Around Azeroth: A farewell to the big red worgen
Kassiopeia of <Saga> on Steamwheedle Cartel-EU not only stole my Fallout 3 character name, she also sent in this nice tribute to the gone-but-not-forgotten worgen pet. "Entitled Big Red Ki...Worgen, I'm sure Daniel would have quite the story to post about this," she wrote. "With all the worgens turned puppies again, we can still visit our humanoid companion in Utgarde Pinnacle. I enjoyed the taming, the worgen on my side, perfect fishing partner, but now that it's over, I'll happily look at the screenshots and look forward to an eventual playable worgen race. Thank you WoW.com, for broadcasting the worgen tame, and sending hunters like me on a great little expedition!"
Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word "Azeroth" in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, gold seller ads with dead gnomes, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran.

I really wish i had been able to get me one of these while they were still around. Sadly my hunter is only 64, so there was no chance. Maybe next time.

Reverting these back to wolves is further proof about Worgen being playable in next Xpac, IMO.

Because they fixed a bug about hunters being able to tame a humanoid, which happened to be a worgen, means in the next expansion, there will be new races and one of them will be the worgen.
OK there.

I don't think there's a chance in hell that Worgen or Goblins will be made playable races, soon or ever — the former's one-dimensionally malevolent and the latter's vitally neutral.
But screenshots from my adventures are nostalgic, so I can imagine how meaningful this little episode was for a lot of players.

They did treat Worgen different than other accidentally-tameable mobs.
It's the only one so far they've erased entirely.

Goblins aren't neutral. They support the Horde in, I think WCIII. The Steamwheedle Cartel is neutral because there's more profit in it that way. We just haven't encountered any other goblins.
Likewise, Worgen don't have to be all malevolent, just the ones we've already encountered. For example, of all the many tribes of trolls we've come across, for some reason only one tribe is civilized enough to become allies of the horde, rather than trying to kill us and getting slaughtered.
I think both races are definitely a possibility, although personally I think Blizz will try to be more unexpected.

@Dazaras
Past examples of the race notwithstanding, Goblins in World of Warcraft have always remained indifferent to factions and political causes. Affirmation of one faction — or both — would undermine that reliably mercenary comic relief. Blizzard takes great care in consistent portrayal, and the benefits of Goblins as a playable race don't seem to outweigh the loss of the role played as a neutral race.
Tom Chilton's "pre-seeding" remark is important in considering the Worgen. While the race's virtues could certainly be developed, they haven't been since the expansion and subsequent content patches. At least, say, the Vrykul have potential redemption in the narrative pipeline.

The Goblin factions in WoW currently are 'companies' of goblins, they don't necessarily represent the whole of the race.
There is nothing to say that a goblin 'company' can't be formed by the goblins in the employ/partnering with the horde (as many run the zepplins and are in some cases flagged as horde). I'm sure there would be need to be some animosity between the neutral companies and any horde/alliance goblin faction. So you'd be an outcast in the goblin community basically.
If they do this... Make it a lot harder than the birthday party you threw for the DK's going to their capital and suddenly becoming friendly... was disappointing.

You people do know that Elune herself gave that night elf the ability to call on the Worgen?
Falcon6 Jul 25th 2009 12:32PM
Scythe of Elune = Hunter weapon?
;)
Torlaz Jul 25th 2009 1:39PM
"Velinde Starsong was granted it from Elune (or maybe she only thought that it was a gift of Elune...), to fight against the demons in Felwood and Ashenvale. By further channeling the energy of the Scythe, the barriers of time and space weakened, and she was able to draw the worgen into the world of Azeroth."
"Worgen are large, wolf-like humanoids reminiscent of a werewolf that walks upright, but lopes on all fours to run. According to sources held by the undead, the worgen come from another dimension, and exist only to terrorize and destroy. "
It's an artifact which if activated, it seems to open trans-dimensional holes... so possibly in another dimension.. Azeroth is inhabited by other races than ours and this pulled a few through. Maybe worgen are night elf equivalents in that dimension? who knows..
Torlaz Jul 25th 2009 1:47PM
Another thought: That could be Cataclysm some degree...
The dimension in which Azeroth exists with worgen (which apparently is losing the battle badly to the legion) is on the edge of destruction and 'our world' has to save it...
I could see worgen allies for alliance/horde in that sense.. if we were assisting the fight.
The worgen in our world are corrupted now, no faction would ally with them. The alliance is so xenophobic as it is..

Thanks for choosing my screenie. I'm sure it was the fishing hat! :-)
But seriously, to all the hunters out there, give them a big "Rawr!!"

WOW finally a mention to steamwheedle cartel EU! First time I read my server's name on this website :p

Mhm, it's a shame but it had to be done. Just wish I could tame one of these myself.
