Login issues reported this evening

The problems seem to be originating from people who have not yet merged their World of Warcraft accounts with their Battle.net accounts. To do so, go into the account management page and select the appropriate options.
There have been some stability issues with the login servers the last few days, and this seems to just be the latest.
If you can't get in, check out our Guide to Patch 3.2 - we're expecting the patch to drop within the next few weeks. And if you haven't heard already, the Warcraft Movie has landed a director - Sam Raimi. It's World of Spidercraft, baby.
Update: Now there is an official Blizzard response to the problem, although there is no ETA on a solution.
Update #2: For those wondering, the issue was fixed overnight.

This is happening more and more lately, and used to be a very rare occurrence. Suddenly WOW is acting like a new MMO launching with server crashes and login issues. When do we get an update that explains what the deal is? And can we finally put to rest, one way or the other, whether or not it has anything at all to do with Battle.net accounts? I'm getting tired of that getting thrown out there every time there's an issue. If we have to switch over to ensure this doesn't happen, then wouldn't Blizzard just come out and tell us that?

@shannon
Having played since launch and through the xpacs, could you please let me know when this golden age of WoW occured? There have always been waves and periods of instability, lag, server downtime, login/auth issues et al. If anything its got much better over the last couple years imho.

My guild was talking about this last night when a bunch of members could not get in. We were chatting over vent and the only thing we can think of is they DO want everyone to switch to battle.net accounts. Just do it, it's not that big of a deal. The only Blizzard game I play is WoW, other then that I'm a huge FPS fan, but you have to remember, Blizzard also has issues with battle.net sometimes so it's not a fix all, I would just make the switch and get it over with. A lot of our members did it last night, because we feel Blizzard will NOT work on the issue just to get peeps to switch..

I want to know why Blizz is forcing us to have a battle.net account?
edward Jul 22nd 2009 10:38PM
I thought it was my ISP again having problems with international links or that my account finally got hacked (went and changed password >

I finally went and merged to battle.net but I wasn't happy to do so... if I wasn't scheduled to lead a raid tonight, I wouldn't have bothered

What's wrong with a battle.net account?
Tyler Jul 23rd 2009 2:51AM
I agree. Ever since making one, I have all of my Blizzard games available in one convenient place.

Are we getting free gametime for the time we can not log in?
Shamman22 Jul 23rd 2009 12:08AM
I have a battle.net account and I'm stuck on the "authenticating" screen. This has happened several times this week. It's just more blizz glitches. The thing that sucks is, I was in a raid as dps. They asked me to switch to my tank. I logged out to switch, and haven't been able to log back on......
Maybe we should all just send an email saying "authenticating decision to make payment" when the next billing cycle rolls around?

verrrry helpful.

just in case this helps someone, I couldn't log in and was getting stuck at authenticating so i went to battle.net and merged my account, got my new log in info and all that, and was able to connect to the game just fine

Some asshat has tied my WoW-account to his battle.net-account and has started to empty out my chars. How hard would it have been for Blizz to send out a "are you the one who did this" E-mail?
Randolyn Jul 23rd 2009 2:29PM
They do. I did the Battle.net conversion last night and in order to finish, they sent me an email and I had to click on a link to confirm that it was me.
So, said asshat not only has your WoW login and password, but can read and respond to your emails as well.

not working....again
and i refuse to merge my battlenet account with my wow account, i sincerly think that blizzard should fix this god damn problem instead of just throwing a temp fix at people with the battlenet accounts
