Breakfast Topic: The rest of the movie's crew
Well Sam Raimi is the Warcraft movie's director, and yet with all of the epic action we expect from it, he can't do the job alone. We asked a while back about who you would cast in the movie, but what do you think about the other crew members? Somebody's got to run the cameras and the lights, and make the music and do the CGI, right? The Lord of the Rings is probably the closest relative to an ideal Warcraft movie, I'd think, and Andrew Lesnie worked closely with Peter Jackson to shoot all of those movies. Bruno Delbonnel is another choice -- he not only shot Amelie and the latest Harry Potter, but he's been Oscar nominated a number of times. Wally Pfeister has worked closely with Legendary Pictures (who are producing the movie) and Christopher Nolan, shooting both of the latest Batman movies and The Prestige as well.
As for music, you'd think that there'd be plenty of Warcraft music already, but Hans Zimmer or Howard Shore might be two ideas for composers. After that, I don't know -- who would do costumes? Effects? It'd be great to have Weta or ILM working on creatures for the movie, but then again, Blizzard's CG team really should have a part in it. Lots of potential all around: if you were hiring the crew, who would you choose?

For a composer, I would throw in Walter Murphy as well. He's a musical genius who is (was) a contemporary of Goldsmith and Zimmerman. He's more contemporary in his musical styling, but has a sense of orchestration that few others posses.
I'd assume the special effects will be done by ILM. Hell, Blizzard could probably teach ILM a thing or two given the in-house cinematic they do already.

I think the composers used for the games could actually work.
Jason Hayes, Derek Duke, Russel Brower, Glenn Stafford, Tracy bush, Matt Uelmen, David Arkenstone to name the most commonly credited.
If not, Harry Gregson-Williams does a great job in my opinion.

Although I like Matt Uelmen's work, he's not suited for warcraft so I'll choose Jason Hayes and Russel Brower for the movies soundtrack.

Just found out that Neal Acree composed both TBC and Lich King intro so I think he can do a good job also in warcraft's soundtrack.
Spazmoose Jul 23rd 2009 10:55AM
With Neal Acree composing for both TBC and WotLK, I would think that he may have a step ahead of the other composers, as far as already having a feel for the style of music desired, though the music in the game would probably not be fitting for large battles, so perhaps they will have multiple composers.
Perhaps Neal can work on the "mood" music, that is generally playing in the background, and Hans Zimmer could be doing the epic "battle" music.

I think that Blizzard's composers would be good choices to maintain the consistent sound and style of the Warcraft universe. Unfortunately, that would probably mean several pieces throughout the movie using a loud chorus singing in fake dog-Latin.

Honestly, for composers, I would really like to see Blizzard's composer do it. I wasn't a fan of the music until Northrend. If you don't know what I'm talking about, listen to the music in Grizzly Hills or Storm Peaks. It's actually quite good. Maybe a mixture of him and Joe Hisaishi. If you don't know Joe Hisaishi, know him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H82QHiUvY5E&fmt=18
Also, Randy Edelman would be a good choice. ("Last of the Mohicans", I'm looking at you.)

I would really love to see Tim Barton Co-Directin' the Undead part.
spagh_edi Jul 23rd 2009 8:18AM
Tim Barton?
Brune Jul 23rd 2009 8:26AM
The CEO of Kansas City Business Journal? Nah, he'd be terrible.
You've given me a great idea though, what about Tim Burton, who did all that johnny depp stuff? :P
[Although I'm poking fun, great idea!]
Axolotl Jul 23rd 2009 8:08AM
No need for costumes for the bloodelf females in the movie >:-)
I'd gladly accept the PG18-rating that would get :-D
Anyhow, costumes would require a lot of work considering the huge amounts of gear available ingame.
I'd probably go for Ngila Dickson and Richard Taylor who did it for Lord Of The Rings

My question is... what part will Bruce Campbell get?
Superbeef Jul 23rd 2009 8:20AM
Thassarian
Check it!
CrusaderStrike Jul 23rd 2009 8:34AM
He'll be a dreanei for sure.
Taladan Jul 23rd 2009 8:37AM
Kael'thas?
My guess is that he will only do a cameo and, thus, will play a rogue that will appear, say something and vanish.
Veras Gunn Jul 23rd 2009 8:47AM
Don't be dense, there's only one worth role for Bruce Campbell in this movie. Leeroy Jenkins, end of discussion.
Redman Jul 23rd 2009 10:20PM
Hoggar. Seriously.
Hoggar!

CafeFX (Pan's Labyrinth) and/or Double Negative (Harry Potter) as contributors to the SFX would be swell. Without a doubt some of the greatest work for the last few years has come from these two outfits.
RetadinMan Jul 23rd 2009 8:18AM
I wanna see John Williams compose the musical score.
Tum Burton co-directing the Undead would be awesome as well.
