Breakfast Topic: Who do you want to see in the Expansion?
So a while back, I asked you what races and organizations you'd want to see show up in the next expansion. But while races and organizations bring a lot of flavor and purpose to an expansion, there's nothing like a good charismatic figure to really stir things up. Be it Garrosh or Varian, Bolvar or Brann Bronzebeard, the figures of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion have certainly done a lot to inform the story and drive discussion and debate in lore. With that in mind, I've been thinking of who I'd like to see take a starring role in a future expansion. Turalyon and Alleria are definitely the biggest stars I can think of who have yet to make an appearance. I'd love to see them come back through a portal from whatever world they're on, with all the drama that would bring. Does Turalyon still hold a grudge against the orcs for the death of Lothar? What will Alleria think of the Blood Elves and of what her sisters have been up to?
Of course, there's the minor characters too. Grand Admiral Jes-Tereth is probably one of my favorite storyless NPCs. I'd love to see her in action, commanding Stormwind's fleet or fighting back, say, a massive invasion of Naga. I don't know why I adore her so much. Perhaps I just like a woman in uniform. Either way, I want to see her step on stage.
By the same token, I'd actually rather like to see Lieutenant General Andorov, or Lieutenant General Burlychest, as my raid affectionately called him, make a return. A big muscular dude with no shirt and two axes wading into an unstoppable army of bug men while yelling manly things at the top of his lungs is basically what fantasy fiction is all about, and it's a shame that this guy is a one-off character. If you keep him affiliated with the Cenarion Circle, it's a perfect opportunity to have him fighting the Nightmare of the Emerald Dream, or you could make him a member of the Alliance's 7th Legion and have him at the front lines of nearly any major lore battle, with his chest glistening manfully and his axes singing.
What about you? Whether it's an old NPC who hasn't gotten much attention lately, a character from the books or d20 system that hasn't shown up in ages, who would you like to see that the spotlight in the continuing story of World of Warcraft?

More than anything, I want the Worgen to be a playable race, AND I want them on the Horde side.
As a long time Warlock player, I was happy to see us finally get a demon form (Metamorphosis FTW!) but this time, I'd kind of like to see a demon that could radically change the way we play.
Perhaps something that heals you and/or your party members as it does damage or provides a collection of buffs based on the damage you do?

I want them to be neutral at start and after some quests they could choose wich faction they would play. This way, every1 will be happy :p
Laughtrey Jul 26th 2009 8:12AM
If Worgen came into the game they would obviously be paired with Goblins. Goblins would no-doubt be Horde.

I really think u missed the point of the article. I honestly would like to see the Lady Sylvanas step it up. She was all about it in the Fjord, but I havent been able to find much more of her around. Maybe she decided to lay low after the Wrathgate debacle.

They would never make a race neutral. They've said multiple times that they want to keep it easy to see who is Horde and who is Alliance based on silhouette alone.

Yep, never, not chance, couldn't happen.
Blizzard specifically said so, which is why we'll also never things like PvE to PvP Server Transfers, Faction Changes, or... oh, wait...
Using the argument of Blizzard said never is a waste of time. They may still not do it, but that argument hold no weight at all.

Those are all out of game mechanics. There's no in-game reason to not have them. A neutral race however would have in-game ramifications. If you're Human on a PvP server and you see an Orc, you know they're an enemy even if you don't have names showing in the UI. With a Neutral race, that wouldn't be possible. Which is probably a trivial issue to most, but is a major issue in Blizzard's eyes.

I honestly don't know what to expect or what I want from the next expansion story wise. So far they have stayed pretty close to the Warcraft III continuation for their story. The Emerald Dream probably has something evil in it, an old god most likely, but that will probably show up as an instance instead of a whole expansion. Think logically, the Emerald Dream is just too big to be in the game as a whole. As it is, if we kill the Lich King that will be pretty much the last thing that was addressed in WCIII. I don't know how I would feel taking on Old gods and Azshara, when the Lich King is easily the most powerful being in existence second only to Sargeras. If Kil'Jaeden is afraid of him at least.
I just hope I'm not disappointed by something really out there.
Rakah Jul 26th 2009 11:08AM
on the matter of sargeras it seems they could fit him into just about any expansion quite easily.
"As Aegwynn surveyed the scene, she found the rift from which the Legion's agents had come through in the Storm Peaks. Using this portal, Sargeras had entered Azeroth to confront Aegwynn. The Guardian of Tirisfal did not hesitate in attacking, but Sargeras held back, letting the mage destroy his physical body. However, as it died, Sargeras’ spirit reached inside Aegwynn’s body and hid, lying dormant for many years. Unaware of the tainted presence inside her body, Aegwynn buried Sargeras’s physical body in a tomb and cast it deep into the ocean."
"Interesting enough, according to additional lore, it is said that Aegwynn may not have fought Sargeras' original body, but rather only fought an avatar of Sargeras. It is said that this avatar was infused with a portion of Sargeras' soul which he controlled. Medivh was born with this fragment of his soul, and it later escaped back to the Twisting Nether.Brann Bronzebeard is pretty confident that the real Sargeras never actually set foot on Azeroth, implying the real Sargeras is still around in the Twisting Nether.Lending this theory further credibility is in War of the Ancients, the power of the Well of Eternity was needed to create a portal strong enough for Sargeras to attempt to enter Azeroth, the creation of which took a long time to be completed. The portal used to bring the Sargeras that Aegwynn fought was powered by a handful of demons and was created in only a few minutes.
Brann also believes, along with others, that the portion of the spirit that escaped still endures, hungering for revenge."
Because of the ties to the Lich King and both expansions as a whole I could quite easily see Sargeras play a major part in a future expansion.

I almost think the worgen would be something like the Death Knights where any race could BECOME a worgen rather than start off with one as a separate race.
Jamesy Jul 26th 2009 10:30AM
Ok, I think you might have classes mixed up with races. How do you BECOME a worgen? Will there be a Night Elf version of the worgen, how about an orc?
Chivvy Jul 26th 2009 8:13AM
I'd personally like to see some more goblin lore. Whilst I don't altogether like the idea of them as a playable race, I think it would be cool to see the world of Undermine, or Kezan, and something along those lines. Come to think of it, there are a load of places from vanilla WoW that could be explored...Uldum would be a cool dungeon with more titan-related stuff, and as for Grim Batol...dragon slaying, anyone? In my opinion, Deathwing should be the final boss, but maybe we just un-corrupt him rather than kill him.
Oh, and pony mounts. Ghostcrawler promised.
henderson-94 Jul 26th 2009 2:10PM
There are so many things they could do with Undermine and perhaps they won't be a playable race, that doesn't bother me much. But just think of all the cool things you could do there :P It could be a giant money sink, and most of which is for vanity reasons.
That's of course just my opinion and I have no clue what Blizzard is intending to do. Seeing as how I'll be watching BlizzCon it should be interesting though to see what happens.

i'd like to see the high tinker gelbin mekkatorque do something. anything. he's leader of the gnomes and so far hasn't done jack sh**
Rai Jul 26th 2009 10:01AM
As someone who mostly plays gnomes, I concur.
Natsumi Jul 26th 2009 10:03AM
This!! OMG please please please do something with the Gnome King (Besides Brewfest) that makes me want to save his puntable butt when he Horde come to IF.
Oh, and while we are on the subject of unloved NPCs, how bout some Staghelm? Give us another reason to hate him (or remind us why we do).
Last but not least, lets have that Half-Orc Assassin. I will organize raids daily to kill her for what she did to the King.
$am Jul 28th 2009 3:37AM
agree too
i'm horde to death, but I agree the gnomes leader have zero roll, even Vol'jin is far more important than him (at least he is near warchief Thrall)
Hoggersbud Jul 26th 2009 12:07PM
Isn't he the guy that does the thing with the barrels at Brewfest? Surely that's a very very important task!
Sedna Jul 26th 2009 2:16PM
This!! I'm Horde-side all the way, but I'd love to see those little guys get a fair shake in lore. They could be at the forefront of underwater exploration in the Maelstrom, leading us down in gear-powered submarines. Goooooo gnomes!
