Bruce Campbell and Metzen on the movie at Comic-Con
I have geeked out many times while writing for this site, but I think this is the geekiest geekout I've ever geeked out about: Bruce Campbell talking about World of Warcraft. He's hanging out at Comic-Con promoting Burn Notice (a series that I'm still watching, if only because of him), and IGN cornered him on the topic of his friend Sam Raimi's new movie, based on our very own Azeroth. Campbell says he has no idea what Raimi has in mind for the movie, and that he only just heard about the job when we did. But then he says something that will lift all of our geeky hearts: when it comes time for casting, Bruce says, "I'll get a call." And Raimi will say to him, "You play some schmuck. Some idiot guy. Some garbage man."We can't think of too many garbagemen in Azeroth -- Topper Mcnabb, maybe? But the fact that Campbell knows about the movie and is ready to take a role is good enough for us. And he isn't the only person speculating on the part he might play: Chris Metzen brought up Campbell at Comic-Con and suggested he might play a CG-based character, like a goblin. That doesn't sound so awesome to us, though -- you've gotta let that world-famous mug shine through. It does seem a little unlikely that Campbell would play a really huge part, but a lot of people have brought up Varian Wrynn, and we can't really think of any part more fitting (plus, maybe that means the movie will focus on Horde instead of Alliance). Hail to the King, baby!
Keep an eye over on our sister site Massively for more Comic-Con coverage all this weekend, and if we hear any more about the movie, we'll be sure to let you know.

Down rated for posting a fucking fact quoted by blizzard. Makes you wonder about people who read this...
Groth Jul 25th 2009 5:48AM
Not a flame or anything, but where did blizz say that the film will definately be from the Alliance POV?
I think the reason this has been down rated is less because of the blizz facts, and more because people regularly relate to non-human characters (Ewoks, ET, Guinea Pigs, Shrek Disney films in general).
If half of the players of wow chose to roll horde, then they must be able to relate to them somehow...
Ofc nothing would stop Bruce being Varian Wrynn in an Alliance POV film.
All depends on why Raimi has in mind for the film- if he wanted to do a Horde POV film I doubt Blizz would stop him, although the additional budget requirements of everyone needing more prosthetics might.

While I don't agree with the idea that people don't relate to the non-humans, I would bet that hollywood agrees with this take. Why do you think SF/Fantasy movies still get such a hard time? And the ones that make it through, half the time, are the ones where it's easier to make the connection to the characters -despite- the SF/F elements. Example - the X movies, Spider man, etc.

LOL, I was totally gonna suggest Topper!
Or...What about Marshal Windsor?
Bossy Jul 24th 2009 7:28PM
I read today the movie is being planned for 2011.
I bet you 1.000 euros it will be launched together with an expansion pack.
3rd expansion pack: May 2010.
4th expansion pack Nov 2011. The famous '100 leveled max out expansion pack".
.... If the film is any good expect worldwide subs to rise to 15 M.
90% of the public has yet to discover mmorpg's on PC's.
We ain't seen nothin' yet.

Ah, Bruce Campbell. Sheer awesomeness. However, let's not kid ourselves. Like anything else in the WoW extended universe (books, comics, etc.), this movie will be Alliance-centric, and the Horde will be very lucky if they aren't painted as outright bad guys. Oh well, so long as Variann isn't the male lead of the movie, it still has a chance of being decent. (See: Bruce Campbell again.)

Bruce Campbell will be cast as Elling Trias. Mark my words.
J.D. Jul 24th 2009 8:04PM
HAH! Just noticed you posted this, Trias was my first thought too! ;)
Mike Schramm Jul 24th 2009 9:15PM
Wow. That would be awesome.
twh Jul 24th 2009 7:41PM
The chin alone makes him perfect for Wrynn. And that's a good thing, since Campell's got the moxy to be awesome, no matter what role he's in.
jfofla Jul 24th 2009 7:42PM
Since the news about the movie came out, I have seen alot of chatter about Bruce.
First, who is he?
I have never heard of him.
Second, what does he have to do with WOW?

Campbell is famous for his roles in "B" type of camp movies, has a worldwide following, and has had bit parts in major movies his childhood buddy, Sam Raimi, has directed (Spiderman trilogy). Your assignment for tonight.....watch the Evil Dead trilogy (Army of Darkness being my fave). You can also catch him as Sam on Burn Notice on USA.
Shinji Jul 24th 2009 7:56PM
Bruce Campbell is Sam Raimi's (the director) life long friend. Their whole lives have been centered around movie making, both as amatures and pro's (Sam directed the spider man trilogy, among others)
Bruce is perhaps best known for his role in Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness. If you have enver seen these movies (or ehard of em) it would do you some good to see them, as they are pretty major cult horror films.

Best Bruce Campbell film EVER: Bubbahotep
I watched the whole movie without knowing that he was the actor playing the aged Elvis living in a nursing home!
When i realized it had been him, my already supreme enjoyment of this most sublime film escalated to unheralded levels of Awesomeness!!!
BRUCE ROCKS!!!!!!!!
Agerath Jul 25th 2009 11:20AM
So...he stars in shitty movies, and the only parts he can get in A list films are cameos?
Remind me why he's famous?
Hansbo Jul 25th 2009 11:57AM
Army of Darkness is NOT shitty! It's a low budget film but it's extremely funny (and very quotable - blizzard games has had several quotes from that particular movie, like the famous "THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK!")
jbodar Jul 25th 2009 10:33PM
@Agerath
He's mostly famous for BEING a B Movie actor and as such has a cult icon status. He's a character actor.
@paragorilla
Now, I love Bruce Campbell, but I literally fell asleep trying to watch Bubbahotep. The Evil Dead Trilogy is still his best stuff to me.
artjunkie808 Jul 24th 2009 7:48PM
Oh boy.. this movie is going to be terrible...
(I know I'm going to get downrated for that lol)
Mornhadine Jul 24th 2009 8:03PM
Hey everyone! That guy is talking bad about WoW! Boo that man!
/boooo
OTH, just imagine the nerd stampede at Blizz HQ if the movie comes out & really does suck... I'll blame Artjunkie if it does :P (jk)
