to "mail" items across factions by making a toon, sending the item there, switching factions and then mailing on? Or will they somehow limit this?"
We don't know the restrictions on faction changing yet, but when they do server transfers, they make you empty out your mailbox. You probably could put an heirloom from your Alliance characters in your bags then switch over to Horde with it, yeah. They might put a restriction on doing that though, who knows? You can probably do it but we won't know for sure until they come out and tell us.
Logan asked...
"Are there any official lists of all the easter eggs/references to real life people/events in the game?"
There isn't an official list anywhere that I'm aware of, no. As many other readers mentioned yesterday, Wowwiki is a good place to check for that though, they have numerous lists. They have lists for pop culture references, in-jokes, and easter eggs.
037 asked...
"Break it down for me... What is going to happen to my old badges when 3.2 hits? Should I spend them now because they will be useless? Will I be able to use them in conjunction with the new badges?"
Your old badges will still be able to be used for everything you can use them for right now. All new items will use Conquest badges, and Heroics and such will only drop Conquest badges. If you're short a few Valor badges for something you want, you can trade Conquests down to Valors, but you can't trade anything up. Comprende?
Abbadon asked...
"Since DKs have different NPCs when doing the four champion level AT dailies and get Ebon Hold rep instead of Argent Crusade rep, is the Crusader title based on being exalted with EH (for DKs), or do DKs still need to get AC rep as well?"
I believe Death Knights do need to grind Argent Crusade rep, yes. If I'm wrong on that, hopefully a Death Knight that has done it will correct me in the comments, but that's how I understand it. The achievement itself isn't any different for them, they just need to do it a bit differently.
Tyler asked...
"If I were to cancel my WoW subscription... does that mean all of my characters will be deleted? If not, what would have to happen for them to be deleted? Besides doing it manually, I mean."
No, your characters are not deleted when you cancel your subscription. You can leave the game for a very long time, and when you come back your characters will still be there waiting for you. I've had guild members come back to the game a year or two after they'd originally quit and all of their characters were as they left them. I don't think that Blizzard will ever take your characters away unless you delete them yourself or you do something to get banned.
kooda asked...
"Why is there currently no water in Dalaran sewers on the PTR did they forget to pay their bill? Although they are mages, have they forgotten they have the spell conjure water or do they just not have enough mana left?"
There's no water in the Stormwind canals, either. Gasp! Could it be a precursor to the Maelstrom!? Are the Naga draining Azeroth's water supplies now, since they failed in Outland!? Was Serpentshrine Cavern only a setback!??
Nah, it's just a bug.
Jason P asked...
"How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood in Crystalsong Forest?"
None. They would break their little teeth! Woodchucks just aren't built to chomp magical crystalwood. Why do you hate the poor woodchucks, Jason?

I have heard a few things about rated bgs in the future. Is it possible that blizz will finally create a way that BG lovers can get current season level pvp gear with out having to suffer through arena? Do you think they will be exactly the same or a different set all together? Any ETA for this? Next patch or beyond?

"All new items will use Conquest badges, and Heroics and such will only drop Conquest badges."
I was under the impression that while Heroics and such WILL drop Conquest badges, the new items will use Triumph badges. i.e. you'll be able to purchase anything CURRENTLY available from the badge vendors by running heroics, but not the new stuff they'll be adding in 3.2.

C'mon, everyone knows a woodchuck would chuck all the wood he could chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood (in Crystalsong). Or am I the only person that knows that?
Spades Jul 22nd 2009 1:01AM
I'm glad Slamkovich above mentioned class speculation.
Just curious: Pretending for JUST A MOMENT that the Worgen and Goblins were the next selected races implemented, would a Death Knight class be still available to them? I'm no huge lore buff, but logically since they would be introduced in the future after we 'destroy/outjoust' Arthas, there would be no conversions made to Death Knights?
Also, would there be any Goblin magic users made available? Again, I plead lore ignorance, but I've never seen or been made aware of a Goblin Mage before. Perhaps they all blew themselves up?

This question may have already been answered some time ago and I have not yet stumbled on it yet.
Why are there not more weekend raiding guilds? I look on the wow forums and other raiding forums for raid guilds that don't start on the day of the reset. I understand the want to hit the content asap, but in all fairness if you are only dedicating 3 days to raid (Usually Tuesdays-Thursdays) why are there not more Friday-Sunday(or "off nights") Raid guilds?
I would think as a week/weekend cyclonic society that revolves around school and work schedules that more people would be available during the weekend to spend the time and dedicate it to such endeavors.
I've seen a few guilds crumble because people can't always make raid schedules during particular low tides in attendance (Due to over time at work, school projects, the ever popular "Not getting enough sleep in the week" etc.) and one thing leads to another and people get frustrated tempers flare and so forth.
And with that I don't see why people are not looking for and forming guilds that raid during the weekend or off raid days to allow the week to happen and have a better chance at a good raider turnout during the weekend...

I can only answer from my own experience.
I have been in a Raiding Guild since middle Vanilla Wow. And every time we had this exact question come up, we would try it out either via a Poll or by changing the schedule. And every time it failed. After doing this enough times, I think it boils down to the fact that folks want their weekends free for other things. Even the most hardcore players I ever ran with would rather run late on a work night than schedule Raids for Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
Everyone's Mileage will vary of course, but as you noted it seems to be a trend that has pretty much held true for many years. It just seems to be the way it is.

Mr. Alex, do you predict we might see a way to reorganize our characters (on our character selection screen) in 3.2 or the next expansion? I'm an alt-aholic and refuse to delete any of my neglected alts but I hate having my death knight way at the bottom of the list.
Thanks! :)
Kitrine Jul 22nd 2009 3:20PM
Even worse, my main was below a level 18 rogue for more than a year. I didn't delete the rogue for a long time because I'd built up her engineering and I liked being able to make mechanical squirrel boxes.
This is one option that seems fairly simple that I've wanted for a long time. I'd like to be able to move the alts I play most to the top and put my bank alt at the bottom for quick access.
Sandriss Jul 22nd 2009 6:21PM
Exactly!

Don't you think WoW.com is going overboard with all the recent speculation? Goblins? Worgen? Cataclysm? Can't we focus on the fact that Arthas isn't even dead yet? Frankly, filling readers' heads with false hope with datamining and answering question after question about these issues is disingenuous at best. Would you pass this message on to Elizabeth for me? Thank you.

A woodchuck would chuck all the wood a woodchuck could chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood in Crystal Song Forest.

Omigosh I freaking LOVE Potter Puppet Pals!! YOU WIN!
Don't worry I'm not just going to fangirl
Bluescar Jul 22nd 2009 5:31AM
Wow... My question was cut off! Anyway...
Is there a way to get the music from Ulduar or the Argent Tournament onto an iPod or some other MP3 player? I LOVE it, but alas, it's not on the sound track :(

"Umm, here's a hint: people don't gank lowbies for the honor points (you get no honor from people more than 10 levels lower than you)."
Yes thats exactly what I said. They don't get any honor points, and that fact is supposed to be an incentive to not kill those too much lower than yourself. However it just doesn't work as there is no penalty. No honor is gained therefore its not "honorable" but its not classed as "dishonorable" either, which I think it should be.
I also agree (and said in my comment) that being able to gank is realistic (since they are enemies regardless of level and considering how easy it is to "one-hit-kill" people in the real world with guns and swords etc, not that I've ever tried!) however the main reason people do it in WoW is to annoy rather than show their prowess (which they can't have much of anyway if they only run around STV killing lowbies) therefore they should have some kind of dishonor put upon them. On a non-RP server there is absolutely no in-game need for level 80s to go around killing and corpse camping level 30s etc. If they want to feel like they're contibuting to the Horde-Alliance battle they should stick with battlegrounds or do the PvP dailies in Icecrown... they might not get as many kills, but when they do they'll at least count for something.
Kylenne is right in that they should lose honor rather than just not gain any. That might actually help if the gankers are PvP oriented. I for one love the realism of world PvP outside of Wintergrasp, but only if its honorable combat, when the odds are even. I'm sure many others feel the same.
Anthony, actually I've come across a great number of players outside of northrend, both the level 80 gankers and the levelling players/alts. I for one have gained a case of altoholism recently, maybe a lot of other people have too :P
Elry Jul 22nd 2009 6:26AM
Darn, thats meant to be a reply to the replies to my previous comment :P
Throck Jul 22nd 2009 12:13PM
Elry, what do you suggest should happen when raids of lowbies go around attacking higher level players? Previously described anti-ganking ideas seem like good ideas at first, but when one gets into the details and the boundary conditions, the "solutions" are shortsighted and game-breaking.

What's the word on the new epic gem (transmutes)?
Which mats will be required and do we have to quest/do dungeons/spend gazillions of gold to learn them?
Or should I just buy Titanium ore of the AH
Kay Jul 22nd 2009 10:22AM
I have a slew of flame caps sitting in my bag leftover from outlands that increase damage of my fire spells for a minute. Which spells for a druid are fire spells?
Meritus Jul 22nd 2009 10:26AM
Background:
I am an auctioneer user. I have a bank alt with his own guidl bank, with 3 guild tabs(soon to be 4) full of various mats and consumables. For each item I keep a regularly stocked(batch posted) qty on the AH. So my work on this character consists of the following
(1) Open All feature of the Postal addon to collect the some 300 items from my mailbox
(2) Go to guild bank
(3) Move unposted items from guild bank to bag until bag is full
(4) Go to AH and Batch Post refilling postings
(5) Go to Guild Bank
(6) Place items that didn't batch post back into guild bank
(7) Goto Step 3 (Repeat until all items have been checked for batch posting).
As you can see I spend a lot of time just moving items from bag to bank to bag to bank to bag...
Question:
Is there an addon out there that will allow you to deposit all items in your bag into the guild bank and/or move items from the guild bank to you bag until your bag fills up?
Meth Jul 22nd 2009 1:55PM
Awesome, thanks for the response lol. I have like... 300 or so now so I'll just buy up some heirloom stuff and the T7 dps items... might do some dps instead of tanking, thanks again for the response!
