Dwarf levels solely by exploring, gains World Explorer at level 17
Here's a cute story to brighten up your Sunday. Tenen, a Dwarf Warrior in Modan Co on Moon Guard, decided that he would start at level one and only explore. No quests, no killing mobs, no PvP. Just exploration.
Seventeen levels later, he's explored every single outdoor zone in the game, and completed the World Explorer achievement. So if you wanted to know how much XP you could get just from exploring, there's your answer. It took four days of playtime to accomplish.
Of course, he couldn't do it all on his own; aside from the ravenous mobs, some areas are simply inaccessible without a flying mount. He got some summoning help from a cooperative Warlock. The Charge skill was also apparently useful in getting to some hard-to-reach places.
Congrats to Tenen! It's always nice to see players do something a little different.
[Thanks, Frijona]

Nice, this is one of the things I think a number of people try but once they finish their starting zone realise what an undertaking it really is. GRTZ for sticking to it.

Seems a level 16 has beat him to this!

When Patch 3.2 hits, we could even see Level 1s run around with that title.

You know, after reading through these comments it's amazing how many people write in with their "omg! how dare you write about Tenan doing this when XX-toon did it first!"
Grats to Tenan, and thanks for the story Eliah.

Yeah, I tried this once with a NE rogue (figured the higher travel speed while dead would be helpful in such an odyssey) and I gave up after finishing Teldrassil. Major kudos to the patience of anyone able to pull this off.

Makes me proud to be a Dwarf Warrior

Me too! And I gotta say I'm VERY glad the first person was a dwarf just for the lore reasons!

I've been wondering about this, as in how far you'd ding doing this. Grats to the dwarf!

And... now what? The cool thing is to be the level 17 world Explorer, so he can't really continue to level -- I guess what we have here is the most work ever put into a bank alt.
Ummm.... woo hoo.

What you're saying doesn't follow at all. The cool thing was setting the record. He can do whatever he wants now. Sure he might not get the same awed response with that title at later levels, but he's part of WoW history now. Grats Tenen!

I know I thought vaguely about it when the achivment system first came out but after spending three hours getting the outland one of my main (60% flier ftl) and realised exactly HOW much time and effort I'd have to put in I just skipped that idea......

Female Dwarf Hunter named Dora with a gorilla called Boots/coyote named Swipe..
Or I'm not impressed.

Great comment.

Total Deaths: 1809
Total Deaths in 5-Player Dungeons: 1231
So, best guess, deaths from exploring, approximately: 578
(still doesn't explain the 1231 deaths in dungeons though, his next project?)
dlar3 Jul 26th 2009 8:13PM
Don't always believe the numbers on the achievements. My DK shows 12 deaths in dungeons and has never been in a dungeon. There are probably locations that if you die, register as being in a dungeon.
zappo Jul 27th 2009 9:14AM
Yeah, no point in doing this and ending up in dungeons. He might have been sent to the dungeon graveyard and been counted as a dungeon death I would guess.
And I'm not sure if many people appreciate how hard this is in the first place. I ran through wetlands as a level 1 and things would seriously agro from a range where I couldn't even see them. I can't see why you would take on something of that level of difficulty then monkey with instances as well. Especially since most of them were way past the minimum required level.
Must have been interesting to be in hellfire and see a level 8 or so dwarf run by.

Grats Tenen.. Now that IS a real achievement.. Well earned and deserved Kudos!

I'm not impressed. The last time a dwarf went exploring he awakened an Old God. Twice.
